Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the Fair Winds Collection by Dawn Woleslagle. This is such a fun coastal and nautical collection, perfect for summertime cards of all occasions. I wanted to create my cards with a non-traditional color palette and I was inspired by the colors from the Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad. Each card features the patterned paper in a different way — the border, a small selection of die cuts, and a centerpiece background. This first card features the Uncharted Waters Stencil, Guiding Light Dies, Set Sail Dies, and the Fair Winds Sentiments. I love those crashing waves and the layered rocks but the highlight is really the lighthouse! I cut the lighthouse from Barely Peach (main structure), Light Teal (stripes) and Dark Teal (top and window) from the Meadow Collection Cardstock Pack, Mirror Silver (railing), and Mango cardstock (lightbulb). It was so much fun to build this lighthouse in my choice of colors and the possibilities are endless. To create the sky, I used three layers of the Uncharted Waters Stencil with pink, orange and yellow inks and blending brushes. I just love the way these colours swirl around in the background, complementing the teals and grays. I finished by creating a frame using the Mirrored Arch Labels in Graphite cardstock with a touch of Mirror Silver cardstock at the bottom. I made this second card with a pale background as a contrast to the first design. This card features the Set Sail Dies and Fair Winds Sentiments. I cut the background from Barely Peach cardstock and dry embossed it with a retired Sun Burst Stencil but you can use the Sun Rays Embossing Folder as an alternative for a similar effect. I cut the crashing waves from Dark Teal cardstock, and the sailboat from Graphite, Light Teal, Mirror Silver and Watermelon Pink from the Meadow Collection Cardstock Pack. The sails were cut from a floral piece of Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad and the cute sun was die cut from one of the pages. Both elements add so much whimsy to this scene! I really love the selection of sentiments included in the Fair Winds Sentiments set because they cover so many occasions from Father’s Day and thank you to birthdays, encouragement cards and so much more. This third card featuring Oh, Buoy! and the Fair Winds Sentiments is definitely my favorite because — seagulls! I started by die-cutting all of the layers for the seagulls using Snowdrift, Fog, Graphite, Onyx and Mango cardstock. I wanted to make so many of them because it was so fun to assemble them. I literally can’t wait to make more! Haha I die cut the breakwater pillars from Dark Teal cardstock and the ropes from Light Teal cardstock. I just love those tiny ropes which even have fiber details on them! The buoys and life ring were cut from Barely Peach, Watermelon Pink and Persimmon cardstock. I extended the middle pillar by stacking two on top, then using the bottom end of the die to crop it off nicely. I used the Precision Layering A2 A Dies to cut all of the base panels on all three cards, as well as to cut this piece of striped patterned paper from the Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad. The bottom section was a bright yellow that didn’t coordinate so I cut an additional piece of pink woodgrain to match and glued that on top. To finish, I stamped the sentiment in the center of the white palm tree. I hope you find inspiration from this trio of cards featuring all of these products from the Fair Winds Collection by Dawn Woleslagle! I can think of so many things you can do with this stamp set, but I really want to make a window card. Before I started building my scene, I needed to lightly trace the lines both on the inside and the outside of my card base. This way I could make sure that everything would line up on the finished card. After I had trimmed the front of the card base for the window, I could start building my scene on the inside. I masked off the edges on the inside to reduce how much space my scene would take up. I talk about this more in the VIDEO. The kit came with SOFT SKY, SUMMER SKY and DEEP OCEAN so I decide to use those for my ocean. If you don't have this stamp set folks, you use the Hero Arts WAVES Background Stamp. You would start by masking off a section where you would want your waves to go, ink blend SOFT SKY Ink over that entire area, the use the stamp to stamp, SUMMER SKY, shift the stamp, then stamp with DEEP OCEAN. I can't get to all of my inks right now, so I used Distress Oxide Inks in SPICED MARMALADE, WILD HONEY and SQUEEZED LEMONADE, but you could also use Hero Arts CRIMSON Bold Hybrid Ink with ORANGE SODA and BUTTER BAR Shadow Inks. Be sure to check out the VIDEO folks, I talk more about how I did this sky and the clouds. For those, I used Hero Arts UNICORN Pigment Ink and SOFT GRANITE Ink. I couldn't resist using the Sand Embossing Powder. Embossing Powders aren't something I use too often, but this stuff was groovy. I talk more about this in the VIDEO. By the way, I mention that before it's heat set that it has a matte finish, but I think I forgot to mention that once it's heat set it's kind of shiny and metallic. I dig it. If you are an ocean lover, this kit is for you. Who am I kidding? If you are a card maker, this kit is for you! So many gorgeous stamps, sentiments and the add-ons? Adorable! I have to cards to share with you today. This first card is a clean and simple card using the main kit stamp set.... To create this card, I stamped the ocean scene along the bottom of a 4" card panel. When I stamped the darkest part of the horizon, I cut the panel at that point. On the card base, I stamped one layer of a 2 layer cloud image and the little sail boat. I added the ocean scene to the card with fun foam so it would be popped up. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark on a little banner and then heat embossed it. I did a tiny bit of stitching and then added that to the card with foam tape. I have been on a couple cruises and stamping this amazing ocean scene made me think of being on a ship and looking out on to the horizon. I do love the ocean! This next card was super fun to make! Of course, for me, clean and simple and anything rainbow is the way to go! I heat embossed the background stamp called Beachy Bold Prints. And then of course, next I did some ink blending to add the rainbow of colors. I cut the panel down and coordinated it with a white panel, adding fun foam to both panels. I laid them out and stamped the sentiment in the center with my Misti so it was nice and straight. Then I added both panels to the card front. I love the clean and simple and the rainbow! Happy first full day of summer my friends!! It's going to be a gorgeous day here in Southwestern Montana!!! I think we are going to take time out this afternoon to go on a hike and take advantage of the nice weather!! There's nothing better than getting out and enjoying the amazing landscape here in the Gallatin Valley. We are truly blessed here indeed!! Only two more days until Farmer's Market and I've been working like a crazy woman trying to replenish my stock after last week's opening day!!! What a wonderful day it was and I'm forever grateful to those of you who have purchased my cards, cookbooks, and journals!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I will have several new items in this week's market and they will include a few cards made with Papertrey Ink's Flipping Out Stamps and Dies. I am loving all the possibilities with these sweet new stamps. One of my favorite's in the set is the sentiment, "Life is Better in Flip Flops"! I so agree, although I would be wearing my birkenstock's rather than flip flops. But, that is what summer is all about - rest, relaxation and reveling in the sunshine!! I used some October Afternoon Sidewalks papers in these cards along with Flipping Out and On the Farm stamps. Don't you just love the detail on the flip flops! I cut the flower tops out of cream felt and added some Copic Colored rhinestones. I just love that you can change the colors of jewels with Copics!!! This card is a little bright and crazy, but all the color totally reminds me of a bright summer day!! Hello my crafty friends, are you itching to start some summertime crafting? I love pulling out my nautical themed stamps and dies this time of year. The school year is winding down, and summer is on our minds. (Plus, in Florida springtime is a disappointingly short season!) Nautical cards are great for summer, but in Florida they're appropriate all year long - and often they make great masculine cards for the gentlemen in my life who can be hard to craft for! Let's take a look at a few cards I've made recently featuring nautical stamps and dies from Spellbinders and FSJ. (This post contains affiliate links. This first card has a layered, sketchy feel to it and I gave it to my father in law for his birthday. Appropriately, this stamp set from FSJ is called Nautical Sketch. To begin this card I loosely stamped the Grid Paper background stamp onto my white card base. Next, I stamped the compass image onto a panel of Oatmeal Cookie cardstock, and die cut a rectangle from the center of it - this made the "frame", which I adhered to the card with foam squares. Then I stamped, colored and trimmed the ship and sentiment and adhered it to the card, along with some twine, and torn blue cardstock. A splattering of Silk finished it off. The next card has a trendier and more of a clean and simple feel to it, and it features the Spellbinders Die D-Lites Out to Sea Die Set. How fun is that sentiment from the Anchor Me stamp set? (hee hee! love it!) This card is mainly diecutting except for the fun sentiment. For the waves in the background, I trimmed along the wave line on the patterned paper to add some movement to the card. I love the way the rolling waves are slanted. Just a fun detail! The Die D-Lites sets from Spellbinders are so much fun to play with and to make little scenes with. Hey all! Today marks my second post as a Hand Stamped Sentiments designer! Challenge #220 is a cool color comb. I always think sunset and water when I see these colors together, so that's the direction I went! I searched Pinterest for some beach wood images and came across a picture with different colored, weathered planks, so that's what I tried to re-create here with the background. After looking at it a little closer, I wish I'd have added at least one more pool party plank to even it out a bit, but oh well! The Hearth and Home die has endless possibilities. You could put just about any scene behind it that you want! I've seen some great samples floating around out there in blogland! For embellishments I took a few strands from the burlap ribbon and tied them together in a knot. The Starfish are from my {Sea Street} set and the "happy birthday" senitment is from {Cottage Greetings}. It's probably my new favorite birthday stamp....I just love the font. Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I’m excited to be featured on the Stampin' Up!® Corporate Blog sharing cards I've created using the Come Sail Away Suite(#152175). I love the whole nautical theme, it’s very fresh and clean, and totally my favourite crafting style! This Suite makes creating those perfectly co-ordinated masculine projects from cards to memory-keeping pages fun and easy! The laser-cut specialty card with the rope design from the Come Sail Away Memories & More Card Pack (#149552) created the perfect background for my Note Cards (#131527). I lay the laser-cut card on my piece of Whisper White Cardstock (#106549), which I had die cut using the Stitched Rectangles (#148551) and smothered it with Embossing Paste (#141979). To create a bolder background, I added a few drops of Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Ink (#103033) to the Embossing Paste and again used the laser-cut card as a mask. I used the remaining paste on two more pieces of card to achieve lighter variations. All the images are from the Sailing Home Stamp Set (#149457) and have been die cut with the Smooth Sailing Dies (#149576). The lighthouse has been embossed using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (#109132) on Vellum Cardstock (#106584) and layered up on stickers from the Come Sail Away Memories & More Card Pack, Silver Metallic Thread (#138402), and Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#144220) coloured with the Dark Night of Navy Blends (#144039). Stampin’ Blends colour these embellishments to co-ordinate perfectly with your projects. Use the light or dark Blend depending on the depth of colour you wish to achieve. The anchor has been embossed using Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder (#109131) on Silver Foil Sheets (#132178) and threaded with Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine (#149483) and layered up with some seaweed die cut in Night of Navy Cardstock (#106577), stickers from the Come Sail Away Memories & More Card Pack, Silver Metallic Thread, and Rhinestone Basic Jewels coloured with the Dark Night of Navy Blend. The yacht has been stamped in Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Ink on Vellum Cardstock and then heat embossed with Clear Emboss Powder (#109130). You can do this with any of the Classic Stampin’ Pads and Clear Emboss Powder to create coloured embossing. You need to work quickly to avoid the ink drying before you’ve added the Emboss Powder. It is also layered up with the seaweed and ship’s wheel die cut in Whisper White Cardstock, Silver Metallic Thread, and Rhinestone Basic Jewels. The lighthouse has also been stamped in Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Ink on Vellum Cardstock and then heat embossed with Clear Emboss Powder. It is layered up with the ship’s wheel die cut in Night of Navy Cardstock, Silver Metallic Thread, and Rhinestone Basic Jewels. The sentiments, Thanks and Congrats are from the Sailing Home Stamp Set (#149457) and have been die cut using the co-ordinating banner die from the Smooth Sailing Dies (#149576) with the left-hand side of the banner trimmed to tuck under the stamped images. Hi Stampers! Every year about this time I hear the ocean calling! While a trip to the seashore is not in “the cards” this year, ocean themes can be featured in “my cards.” 😁 Today I have four cards with ocean themes to share. The cards are no layer cards. I used masks to allow me to apply ink for the focal point. Along with the masks I used blending brushes to create the background for the focal point. Here are the cards: And here are my masks! For three of the masks I used 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” (1/4 sheets) pieces of printer paper. I used dies to cut out the desired shapes. For the fourth mask I just tore pieces of scrap grid paper, and placed them over my cardstock. As you can see I used Washi tape to hold the masks in place. Here are the stamp sets I used; WHALE DONE, SEASCAPE,TIMELESS TROPICAL, and FRIENDS ARE LIKE SEASHELLS. For each card I used a Basic White card base that measured 11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2”. To create the focal points I put the cardstock flat on my stamping surface (a grid paper pad in my case), positioned the mask over the card front, and taped the mask in place with the Washi tape. I also covered up the back half of the card base with scrap paper to make sure there were no ink accidents. Next I stamped and inked the focal point, removed the mask, and stamped the greeting. SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD: Basic White card base, Layering Circles Dies (largest one) for mask, TIMELESS TROPICAL stamp set, TIMELESS TULIPS stamp set (for greeting), Shaded Spruce and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write markers, Sahara Sand, Pool Party, Balmy Blue, and Shaded Spruce inks, blending brushes. ASSEMBLY: Place the mask over the card base. Begin adding color to the area with Sahara Sand ink on a blending brush, next add Pool Party ink, and finish with the Balmy Blue. Using the Stampin’ Write Markers, add color to the stamp. Stamp the palm trees image. Remove the mask. Stamp the greeting with the Shaded Spruce ink. This card is very similar to a card I created for another post (8 April 2021). This masking technique results in a torn paper look (Faux Torn Paper Masking Technique). See page 26 of the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ 2021-2022 ANNUAL CATALOG for another example of the technique. SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD: Basic White card base, two pieces of torn grid paper and Washi tape for masking, WHALE DONE stamp set, HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set (Mini Catalog - retiring) for the sentiment, Soft Succulent, Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Balmy Blue inks, blending brushes. ASSEMBLY: Position the masks over the card front, and secure with Washi tape. Stamp the seaweed, stamp the remaining images, using the blending brushes and Pool Party and Balmy Blue inks cover the exposed cardstock. It is okay to go right over the stamped images with the blending brush. remove the masks and stamp the greeting with Soft Succulent ink. SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD: Basic White card base, SEASCAPE stamp set, WHALE DONE stamp set, Layering Diorama Dies (3rd largest) - for mask, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Pool Party, and Balmy Blue inks, and blending brushes. ASSEMBLY: Create the mask and position it over the card front, secure with Washi tape. Stamp the seaweed and the fish. Create the water by starting at the bottom of the piece with a bit of Crumb Cake ink on a blending brush. Next add Pool Party and Balmy Blue inks. Remove the mask. Stamp the greeting with Soft Suede ink. This card is just a bit different from the other three. It is still a one layer card, but I added some die cut images. SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD: Basic White card base, Pearlescent Specialty Paper, FRIENDS ARE LIKE SEASHELLS stamp set, HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set (Mini Catalog - retiring) for sentiment, Seashells Embossing Folder, Seaside Seashells Dies, Flirty Flamingo, Calypso Coffee, Pale Papaya, Sahara Sand, Gray Granite, Pool Party, and Balmy Blue inks, and Granny Apple Green (dark)and Mint Macaron (dark) Stampi ‘ Blends, Stitched Rectangles Dies (3rd largest). ASSEMBLY: Make your mask with the Stitched Rectangles die. Use a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” piece of the Pearlescent paper and the Seaside Seashells die to cut out the images. Stamp the images. Place the piece in the Seashells embossing folder and run it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Snip the images you want for the card from the die cut. Color the sea plants with the Stampin’ Blends and set the die cuts aside. Position the mask over the cardstock. Secure in place with Washi tape. Use the Sahara Sand and a touch of Gray Granite inks and blending brushes to create the base for the sand. Use the Pool Party and the Balmy Blue inks to create some water. With Sahara Sand ink and “sand” stamp add some texture to the “sandy area” of the card. Remove the mask. Arrange and adhere the sea plants and seashells on the card front. Stamp the greeting with Sahara Sand ink. These card were easy to make, and best of all went together quickly. I do enjoy making no layer cards. These types of cards help me to reach a little bit beyond my usual routine, and forces mr to come up with creative ways to create interesting, but simple cards. I hope you give the masking techniques to create some no layer cards. * The printer paper and grid paper are interchangeable, actually any thinner paper will do.
