Well, today is our first day of home visits! We are going to over 10 houses today and splitting the rest over the next two afternoons (after school). One thing I really wanted to get done in time for the home visits were homework binders. For most of my kids' homework, I send home a packet of worksheets at their appropriate level in a home work folder each day. But, for my kids who can't write, this system doesn't work. So, what I have done in the past, is make a binder of work (similar to their morning group binder) for these kids to keep at home. This is a great way for students to get extra practice and for parents to see what their child is capable of doing independently. Here are some pictures of the binder I put together last night and I will be delivering to my student's house today! This is from our morning binder. All student's have to do is move the correct month/season down into the bold box. This is the same thing, but for the weather. Just move down the correct picture for weather/temperature into the bold box. These pages make for easy clean-up...just move the picture back to it's original location! These pages are great for extra practice matching the months/days or putting them in order (I have two versions- one with pictures to match and one with blank boxes for practicing the order). These two pages are to practice identifying appropriate clothes for different seasons (and practice dressing a person). This page is also from our morning binder. It is practice in identifying colors to describe clothes the child is wearing. This is a matching page for money...coin names and value. For some pages, I use zip-loc bags as storage for the pieces. I put velcro on the bag (and on the back of the previous page) so the bag can be attached as shown in the picture below. This helps with quick clean-up/storage and prevents losing pieces! ***Update: After many requests to sell my hw binders on TPT, I have finally added this product to my store. You can check it out by clicking here. Thanks for your interest in my products and if you ever see something featured on my blog, that you would like for me to sell, please let me know!

The Mayan Apocalypse on December 21, 2012, and is just over 80 days away. Does this mean an apocalypse is coming? Will the World end on that date? How did this date end up on the Mayan Calendar? This article discusses Maya civilization, the four Mayan Calendars, and the Winter Solstice in 2012.
Running a little behind...I have so much to do and keep adding more to my plate. My goal for today is to catch up with my calendar journal by finishing the January journal entries so that I can move on to February. I'm almost there!!! At least I have the February page completed and ready for the journaling to be added. This is how I made the February page: I used Dylusions sprays for the background and date squares and Tombow markers for the basket of hearts and the background behind the heart basket. I was pleasantly surprised how the yellow Tombow marker matched the yellow color of the Dylusions and how well they blended together. The basket of flowers is a on a fold-out page. When closed, you can see the quote that was part of the January page. I planned the February page first so that the shape or cut-out would follow the shape of the hearts....then I made the quote page fit the shape. The basket is made by using a Zentangle pattern. It looks hard but is easy peasy. A little time consuming but easy just the same! Here is how you do it: Next up...MARCH! Hmmmm....I'm thinking March flowers! March is the month to plant flowers and vegetables in Florida. Maybe I will fill the page with lots of flower doodles. Until next time! Hugs!!!! Ginny

I found a great site, Mama Jenn, that had a great calendar for morning meetings. I decided to recreate one for my classroom and change a few things for my needs. (click on the Mama Jenn link for original calendar). I decided to keep the day, month and year (like Mama Jenn)- however I decided for the date to have proper dates instead of numbers. In Australia, our date goes day/month/year, so I also decided to put them in that order on my board. I downloaded a 2012 calendar from http://calendars.vertex42.com/pdfs/blank-2012-calendar-portrait-ink-saver.pdf I got these cute season and weather cards from Mrs Pancake Read below about how I use 'I wonder questions'. I have just created a deluxe version with rainbow borders and 13 new questions. You can get these in my tpt store on the following link: I wonder deluxe. Scroll down for the original version. I decided to add on a question of the week to get my students thinking, wondering and using their imaginations. I have about 45 questions and each Monday I will ask one and the students can discuss their answer with a partner. Each day during the week for a few minutes we can discuss this question, add further questions to the topic and even extend it to a writing session. I typed these questions up and printed them. To get all questions click on the following link I wonder questions Like Mama Jenn, I decided to keep how many days have we been at school because I think that is a great idea to help students practice their place value on a daily basis. Thats about it, again- not my original idea, but adapted it to my needs.

After searching through the reports of the previous primary presidency and browsing through Sugardoodle, we decided on a variety of calendars and schedules to try out. After more than a year I have some definite favorites (you know, the ones we actually use). I love two separate calendars and two different directories. These are all updated for this year and if you click on the link on the bottom of each picture, you can download the excel file and add your primary's information! Yahoo! I love reports. I love excel. I love making things lines up and look all organized and pretty. 2014 Lesson Overview This is the report I stick on the back our my binder and on the inside of our closet door. It's got every lesson for every class at a glance, along with who's in charge of Sharing Time, the month's theme and song. I love it. 2014 Birthday Overview This calendar is in 3 pages (I couldn't make it smaller and still fit everything) and has lots of important dates. We've got birthdays, entrances (into nursery), baptisms, advancements (into Young Men and Women), activities and even a section for extra notes at the bottom. Plus, we also stuck the scripture, song and theme at the top. I love this one. A lot (okay, I just love them all). Primary Class Lists I know what you're thinking, "Why in the world would you make your own class list when you can have one printed by your Ward Clerk?" Well, the answer is that you definitely don't have to, but I find it handy for a few reasons. First, I can add kids that aren't on the records of the church (part member families where the children weren't blessed) so we can visit them and let their teachers know they're out there. Second, I can make notes and attach them to the children. For example, I can let a teacher know they shouldn't visit (because the parent has asked not to be), I can make note of how to get into a basement apartment, or show relationships when the records are attached to someone who's not the parent. Or anything else. Primary Board List This list not only keeps track of everyone in primary (the second page has the presidency, chorister, pianist and all non-Sunday callings) but helps to keep track of how many kids are currently in each class, how many are attending (on average) and when each member of the primary was first called. Being organized and able to have the information I need at my fingertips takes a big load off. It helps everything run smoother and, well, just looking at the beautiful organization just makes me smile (I might be a little strange). I love all these and hope they can help out some of you also! Leah 12-3-2014: I've updated the calendars for the new 2015 themes, if you'd like to download them (or just check them out), click over to this post.
