Cute handmade matchbox-cards for all occasions – great alternative to traditional greeting cards! You can even send these lovely message boxes directly. More in
Father's Day is right around the corner! And surprise, surprise... Chuck and I have yet to make hubby a gift or a card. (I've been pretty sick lately, so I've totally been off the ball with crafts. Ack.) Last year we made these super cute Father's Day Cards. This year... well... it might just be a chocolate bar and a doodle. (Sorry hubby!) But I still have a cute Father's Day card to share. This super-secret spy card would be great for older kids to make for dad. Kids create their own ciphers and codes. Then, dad decodes the message on Father's Day. Neat, right? You even turn the dials to find out the code. So. Cool! You can find a video for this Super Secret Father's Day Message Card on PBS today! (And if you need more tips on how to make the cipher work, check out my comments down in the comment section!) Let's keep in Contact! You can always find fun ideas on my Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter accounts! (Or subscribe to my email mailing list by filling out the pink bar at the top of your screen.) Happy making, friends!

Stamp sets: Picture Perfect, Balloon Celebration & Hardwood Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Basic Black & Whisper White Ink: Soft Suede, Black Memento, Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Blushing Bride, Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Cucumber Crush & Bermuda Bay Scroll down to bottom for more colours options & measurements. It works like a gate fold card at the front opening, then tucks into an embellishment on dimensionals. (At least this is what works for me, you could also use a belt or ribbon to secure the card closed) When the card is open it reveals a message on the inside. Then when you bring the two mountains together (by folding the middle in half backward)... You can open the centre the other way to reveal the hidden message. This card is really cool. Everyone in the class was very impressed by how fun this card was to play with, yet how easy it was to make. This next card was made the same way, but with different sizing. I just played around with measurements, so I think it could be made to suit individual needs. Stamp Sets: Picture Perfect, Kinda Eclectic & Endless Birthday Wishes Cardstock: Soft Sky & Whisper White Ink: Soft Sky, Mint Macaron, Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Emerald Envy, Tangerine Tango, Rich Razzleberry & Wisteria Wonder For more colours scroll down the page. Stamp sets: Picture Perfect, Balloon Celebration Endless Birthday Wishes & Hardwood Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Basic Black & Whisper White Ink: Soft Suede, Black Memento, Pool Party, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Blushing Bride, Peekaboo Peach, daffodil Delight, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Elegant Eggplant, Night of Navy, Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Cucumber Crush & Bermuda Bay (It was a little while ago that I made these cards so it's tricky to remember exactly what colours I used, especially when there was sooo many) Scroll down to bottom for more colours options I've found Thick White Cardstock is the most suitable for weaving through the middle section. Though it can't hurt to experiment... Stamp sets: Picture Perfect, Kinda Eclectic & Birthday Blooms Cardstock: Sweet Sugarplum, Elegant Eggplant & Whisper White Ink: Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder & Sahara Sand Scroll down to bottom for more colours options Stamp Set: Swirly Bird & Endless Birthday Wishes Cardstock: Peekaboo Peach, Crumb Cake, Basic Black & Very Vanilla Ink: Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive & Black Extras: Linen Thread I had done a different version of this card for the class. It was Black, white & Gray using the motor bike from born to ride. I can't seem to find the card to take photo, I think Ive given it away... Here are all (...well most) of the colours I used for stamping the birds, flowers and sponging some backgrounds. If I hadn't taken these photo during the process, I'd never remember all the colours I used. I do get a bit carried away with colour sometimes... The background on the left is coloured with the rubber brayer while the background on the right is coloured with sponges. Step 1 Step 2 Sometimes I would just add a bit of colour using a dauber or a sponge. Step 3 Step 4 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 oops... I've accidentally deleted a photo that was here... : / Probably adding Sweet Sugarplum & Rich Razzleberry to the throat. Step 4 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 1 Step 2 & 3 Step 4 Experimenting with colour can be fun. I find it easier to start with the darkest colour when triple stamping with photopolymer, then you can see through the lighter colour ink on the stamp and can line up more easily with the darker ink that's already been stamped. Stamp Set: One Wild Ride Cardstock: Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Basic Black, Whisper White & Thick White Ink: Black Memento, Basic Gray & Smoky Slate Tools: Best Badge

But that won't last much longer because Vietnamese shop shop3xu is reinventing the greeting card by turning little matchboxes into cute greetings with a surprise inside.

All the excitement of an exploding card is in the folded insert. When the card is opened, the insert unfolds to a larger size than the card revealing the message or image inside. They are great for large events where lots of people want to sign the card. 1. Start with a large, square piece of heavy paper. To determine the size, decide on how big you want your finished card to be and then double it. For example, I wanted a 51/2" x 51/2" card, so my paper measures 11" x 11". If you want a 4" x 4" card then you will need an 8" x 8" piece of paper, if you want a 6" x 6" card then you will need a 12" x 12" piece of paper, and so on. 2. Stamp your sentiment and any decorative elements you want. I need plenty of room for people to write messages in my card so I only printed a Happy Birthday greeting in the centre. 3. Time to start folding! Begin by bringing the bottom right hand corner up to the top left hand corner, creating a diagonal fold. 4. Open it out again then bring the bottom left hand corner up to the top right hand corner creating another diagonal fold. Press firmly with your bone folder. 5. You'll now have two diagonal valley folds on your insert. 6. Turn your insert over so the words are face down on your desk. Fold it horizontally by bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge as shown below. Open it out once again. 7. Now take the two side edges and press them toward each other. Your insert will fold along the lines you created to form a triangle shape. 8. Fold the points of the triangle to the centre of the insert, as shown in the photos below. Use the previous folds as measuring guides. 9. Fold the other point in the same manner, then flip the insert over and do it again on the other side. 10. Open your insert to reveal all the fold lines you created. 11. Pinch each corner and fold toward the centre creating a mountain fold. 12. Now fold the insert. The paper should bend along all the creases you made. 13. Now we're ready to adhere it inside the card blank. Apply some double sided tape to both sides of the insert as shown in the photos below. 14. Measure and mark the centre point on the inside of your card. 15. Adhere the insert into your card, lining the point up with the centre mark and keeping the edges of the insert flush with the edges of the card. 16. Adhere the other side by removing the tape and closing the card. 17. Decorate the front of your card, double checking that the orientation of the insert is correct... you don't want it to be upside down!

This 'cool' all about me cell phone art and writing activity is ideal for the first week back to school. Kids love cell phones and technology and respond enthusiastically to this creative activity. Teachers can learn more about new students in a fun way, and students can share about themselves with their peers. Construct a fold-out booklet-style 'art-phone', and respond to image-making prompts on the front cover and the written elements inside. Ideal for use as a back-to-school icebreaker and community-building activity. Please click the Preview Button above to learn more. 1. The front cover of the cell phone activity: Invite students to respond to and illustrate the 9 questions or prompts, with thumbnail doodles or drawings: • Age • My family • Best food • Favorite animal • Favorite color • Best subject • Dream destination • I love... • I don't like.... 2. The fold-out inside pages: ’Let's Chat', is designed in a text message style, and asks more investigative questions: • How will you achieve your goals? • What support do you need? • What do you like most about school? • What do you like least about school? ’More About Me’, prompts the following: • My top 3 goals • 5 fascinating facts about me • People like me because • Open-ended questions to complete, I aim to… I wonder if…I imagine that…. I feel…. Please note this activity includes 2 sizes of art-phone templates to choose from: 1. smartphone size 3.7x7.3 inches 2. tablet size 5 x 10 inches Students can also opt to do the one-dimensional cover or the full fold-out option with written responses, depending on time available, age and ability Templates with UK/CAN/NZ/AUS spellings for 'favourite and colour" templates are also included in the pack What materials are needed? • Use card stock for best results - the phones will be more robust! • Scissors and glue stick • Pens/pencils/colored markers for the artwork and written work • These templates are designed to print on US letter/A4 size paper Considerations and how to use this activity: • Encourage students to move beyond words, and 'draw their answers' • Consider the space around the images they draw • How do the 9 images look collectively? • Is there an emerging theme or style or color? • What colors do we associate with words? eg carrot: orange and green • How do students feel about the first week back to school? • It’s OK to express dislikes as well as likes, our fears along with our hopes The completed phones slip comfortably into a back pocket for play. Peg them up collectively as a classroom banner or decorate a wall, door, or your bulletin board Further activities included in the packet: 1. All About Usbanner 2.
