Hi everyone and welcome. Over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge blog we are already half way through the latest challenge, 'B Happy'. This is what our host for this challenge, Cec Wintonyk, is looking for: "Create a shabby chic or vintage project that makes you happy and features birds, bees and/or butterflies. You must use at least one of these things with wings and it must have a place of prominence on your creation but if you wish to use two or more, please feel free to do that." As ever, the Design Team will choose their top four picks, with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive Top 3 badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. For this challenge theme I choose to make a card incorporating one of the reverse embossed backgrounds created as part of my recent Saturday Showcase over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge blog. For the background I used a piece of Tim Holtz 'Memoranda' Paper Stash, brayering White Acrylic Paint over before dipping it into a mix of Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and water. As well as adding Remnants Design Tape and machine stitching, I applied Texture Paste through the 'Stitched' Layering Stencil (which has become a firm favourite). You'll see I added the de-bossed piece from my Saturday Showcase tutorials in the centre of the card. Like many of you I was 'persuaded' to get Tim Holtz 'Flower Jar' stamps and matching die set by Zoe Hillman's Saturday Showcase (SO glad I did!) and have used some of the flowers in one of the jars. All were 'painted' with Distress Inks whilst the jar was clear embossed, much like the essential butterflies (remembering the theme, "B" Happy) which came from the Tiny Things 2 stamp set. Finally I added words from the Theories stamp set. Here some close up photos so you can see the detail more clearly; That's it for my embossed butterfly card for the current Frilly and Funkie challenge. My talented team mates have also created lots of amazing projects for this challenge so make sure you hop on over and check them out HERE. And remember to link up your own shabby chic or vintage projects to be in with a chance of winning one of the fabulous prizes. Take care of yourselves and get creative! If you are here right now I'm sure it is because you are excited about the new Stamps and Stencils from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous. Hooray for new stamps and stencils! I love that Tim mixes inspiration from the makers with inspiration from his demos all in one live. So good. I will be posting tutorials for my cards from the live this week. These two cards above are the same basic technique, just different colors. As Tim pointed out in the live, I was on an Iron-ff faux batik kick....ok, who am I fooling....it is hand's down my favorite stamping technique of all time. I didn't realize it went all the way back to the Carol Duvall days though. I love me some Carol Duvall and even went to a taping decades ago. I learned this technique from Jennifer McGuire 2-3 years ago and have been obsessed with it ever since. 😂 Several people asked for tutorials on the Iron-off technique, and I would say that Jennifer McGuire is the queen of tutorials. I will make this one as a video to show how I did the whole thing, including the iron-off. Until then, this card uses watercolor stamping and faux batik iron-off. I posted a tutorial on this earlier last week, so if you want to check it out here: You will see how I did it. Also, check out some of my first Iron-off cards here and here for the technique. I also already posted the tutorial for making these decorative pots for my fake plants using the new stencils. You can see it here. Stay tuned this week for more inspiration! I'll be posting tutorials for the cards above and some all new things I haven't shared yet. Thanks you so much for stopping by. I truly appreciate your support! Have a crafty day! Tami I am an affiliate with Simon Says Stamp and Scrapbook.com so the links below send you to one of those stores depending on which logo you choose. If you wish to purchase something from either store and use one of my links below, I get a small percentage of your order, at no additional cost to you. This helps me to defray the costs of this blog, the time, the ideas and tutorials I post here. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Happy Friday to you all! For today's Friday Focus, my product of choice is Sizzix Diffusers by Tim Holtz. This is my first attempt at these clever little plates, which are used in place of one cutting pad, as each piece in the set has the same thickness as a cutting pad. I love these and if you don't have the set, really you need them! As I was working on one project, I wandered off to another and still had more ideas, but ran out of time. Along with the Diffusers, Linda is putting all of the Texture Fades embossing folders on sale for an additional 15% off (her already discounted price for Ranger products), so now is the time to stock up on what you don't have! Here we go! Just sandwich the embossing the folder as you always do, replacing one pad with the diffuser. First I opened up the package and laid it down to take a look and work up an idea or two. Remember, I never have a plan! Then I looked and thought that the opening surely makes a great masking template. You can use also use the cutouts to emboss and I will give you a quick look at that further down. I looked at my stamps and decided to go with Tim's men and the newer Riveted Metal Texture Fade. I used a makeup pad to apply Antique Linen to the center and then stamped the men in Archival Coffee. Once head set, I placed the oval cut out over the gentlemen and then inked the outer edge with Frayed Burlap and now the fun begins! The inked and stamped card stock was placed in the folder and then I added the diffuser over the top. I use tape often to avoid slippage! Opened Tab 2 on the Multipurpose Platform, laid this diffuser down with the embossing folder and cutting pad on top and and it through. Remember the diffusers are used in place of the second cutting pad. I inked additional color on the embossed area and then added clear embossing powder. Made a little frame and finished it off with some mini gears and pen nibs. For this tag, I diffused an area and then stamped the butterflies with Archival Sepia as well as the background. The raised areas were highlighted with Tattered Rose. The Halloween tag was embossed just in the center using the little circle, as all I wanted was just one good size spider web to house my spider that was cut from black chipboard and embossed! The tag was inked with Rusty Hinge to tone down the orange. Fun stuff, so pick up some of those diffusers and if you have not used them, give it a try! Hope you enjoyed this week's Friday Focus and have a wonderful weekend! Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing another project that I created for Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 Facebook live. Here's a link to his blog post which features the facebook video and also a link to all the amazing designers. For this project, I decided to create something with bold colours, instead of my usual vintage and distressed look. I'm going to show you how I created this background with Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks. My Sizzix Chapter 3 dies that I used are Bat Crazy and Ghost Town: Also a Tim Holtz Cobweb Thinlits die (662375) which unfortunately has been retired. There is still a corner cobweb die in the Mixed Media Halloween Thinlits set (661588) which is still available to purchase. I created my background with Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink , 8x10 Yupo Paper(non-porous synthetic paper) from Ranger Ink(tac63346), Alcohol Blending Solution (TIM9800), and various alcohol ink colours in the purple, yellow, and orange colours, plus Pitch Black. To create the background, start with your lightest colours first (yellows). I knew I wanted the yellows near the bottom of my tray, behind the houses. I added a few dots of the lightest yellow ink to my alcohol ink applicator and tapped this onto my Yupo paper. Building on that, add in some dots of alcohol blending solution, then some darker yellow. You are going to work into oranges and then the purple tones, and finally adding black to the purples near the top. The colours applied on top will eliminate the bottom colour, instead of blending together and creating muddy colours. I liked the marbled look, so I didn't use a lot of blending solution and I tapped lightly. If you find that you have too much blending solution or ink on your applicator, just tap some off onto a piece of paper towel. Just experiment and have fun! If you would like more info or inspiration, Ranger Ink has some great Alcohol Ink Videos here. My Ghost Town was die cut from Tim's Matte Black Alcohol Ink Cardstock(TAC65487). Love this cardstock, it's a rich, velvety, matte, intense black. How's that for descriptive adjectives! lol! I also used solid pieces of yellow/orange coloured Yupo cardstock behind my houses. These were hand-cut slightly smaller than the black silhouettes, then pop-dotted behind. This way I could overlap them, the middle one built up higher, and the houses and background behind didn't show through the windows. The tree is also in this set. I die-cut a bunch of them in plain black cardstock, crumpled them and adhered to the inside bottom of my tray. A Halloween Quote Chip was added on the bottom. My bats were die-cut from Tim Holtz Metallic Jewels Kraft Stock(th93781), then Black/purple Alcohol ink lightly tapped on top. Love all the different sizes and shapes in this set of bats! Some were adhered to my die-cut cobweb in the corner. The Vignette Tray was painted black, but I also used Woodgrain cardstock on the outer sides. This was Sprayed with Black Soot Distress Spray Stain, then highlighted with purples. I don't like leaving the back of a project unfinished, is that weird? Even if you don't see it, I think it's kind of cool that there's another designed part of your project hidden from view. I took a purple piece of Metallic Kraft stock, cut out three bats. The piece was sanded, quite deep in some places and adhered to the back of my tray. I replaced the bat cutouts with a different colour of Metallic cardstock and sanded my back again. I applied Distress Ink(I think I used Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo,... I think) on top. Hope this inspires you to get out those Alcohol Inks and create some fabulous Halloween backgrounds for these new Halloween dies! I have more projects to share for Tim Holtz Chapter 3 Sizzix, hope you visit again! Until next time, Jan
