These adorable and colorful Valentine's Day cookies were just the perfect thing for playtime in the kitchen with my daughter and 18 month old granddaughter who had to be up on the stool helping (and snitching dough.) Their Play-doh like colors reminded me of having fun when I was a child. I still love the feel and smell of Play-doh. Monique at La Table de Nana introduced me to this absolutely fun Brigitte Cookie Cutter that you can stamp cookies with. I was a little afraid that the imprinted letters would disappear in my quick cookie that uses a cake mix and an egg but happily, the messages in the Conversation Heart Cookies came out beautifully! Cake Mix Sugar Cookies 1 box Betty Crocker French Vanilla Cake Mix (I love this cake mix the best but you could use a Vanilla cake mix.) 1 large egg 1/2 C. melted butter (Told you they were easy!) Gel Food Coloring Brigitte Cookie Stamp Preheat oven to 350. Mix all three ingredients together in a large mixer bowl using the batter attachment until it is well blended. Gather the dough into a ball and divide it into as many colors as you want to make. Add a drop or two of the gel coloring to each ball. Remember that the colors will be lighter after they bake so adjust the coloring accordingly. I like to roll my dough out on parchment paper and then to bake them on parchment paper. That way I don't use any flour and I can roll and reroll the dough again and again and the first cookie is as good as the last. This dough doesn't need any refrigeration and is so quick and easy. (I rolled out all of the different colors on pieces of parchment paper, then came back and cut them and printed them with the cookie stamp so that I could stamp all of the "Kiss Me" cookies at once without constantly changing the cookie stamp.) Bake from 6-8 minutes depending on the size of the cookie. I don't like my sugar cookies overbaked so I bake just until the tops are dry and then let them cool on the pan. They went so quickly, I am sure we are going to have to make more! (The thing that took the most time was separating the little letters that come with the cookie stamp. Now that that is done, printing cookies of all kinds will be so simple and easy.) Thanks Monique! (She also recommended buying cookie and baking supplies on Ebay for better prices and I agree! Again, watch your prices because some places are selling these for triple what I bought the set for!) Click here for printable recipe. Please take one and be My Valentine! I will be posting this with Pink Saturday Seasonal Sunday Metamophosis Monday Foodie Friday
