Canadian jade is a type of nephrite jade that ranges in color from light green to dark green and sometimes in a black. The jade is found all over British Columbia, including Cassiar, Dease Lake, Hazelton and sometimes in the Frazer and Bridge Rivers, to name a few. The Canadian jade mines are the largest jade producing mines in the world. As many Canadian mines are slowly being depleted, the price of jade keeps going up as it becomes scarcer. Jade is a hard stone and is very difficult to carve, diamond or Carborundum tools and files must be used. Green jade is prized as is chrome jade (jade with bright green flecks running through it) and cat's eye jade (jade with a chatoyant flash running through it.) Whatever type of jade you prefer, a good consistent color and a good depth of color is important. Canadian jade rates with the world’s best. Some believe that the entrance to heaven is blocked by a huge jade boulder. Only people that cherished jade during their lifetime can move the boulder. Others believe that jade may strengthen the heart and immune system and that it may also cleanse the blood, increase longevity and fertility. Whatever your beliefs, may your piece of jade bring you good luck and fortune and years of enjoyment.

So, why a flatulence reference for such a delicious pastry? There are a few theories. One points to the noise that doughnuts make while being fried. Another explains that a nun farted in a kitchen causing another nun to crack up so hard, she dropped some pastry in hot oil and hey whaddyaknow, it tasted pretty good.

But there are MANY genealogy sources that aren't online and can be easily overlooked.

I've blogged about my chalkboard themed products several times before. You can see all those posts here. Today, I'm focusing on my Schedule Cards. These have recently gone through a huge overhaul and there are now 141 cards in the file!!! Wow, that's a lot of events to happen in your classroom! I'll be honest, several of them are variations of the same thing to fit the way you like to talk about it (word work vs. spelling, for example). But, if you purchase this file and something is missing, I will add it in for you! You just need to ask. These products are used in my friend Crystal's classroom. This photo is of the schedule cards set up for the first day of school, which is really just an hour and a half long for us. If you look in the image at the top of this blog post, these cards can be easily jazzed up to match your theme by matting in brightly coloured paper. If you want, you can print out the clock pieces, laminate, and use a whiteboard pen to customize your schedule even more. This makes a great visual for the kiddos. So, what's included in this 141 card package? I've tried to group the items by subject/activity for easier printing, though there are a few out of order. Gwa'yi village, also known as Kingcome, is the home of the Dzawada’enuxw (Tsawataineuk) People or “People of the oolichan place”. It is located a few kilometers up the Kingcome River from the head of Kingcome Inlet. Gwa'yi holds special significance because it became a refuge for the practice of potlatching during the Canadian government's ban on the gift giving ceremony between 1885 and 1951. During the winter months when these ceremonials occurred, the village of Gwa'yi was especially difficult to access and was situated in such a way that the authorities could not approach by day or night without being seen or heard. Gwa'yi is also the setting for the book I Heard the Owl Call My Name".
