A Candyland theme party a fun idea for a baby shower, first birthday, or great way to celebrate a birthday girl or boy!
Life is sweet.
What child doesn't love candy? For that matter, what adult truly doesn't love candy?! So wouldn't a candyland party be the perfect theme for a 4 year old?! I thought so and when I went browsing on pinterest it confirmed my ideas! What fun! First coming up with the decorations, then the food, not to mention all the fun games?! I had my work cut out for me with this party that for sure! My Happy Birthday sign was inspired from something I found on google - I just used card stock to make my creations, but you could also use scrapbooking paper to get your patterns! For the goody bags I went with piñatas! Filled of course with all kinds of candy! Cake pops, chocolate suckers, cookies, smartie filled chocolate cupcakes and a tooth brush to make the parents happy ;) lol!! I found these cute gumball machine's on pinterest too!! Simple flower pots from the $1 store, and glass bowls also from the $1 store! I chose not to glue the tops of the gumball machine's to the glass bowls because I wanted to fill them with jube-jubes! I had the kids take a guess how many was in each machine! Funny thing - most kids guessed 20-35?!?! LOL!! Kids are hilarious! Another game that we played was the candy ball game! I went to the dollar store and collected a bunch of little trinkets as well as lots of candy - and wrapped it all up in a roll of tape! The kids had to roll dice until they got two of the same number (my kids are younger so I actually used dice from my daughters yahtzee game so the kids just had to get two princesses the same! Made it all run a lot smoother!) The tape ball game was a huge success - the tape tends to break off a lot so be sure to have a pair of scissors handy and the game will keep going! We also played pin the gum ball on the gumball machine! I think this was one of the kids most favourite games out of everything! They had a blast playing this! And it was so easy to make! Just a couple sheets of Bristol board taped together! Super easy and so much fun! And then there were the party decorations!! I spent so much time throwing all these elements together and I am so happy with how they came together! There was just a great wow factor to this party! Let the candyland game begin! Cupcake commons was the first stop in this adventure land! The cupcakes were made out of foam core from the dollar store. I glued Bristol board onto the cupcakes for some colour and an extra piece of foam core on the backs to support them so that they could stand up along the pathway! I also wrapped balloons with cello wrap so that they would look like candies! These were randomly placed throughout the party! The kids enjoyed playing with them! These lollipops were so cute, I just loved them! Balloons wrapped in cello (I bought a lot of cello at micheals they have a large roll and with a coupon it is only $7!) I tied an elastic around the base of the balloons so that they would fit over the Bristol board "sticks"..... the sticks were just made from Bristol board rolled and glued together with a hot glue gun! The tricky part is getting them to stand up inside. I filled little baggies of sand and dropped them inside the tubes (Don't forget to make a bottom for your tubes so the sand bags don't fall out of the tubes!) I also found I had to use the glue gun to attach the balloons to the sticks as they kept slipping off :( Now yes these lollipops are super cute but add some little boys to the party and all of a sudden you have swords?! lol!! All fun and games until bags of sand start breaking ALL OVER the house!! For the end of the game we had this fun punch game! This candy castle was created out of foam core! The holes were cut out and then tissue paper was attached to the backs. Then I took string and hung goody bags of candies behind a few of the circles! The kids kept hitting until they won! The only problem is that the foam core was not strong enough, so someone had to stand behind the castle and add some extra support each time the kiddies knocked the tissue out! And the cake! So many little elements to make this game board yummy! Lots of Styrofoam balls covered in icin and candies! Gum drops, sour jubes and lots of cupcakes! The cupcakes were so much fun! The kids loved them! First I cored the centers of the cupcakes..... Then I filled them with jelly beans (next time I would go with something different because the jelly beans were a little warm inside the cupcakes (not to the taste but the colours were sweating into the cupcakes a little bit - so maybe jelly tots or something?) next the tops go back on over the jelly beans. Add the toppings and boom the cupcakes are done! When the kids broke the cupcakes open they were treated with a yummy surprise! The chocolate guy was made from Rice Krispies and covered in fondant! The base of him was a Styrofoam dummy! This was actually the cake for the party! lol!! It was the perfect amount of cake for the grown ups! My first sprinkle cake - sooooo messy to make, but it turned out so great! The ice cream cone is actually Styrofoam balls stacked together and covered in fondant - the kids had fun taking photos with this one! Yummy ice cream treat for the birthday boy and his sister!

Steve Spangler Science provided some materials for the party at my request. As always, opinions are 100% mine! I was beyond excited (and surprised) when this year, Isabella asked for a Science Party, rather than the typical Princess party. After all, she does want to be a scientist when she grows up. Of course I said yes and went crazy in the planning. It all looks very involved but really, it was an easy party and definitely less expensive than hosting outside of the home. And before I get started on telling you about all our mad scientist party ideas,
