La escalera de San José En la ciudad de Santa Fe, Nuevo México (Estados Unidos), existe un viejo templo conocido como Capilla de Loreto. En ella se encuentra una bella escalera cuya construcción es atribuida por la piedad tradicional al mismísimo San José. En 1898 la capilla sufrió una reforma y se construyó un techo nuevo, pero se olvidaron de colocar una escalera para subir al Coro. Las monjas a cargo del templo buscaron a los carpinteros de la región y a todos le resultaba difícil hacer una escalera para una capilla tan pequeña. Entonces rezaron una novena a San José para pedir una solución. Según cuenta la "leyenda", en el último día de la novena, apareció un hombre con un burro y una caja de herramientas. Se ofreció a construir la escalera, pero exigió que se cerraran las puertas y no se revelara su identidad. Una vez que la escalera estuvo construida, cuando se debería realizar el pago del servicio, el hombre desapareció sin dejar rastro. Las hermanas pusieron anuncios en el periódico local y lo buscaron alrededor de la región, sin encontrar ninguna noticia o información sobre el carpintero desconocido. En ese momento las hermanas se dieron cuenta de que el hombre podría haber sido la persona de San José, enviado por Jesús, debido a varios sorprendentes elementos: - Es misterioso cómo la escalera permanece en pie, siendo de tipo caracol y sin tener un soporte central. De hecho, sólo un lado tiene un soporte metálico que se añadió después, y este hecho no resuelve la esencia de la incógnita. Se dice que los ingenieros y los arquitectos no han podido descubrir la física detrás de esta obra. - La madera utilizada no es la región, y nadie sabe cómo llegó allí. - No se utilizó ni un solo clavo en la escalera, sólo clavijas de madera. - La escalera tiene 33 escalones, la edad de Jesucristo al ser crucificado. Lo cierto es que un gran número de artículos y programas de televisión se le dedicaron a ella y sus "misterios". La capilla, hoy desacralizada y convertida en museo, recibe un promedio de 200 ceremonias de casamiento al año y cientos de turistas.
El Papa Francisco aseguró que, cuando tiene un problema, lo escribe en un papel y lo pone debajo de la imagen de San José Dormido.
