The hallmark of this easy sympathy card is the Stampin’ Up! Wildly Flowering Designer Series Paper (DSP). I simply cut a 3 x 4 1/2 rectangle into 1” strips to create a screen design. You know me, I love the clean and simple (CAS) look and it goes so well with cute children's cards. But it's not always as easy as you think to get the balance right. Today I'm going to take you through some steps to help you learn how you can make clean and simple cards too. Starting Point I start with a stamp set and work from there. It helps me visualise a design on the page. But sometimes nothing comes to mind and so I turn to Pinterest for some inspiration (thanks to Melissa Stout for her gorgeous designs!). That's what I did for these cards you see here using the Zoo Globe set (it's a fun set - keep reading to see an image). Learning from CASEing In this case I CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) the cards exactly and the process of that taught me a few things. Firstly that in the giraffe & koala card that a CAS card can have a "busy" focal point. Here the smaller card she has placed into the design is the focal point - your eye is drawn toward that and that only and the rest of the card is blank. The border frames it all and lifts that smaller white frame. Secondly that a sentiment strip which runs across the page from edge to edge (in this case the smaller card edges) and which cuts the focal picture in two is actually a great way of tying elements together rather than pushing them apart! More lessons learnt The next card of hers taught me that the white embossing on the black cardstock looks fantastic on an all white CAS card. The sentiment becomes a real stand out element of the focal point. It also taught me that when using a small thing in the middle of the page that is a neutral tone, like this little elephant, that the addition of colour will help lift the whole focal point of the card and really make it pop. Applying lessons learnt Next I took what I had learnt from my CASEing exercise and applied them to cards using the Moving Along stamp set (see further down for image) which I thought could offer me a similar look but something that was my own too. My 1st Card - Tips Keeps the single focal point of the elephant card but with an image that is a single block of colour. The train tracks underneath the engine help anchor the focal point. The puffs of smoke provide the perfect framing for the sentiment piece to nestle into the image. My 2nd Card - Tips Using the sentiment strip idea from the giraffe & koala card I used it to ground the focal point of the helicopter. Stamping on the clouds and little "woosh" lines behind the raised helicopter gives the feel that it really is flying. The blue of the clouds also softens the black and makes it less dominant on the page. My 3rd Card (the toughest to design) - Tips My final card posed me the greatest difficulty. I tried a number of different designs before coming up with this one. What I thought would work didn't look right. The stamp set contains a road stamp which I was trying to incorporate, but it was only when I realised that it provided too much block colour (even if that was a neutral tone) that was competing on the page with the car and the black border, that I new I had to ditch it, and use the sentiment strip as a replacement. Just for you!
This card is inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest — it didn't use Stampin' Up! product but I knew I could make it with my SU supplies. I love cards with lots of white space but I also love embellishments. I resisted adding anything else to this card, leaving all that glorious white space. The photo is a little wonky so I could get the copper to show. Start with a base of Thick Whisper White. With a pencil I hand drew an arc. Using the leaf from the May Flowers Framelits I cut the leaf 3 times at varying angles then trimmed the lower right edge off with my Paper Snips. From the Copper Foil paper I cut 3 more leaves. I embossed a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of Whisper White with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder and adhered it to the back side of the front of the card. Then adhered the copper leaves with Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive . Emboss the greeting with Copper Embossing Powder. I used the thank you from Thoughtful Banners. That's it! Fast, easy, elegant — change the greeting to whatever you need! Tip: The cool thing about using photopolymer stamps, as I did here, is they can be shaped a little. I added just a little curve to the greeting to match the line of the arc. Thanks for looking! Debbie Shop 24/7 from my online store. Don't forget to check great deals in the Clearance Rack

It's time for a new sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch! Check out this big diagonal! I decided to keep it fun and festive using this big "...
Happy Sunday! It's a long weekend here, so I am loving having the extra day to get some crafting in! Here's the sketch: Some dimensions for reference: Card Base: 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 Image Panel: 3-3/8 x 4-1/4 Mini Patterned Panel: 1-1/4 x 4-1/4 Optional Layer for Image Panel: 3-1/2 x 4-1/4 This card is also my entry for one of the Olympic Challenges over at My Favorite Things. It's for the 20 minute challenge. One of the great things with doing a sketch is that most of the guesswork is gone since you have your layout. You just have to find some paper, ink,and stamps. I used a retired MFT set- Pretty Poppies. I love this set! It has great sentiments. It also has a nice long word background (which is what I used to make my patterned panel) Supplies: Stamps: Pretty Poppies Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Olive Olive, Early Espresso Paper: Very Vanilla, Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso Accessories, etc: Brown tweed ribbon Here's Chera's card: I absolutely love this sketch! It's so simple but yet so elegant!! I also realized that MANY of my cards are purple. In case you didn’t notice I love purple!! Love it! So I told myself this sketch was not allowed to be purple….(might have to make another one tho that is purple. hehe) For this card I pulled out Papertrey Ink bitty bouquet set! I love this set I’ve used it many times but every time I use it I think I should use it more! The ink colours for this card are Wplus9 wild mango, pumpkin spice and nautical navy. The green is from Simon says stamp green leaf! Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for stopping by!! If you play along, please leave a link!

Even though my cards all almost all Clean and Simple, I rarely make a one-layer card. But, I made one last week:) I stamped the flowers with a stamp from the dollar bin at Michael's. (It had a sentiment on it, but I cut it apart so I can use them separately.) I stamped the sentiment (from Papertrey Ink's Birthday Basics) over the stems. I scored five lines on the left side with my Scor-Pal. I put some pink on the flowers with a colored pencil, added Star Dust Stickles to them, and then gave each one a pearl center. That's it! Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you'll come back and visit again soon!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Clean And Simple (CAS) card. A Clean And Simple card has lots of white space, minimal layers and little or no embellishments. My card evolved from this color block design in the Ful of Life Designer Series Paper. I planned to go in a completely different direction, […]
I hadn't uploaded a card to SplitCoastStampers since last April! I didn't have Wyatt today and took the opportunity to do a challenge and upload my card. The challenge was to confine your "art area" to a space less than two and a half inches square. With this card, I am also continuing my mission to use all of my Stampin' Up! stamps. Both stamps on this card are from the set called "Happy Harmony." I colored the flowers with markers and used the "thumping" technique. (Color with one color, and then lightly "bounce" or "thump" over the colored area with a darker marker.) I embossed the frame with a square Nestability. Edited to add: Here is a simple video I did on this technique. I hope it helps! Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you'll come back and visit again soon!

It’s Lorraine from Created by Lorraine and I’m here to share a set of cards that showcase Avery Elle’s Banner & Wreath stamp set and dies, as well as my love for a clean and simple style. Here’s the first card: I have to admit that this layout is a go-to design for me, and I use it over and over again especially when I need to crank out cards for the holidays. I started off by using masking tape to cover the bottom portion of the card. Then I blended in distress ink – darker at the tape’s edge and then lighter moving up. After removing the masking tape, I stamped the sentiment, colored the sweet birds with Copic markers, and popped them up on foam adhesive. Here’s another: same layout, with different ink and sentiment. And the third. Like I said, the layout makes mass production pretty easy. All together, my card set. I think there’s something about the small size of both the birds and font that keeps these cards very clean and simple. Thanks for taking a look! Supplies: Avery Elle Banner & Wreath (stamps and dies) Memento tuxedo black ink Tim Holtz Distress Ink in peacock feathers, squeezed lemonade, and spiced marmalade Copic markers Foam adhesive

Hi there! Here's a card I made for the challenge at CAS(E) this Sketch. I used Concord & 9th's Wildflower stamp set and Waffle Flower Craft's Balloon Messages stamp set. The card is based off of this layout. I just flipped it around. Please come by the Butterfly Reflections Ink blog, where I share my process for making the card. I used the same technique to make this entire card set. Thank you for taking a look!
