I had a few customers and team members tell me that they often get frustrated understanding measurements for their card making so I decided to try and help. measurements and increments of measurements can be tricky to grasp more so when we work in inches. I will say right away I have a Youtube video linked just below where I visually go through this...so if like me you need to see to understand then click the link and watch. So we basically use either CMS or inches to measure when we are working in paper crafting. CMS are units and each of these is split into ten smaller units called Millimetres. We have 100 centimetres in one meter. Inches are more complicated.... So we have a length called a foot here instead of meters. Each foot is made of 12 inches and each inch is divided into 16 parts. Now mathematically these inch measurements fall into fractions and here is where some people get confused. If you look at the photo above for example where we would think we have 4 lots of 16 it becomes re named to quarter 1/4. And where we see 2 lots of 8 it also becomes a quarter 1/4. So it helps to learn basic fractions first and get them in your head right to understand your measurements. I also advise sticking to one set of measurements and those being the ones you are used to. I can tell you that 1 inch is roughly equivalent to 2.5 CMS .... but past full inches it becomes tricky so here is a link to a measurement converter for you to use. Book mark it and keep it safe use the arrows to change what unit you wish converting and hey presto MEASUREMENT CONVERTER I hope some of this helps again I do have a visual explanation on my YouTube so grab a brew, get comfy and enjoy the video. Today is a start of a new month of Viva La Verve sketches and Julee is kickin' it with a pastel trio and sketch challenge. If you're new to Viva La Verve or just getting back into the sketches you'll notice it's changed a wee bit. The challenge has moved to it's own blog! Twice a month there is a twist added to the challenge like this week is color. Get all the details about the challenge and prized on the Viva La Verve Challenge blog! Here's my card sample for the sketch. I started with a paper pad from Authentique called Delightful and found the sweet blue and green from the challenge. Then I used the graph stamp from Making a Statement around the middle of my background paper (notice the pink?) inking in Crumb Cake ink. I wanted some subtle direction on the right side of the card so I used the chevron stamp from Borderline in Crumb Cake to make that happen. I added my mixed media touch with white gesso around the outside and then... I added pink (Painterly Pink to be exact) because the mood was swinging with pastels. The focal cluster is made up of Flag It Die Set pennants stamped with the chevron stamp, the Banner Bundle Die (largest one) and a DIY circle ring of three (I used two circle dies faced cutting edge down to center then taped them together.) Gesso and pink paint smudged around the borders and then a perfect (fork technique) bow from Moss Green ribbon. Oh, and I used the paper piercing kit and piercing tool around the circle and bottom layer. I hope you are having a great week... regardless of the weather or schedule you might have, I will wish you find something to enjoy, to relax about or laugh over. See you next week! Details: Stamps: Making a Statement and Borderline (Verve Stamps) Paper: Delightful (Authentique), Kraft (Neenah) Ink: Crumb Cake (Stampin' Up) Accessories: Flag It Die Set and Banner Bundle Die Set (A Cut Above, Verve), paper piercer kit and piercer tool (Stampin' Up), Moss Green ribbon (Summer Sailing Ribbon Collection, Verve), acrylic paint (Painterly Pink, Claudine Hellmuth), white gesso

I thought I would share the card I made this weekend for the newest CR84FN color challenge. I love these soft pastel colors and I wanted to use more pattern paper! I wanted to also use my new Paper Smooches sentiment stamp set here. I am in LOVE with this set!! You will be seeing more of this for sure! Please don't peek too close as I did a bit of sewing on this to shabby it up a little. I say this as I had a very brief inservice during my Stamping Away weekend on how to sew using an ancient sewing machine I picked up for cheap. So this was my first attempt on a card! Yay! Thanks Jen and Eva for being patient with me and showing me a few things! Here's this week's inspiration photo and color scheme from CR84FN! Thanks for stopping by today! {friend} Stamps: Sentiment Sampler (Paper Smooches) Ink: True Black, Chamomile Tea Dye Paper: Lost and Found DP (MME), Aqua Mist (PTI), old sheet music Misc: Flowers (Recollections), Doilies (Wilton), Ivory Satin Ribbon (Dollar Tree), Sewing Machine, Sizzix Leaf/Branch Die, Pearls (Kaisercraft)

Today's Create With Stamping Friends Saturday Hop theme is a neutral palette; whites, grays, ivorys, browns or black. I chose browns for this card - Basic Beige and Early Espresso. The floral image was stamped in Early Espresso on Basic Beige cardstock and "colored" with Clear Wink of Stella. The W.O.S. picked up the ink from the stamped image like using a Water Painter, adding subtle shimmer, as well. I love the circle dies in the Spotlight on Nature bundle! I think they're going to be used a lot in the near future. That's all for today - see you next Saturday! Up next is Libby Fens at Libby Stamps. On a grey day - a cheerful card to lift my mood..... This stamped panel was another of the "bits" I had lying around, so being in my messing about mood, I decided to do something with it. Again, not a good day for photography! The stamps are one of my favourite sets from EI. The main panel : stamped in black stazon, coloured with various distress inks and then triple embossed. I went for a (bold for me) straight stamping onto card for the background again with distress inks. There was a reason why I when for a simple, clean card today, and that was to practice for a forthcoming venture by my cuttling mate Chrissie, who along with her friend Mandi are setting up a NEW weekly challenge blog called "Less is more". This is a technique which I like and so I hope to join in with their first challenge on Saturday 5th February. If you also like this style of artwork, why not pop over to their new blog and join in - you will be find some very interesting and talented crafters at work, and Chrissie and Mandi would be real chuffed to see you. To everyone who has left comment over the last week, you have cheered up me no end! Thank you soooo much, I really do appreciate your support. Today has been a much more positive day, although my desk has yet to be glued! I have even had a thought or two outside the box - it must be your encouragement!

Question from Yesterday: DonnaK asked where I buy Twinkling H2Os. I bought mine at Marco's Paper, a brick and mortar store in the Dayton area. But you can find them at the big craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's) and buy with a coupon! Now on to today's post, which hopefully Blogger will post in a timely fashion.... Today's Tip is one of those that, on the one hand, seems like a no-brainer, but, on the other hand, makes life so much easier! After getting sick of doing the same math over and over, I made a simple, handwritten index card, which I posted on my bulletin board right over my workspace, with a list of dimensions for cutting stamped panels to matte evenly on a standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card. It lists the sizes for cutting panels in quarter-inch increments. (Those of you who live in countries where "standard" is different can easily adapt this idea for yourselves.) I typed it up for those of you using American measures. Hopefully, you can save it and print it for your own use. If I cut a 4 1/4" x 3" stamped, panel, for instance, all I have to do is move up a quarter inch to get the measurements for a 1/8" matte all the way around the stamped panel. For a thinner 1/16" matte (as on yesterday's card), it's easy enough to just add 1/8" to the dimensions of the stamped panel. I hope this makes sense. And here is a happy CAS card that utilized this little chart. Design Discussion: Please note how I rooted the flowers in the open space provided by the sentiment. I just love the way that looks!!!! Supplies stamps: Shady Tree Studio ink: Memento paper: PTI white, SU brilliant blue accessories: dimensionals. Personal News: My son Jack, who has high-functioning autism, was released from private occupational therapy Wednesday! After four years, he's finally functionally appropriate for fine motor and hand-eye coordination! YIPPYYYYY! He continues to receive OT through our school district, but this is a wonderful milestone for him to meet...and one less regular therapy session to cart him to! His developmental pediatrician saw Jack yesterday and is blown away by his progress. Jack truly has blossomed in the past six months. He's even one of the best readers in his regular 2nd grade class! Needless to say, we're on Cloud 9 around here right now, and I just had to share!!!
