Hi and welcome! Today's post features the newest sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches team where our hostess this week is the talented Kim Singdahlsen. I've mentioned before that angled panels on cards make my eye twitch, so you can imagine how I felt when I saw three of them! I actually spent several days pondering how I was going to pull this off and in the end I decided to mimic the lines of the angles with a die. So I used this circle die to cut three lines in a white panel and once that was done, I adhered it to a Gravel Gray card base. I then die-cut the Caprice Heart dies from Grout Gray, Cement Gray and Gravel Gray cardstocks and layered them up. The sentiment was cut down from a longer one and stamped in black ink on the same angle as the circles. I positioned the heart so the centre opening was right over one of the circle cutouts. And that's my card! Simple and angled 😄 Thanks for visiting! The DT have some gorgeous cards - in fact when I added my card to the DT blog, I saw that Lee Ann and I had very similar ideas! Hi friends! It's Monday and time for a brand new Mojo Monday sketch! I hope you can find a little time in the next couple weeks to play along with me! I'm an equal opportunity stamper, so feel free to use any papercrafting products your heart desires and enter as many creations as you like. Sometimes I create sketches from my past cards, and other times I literally sketch the layout on paper, then create the card. More recently, I've been gravitating to ink blending or mixed media backgrounds and I don't use as many layers as I used to, making new sketches a little harder for my brain to crank out. So yesterday morning I sat down and sketched out this quick layout and I had so much fun picking out papers and elements to fit it. It just goes to show how mixing things up every now and then in your crafting process can really boost your creativity. For this card, I pulled out the gorgeous Forest Tea Party collection and cut my panels, inking the edges and matting with stone ink and cardstock. The background is from the Wood Creative Pad and I stamped the Typewriter Text Background over it in stone ink. This background is part of the Overstock Sale at Sweet 'n Sassy this month, and it's one of my favorites! After building up my layers, I decided I wanted to use a flower in place of the circle, so I pulled out the Precious Poppies set and colored and fussy cut the flower, adding some Nuvo glitter drops to the center, then bunching up some twine to tuck under. The sentiment is from the Sentimental Wordfetti set. This set is simply perfect for so many occasions. Alrighty, now it's your turn! I hope you've been inspired to create something with this sketch . Need a guide for card sizes? Me too. Most of the cards I make are A2. But, I have a stash of envelopes that are for various card sizes. So, here's a chart that I created with the measurements for the most commonly used card sizes. These sketches came to be when I picked up the Echo Park Magic & Wonder pad at Tuesday Morning. I needed to make some masculine birthday cards, so I decided to challenge myself to use up as much of the paper I cut into as possible. This was the result. You can download a printable Two Sheet 6 x 6-ish Wonder PDF here. I say 6 x 6-ish, because the dimensions I used included the extra portion of the paper pad that has the hang hole on it, making it 6 x 6.5". I know both Echo Park and Carta Bella papers are these dimensions without perforation. You could use a regular 6 x 6 sheet, but would need to change the dimensions to 0.75" x 4" for strip D and 3 x 2" for panel C. I started by choosing two sheets of double sided paper from the paper pad. You want patterns that are multi directional, since they'll be going different directions. I cut both sheets at once, first cutting at 4" on the side with the hole, then cutting the 4" panel to 5.25" to make my background panels. I had a few frayed edges on the resulting piece, so I cut it down to 1.125". Next I cut the other strip at three inches, giving me a 2 x 3.5" piece and a 2 x 3" piece. I arranged the panels how I thought they looked best, hiding any portions that had the hole from the paper on them, then cut thin black mats for everything. My stamping was done with the gorgeous Scene Silhouettes: Woodland set and the Sentimental Mash-up sets from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. I love how easily these stamped panels came together, and these images are perfect for masculine cards! Alrighty, now it's your turn! I hope you enjoy these sketches! You're the Best, really! I have been playing with the Friendly Wishes stamp set with the very fun EveryDay Chic DSP. After I made a few cards on my own, I decided to find a sketch challenge to follow. I found this great sketch challenge at Just Add Ink. Here's their challenge: This sketch has so many possiblilities. The design team has made some fabulous creations. Be sure to check them out. But before you head over there, here's what I made: The Everyday Chic DSP is so much fun because you can color the paper any color or way YOU want to! I chose to color randomly using my retired Daffodil and Bermuda Bay Blendabilities. You could also use markers, sponge daubers, a brayer, or Copics. The paper is dark on one side, and light on the other so the possiblities are endless. I really like this paper. I had lots of fun with layers for this sketch, pulling from a pretty Echo Park paper pad. The darling lamb is from the Sweet Little Lamb set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. I colored it up with Copic markers then die cut with circle dies. The angled panel is cut from a 4" panel of paper that I marked at 3.5" on one side and 2.25" on the other, then lined up the marks to cut the angle. Super simple but it brings a fun element to the card. After layering up my papers, I stamped the congrats sentiment from Engagement & Wedding Innies on the main panel, then accented with a few pearls to finish things off. Alrighty, now it's your turn! Hi friends! It's time for a new Mojo Monday sketch! As always, you're free to play along with any papercrafting products your heart desires and enter as many creations as you like. I had to take a peek back to see if this sketch had been used before, and was surprised not to see it. The two crossed panels is kind of my go-to start to a card, especially with patterned paper. I typically use a circle as the focal point, but decided to switch to a square for a change. The stamps are from the new Summer Fruits set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps. I had a lot of fun coloring them with Copics, then playing around with some new to me papers from Echo Park It's actually a patriotic pad, but totally made me think of picnics and cherry picking, The sentiment is masked off to use just par and I added the missing you from the Rose Banner set above.
