One of the highlights of our Young Women's Camp this year were our Camp Fire Sing-A-Long's. For the first time in FOREVER we were able to light an actual fire. In years past we have not been able to due to fire restrictions. We were so excited that it didn't even bother us that it was so HOT!!! I love our Camp Fire Sing-A-Long's because not only do we sing some of those silly camp songs, but we also allow the Young Women to highlight some of their talents. Each year at our Pre-Camp we have a YCL that has a sign-up sheet ready to go for the younger girls to sign up to share musical talents, skits, poems, artwork, how to demonstrations, etc... We usually allow up to 5 per evening. This is almost like a mini talent show outside. This definitely is one of my favorite parts of camp! You should try it...I promise you will love it too! Here's a general idea as to how we run the evening at the Camp Fire: 1. General Gathering Songs 2. Warm Up Songs 3. Rounds 4. Silly Action Songs 5. Skits/Stories/Talents/Etc... provided by those that signed up 6. Slower Songs 7. Reverent Songs 8. Evening Prayer At our first camp fire this summer we had just our YCL'S up at camp. We added a few extra moments of fun...THE SPARKLERS! Some of our Leaders and Young Women were a little shy around them while others couldn't wait to get their hands on them so they could spell their names and wave them in the air. We also used this time to plan our SNIPE HUNTING experience for the younger campers. Instead of Snipe Hunting this year the girls decided to go PETON HUNTING (this is a made up name for a miniature character that looks like a mouse/squirrel/etc... See photo - we have a really good artist in the bunch that drew what a PETON looks like. The girls had the choice between the bird and the mouse like character. We went with the mouse!). This is a short list of some of the songs we sing at our Young Women's Camp each year. I also have 2 more lists of fun camping songs. Don't be shy to ask for a copy of them for your upcoming Young Women's Camp. If you would like a copy of the camp songs that we have used at our Young Women's Camp....please comment here or email me at [email protected]. Don't forget to leave me your email address! Natalie and I just returned from girls' camp and we had a blast! Now that I have caught up on some much needed sleep, I wanted to post the crafts that we made at camp. I was asked to be in charge of the crafts and I had so many ideas running through my head. We narrowed it down to three ideas. We didn't get to make all three but I will be showing them all since I made a sample of each one. The young women keep asking me about the third project so we will be doing it for a mutual night. For the first craft each girl received one of these cute lunch bags that contained a 4X4 wood block and a picture of the Snowflake, Arizona temple. My brother was generous enough to provide me with a picture of the temple with this years' theme. This project was very simple. The girls just had to paint and sand the block, then cut the picture into a 4X4 square. (I ordered 4X6 prints) They modge podged the picture onto the block then tied a scrap of fabric around it. I brought a big bag of scrap fabric and several colors of paint. It was fun to see how creative the girls were. For the next project they received a cup with a chain and a pendant in it. I brought some scrap paper from all of my scrapbooky projects. They cut a square of scrapbook paper for the background, then added a monogram and other small embellishments such as rhinestones and small brads. I also brought some old magazines with me and some of the girls cut out letters or words or images from the magazines to put into their necklaces. We used a glue stick to glue the paper down temporarily so it wouldn't float up when we put the diamond glaze in. Then we covered the scrapbook paper with a thin layer of Diamond Glaze and let it dry for about 30 min. The Diamond Glaze dries hard with a glossy finish. The girls used their cups that we gave them to put the pendant in while it was drying. The girls loved this project and I noticed many of them wore their necklaces to church the next Sunday. The last project (the one that we didn't have time for) was a metal chalk board and magnets. Our Bishop happens to own a heating and cooling business so we got sheet metal scraps for FREE! Randy drilled holes in the metal to thread ribbon through for hanging. I primed the sheet metal, painted it with chalkboard paint and threaded the ribbon through the holes. The magnets are made with fabric flowers. The girls are so excited for this one and they keep asking me when we are going to do it. I think the girls really enjoyed all of the projects. They kept telling me thanks. They are so sweet. We had a great time and everyone got along so well. Camp was a blast! I can't wait until next year!

Our camp kickoff was held on March 7th at the Stake Center and was AMAZING!! THere were great cheers, beautiful banners, a spiritual program and prizes given out to several wards. Lori Fano, Makay Tautu, Joann AhYou, Luisa Kuaea and Julie Kaio We were excited to introduce the theme to the YW and help them feel of the power that comes from a strong testimony. We shared examples of women who has that fire from the scriptures and encouraged the girls to keep their fires burning strong! The decorations were so colorful and beautiful! Each DISTRICT (Ward) brought a banner that represented the value that they were assigned. There were many creative and beautiful banners! Each YW and leader had the chance to writer their testimony on a small colored flag which will be hung at girls camp. If girls in your ward were not able to attend we would still love for them to participate in this. We ended the evening with comments from President Paongo. He is FIRED UP and encouraged every young woman to make the commitment to be girls camp. After the program we had these yummy cupcakes. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING: *Penny Vaea who wrote and oversaw the program *Manu Harris for her work with the Girl on Fire Music *Heather Ried for the costumes *Lori Fano, Makay Tautu, Joann AhYou, Luisa Kuaea and Julie Kaio for their parts in the program *Brother Vaea and his helpers for the music and sound effects *Everyone who helped decorate and clean up *All the YCLs and Leaders who participated. Have you made a camp blanket or poncho? I finally decided to make myself one!I was not sure if I wanted a blanket or poncho style. I only knew that I wanted it to last a lifetime.I had a small collection of badges and patches from my youth in Guiding, and those that I started to collect as my time as a leader in Guiding and Scouting. I can look at each crest or badge, even those from when I was a girl and remember when and where I was when I received it. At one of our camps last Spring, girls en
