Canada 10 Dollars Silver Coin 2015 Toronto Maple Leafs National Hockey League - NHL - Canadian Teams This 2015 $10 fine silver coin is one of seven in a new series from the Royal Canadian Mint that celebrates the Canadian franchises of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hockey's beloved status in Canada makes it "our game." The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The reverse of the coin pays homage to the Toronto Maple Leafs, with their logo tucked neatly to the left side of the coin, while a silhouette of an advancing hockey player speeding across the ice towards the viewer is seen on the right. The colours of the Toronto Maple Leafs are brought to life through the use of advanced "sheer effect" colourization that makes the colours flash fantastically under the light. This coin boasts a reverse-proof finish, with text indicating the face value of "10 DOLLARS", the country "CANADA" and the date "2015" circling the rim. The coin is struck in a half-ounce of 99.99% fine silver, and boasts an unusually low mintage of only 5,000 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt. Mintage: 5000. Composition: 99.99% pure silver. Finish: reverse proof. Weight: 15.87 g. Diameter: 34 mm. Edge: serrated. Face value: 10 Canadian Dollars. Artist: Anderson (reverse), Susanna Blunt (obverse). Manufacturer: Royal Canadian Mint. The Toronto Maple Leafs: The franchise was founded in 1917, and in 1919, the NHL transferred the franchise to new owners who dubbed the team the Toronto St. Patricks. The franchise was sold again in 1926, and the name was changed again, to the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club. The Maple Leafs have won thirteen Stanley Cup championships, second only to the twenty-four championships of their primary rival, the Montreal Canadiens. Much to the despair of their large and enthusiastic fanbase, they won their last championship in 1967. The Leafs are the most valuable franchise in the NHL. Notable Hockey Hall of Famers amongst the Leafs are Johnny Bower, Frank Mahovlich, and Darryl Sittler. The Toronto Maple Leafs The Maple Leafs are a professional ice hockey team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The organization, one of the "Original Six" members of the NHL, is officially known as the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club and is the leading subsidiary of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE). They have played at at the Air Canada Centre (ACC) since 1999, after 68 years at the storied Maple Leaf Gardens. The Leafs, as they called by their fans, are well known for their long and bitter rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens, and more recent rivalry with the Ottawa Senators. The franchise has won a total of 13 Stanley Cups: eleven as the Leafs, one as the Toronto St. Patricks, and one as the Toronto Arenas. Assessed at $413 million in 2007, the Maple Leafs are the most valuable team in the NHL, followed by the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings. Many NHL Hall of Famers have played for the Leafs over the years, including Darryl Sittler, Dave Keon and Ted Kennedy. NHL and the NHL Shield are registered trademarks of the National Hockey League. 1151) Red Maple Coin, Canada: "Maple Leaf Annual Coin Series" from the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM): A $10 ( 10 Dollars) Silver Coin issued in 2019: The Maple (or "Acer") is Canada's arboreal emblem and the species is more diverse than the single leaf that features on Canada's flag. Interestingly, the official symbol encompasses ten different maple species, with at least one species found in every Province - which makes the Maple somewhat of a natural icon for the country. The 2019 edition of the Royal Canadian Mint's (RCM) issue highlights the beauty of the Red Maple -"Acer rubrum". Incidentally, "Acer rubrum" is one of the most common maple species in Eastern North America, where it grows from Newfoundland and Labrador to Florida. Named for the colour of its twigs, buds and flowers in the spring, the Red Maple changes from green to a fiery red in the fall and sometimes Gold. The leaves are slightly smaller than those of the Sugar Maple, withdeeper "V" notches that separate the lobes. The Maple Leaf designs on recent Canadian coinage have been inspired by the classic Maple Twig (1937-2012) which featured on the now discontinued one-cent coin. The Maple Leaf Coin Series has now become an annual feature, which is designed to showcase Canada's diverse Maple leaves. The Commemorative Coin: The Reverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin shows Red Maple leaves growing on a stalk/twig. The brilliant relief adds a splash of summer sunshine to this face of the coin. The coin design showcases the peak summer foliage of the Red Maple tree. Three leaves are shown in opposite arrangement that fills much of the central design. The natural positioning allows for a limited view of the long petioles that secure the two furthest leaves to the twig. Fine engraving stands in for the veins that run through each leaf's palmate lobes, which are separated by "V" shaped notches. The inscriptions are "CANADA" (on the upper periphery) and "10 DOLLARS" (on the lower periphery). At centre left is given the year of issue "2019", while the initials of the Reverse face designer "PL" (standing for "Pierre Leduc") are inscribed at centre right. The Reverse of the 10 Dollars Red Maple Silver Coin presented here in its encapsulated protective covering. The selectively coloured red of the coin design is clearly contrasted in this image. The Obverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin shows an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. D.G. REGINA" (meaning "Elizabeth II, By the Grace of God Queen"). The Obverse of the $10 (Ten Dollars) Silver Coin is presented here in its encapsulated protective covering. The specifications of this Silver coin are: Theme: Red Maple (Acer rubrum); Denomination: $10 (Ten Dollars); Metal Composition: .9999 Silver (Ag); Coin Quality: Specimen/Unirculated; Weight: 15.87 grams; Diameter/Size: 34.0 mm; Edge: Serrated; Certificate of Authentication (COA): Yes, Serialised; Coin Designers: Pierre Leduc (Reverse), Susanna Blunt (Obverse); Mint: Royal Canadian Mint (RAM); Year of issue: 2019. The above images are of the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and specifications of the coin. The 2019 Maple Coin is enclosed in a classic maroon clamshell and packaged in a graphic beauty presentation box. The open clamshell reveals the elegant encapsulated silver coin with its selective red colouring. The Reverse and Obverse of the coin placed side by side, together with a box in which the clamshell containing the encapsulated silver coin is placed. (The above $10 Silver coin is from the collection of Dennis Ksing.
