Si vous suivez régulièrement les publications du blog, vous avez peut-être remarqué que comme beaucoup de gourmands, j’adore la cuisine généreuse et créative du chef anglo-israélien Yotam Ottolenghi… Je me suis inspirée de l’une de ses recettes pour réaliser ce cake citron - myrtilles, extraite de son livre SIMPLE qui a une place de choix dans ma bibliothèque. Comme d’habitude, je l’ai adaptée à mes goûts...

I am seriously going nuts right now. I got a new computer and apparently Apple decided to change the way you scroll. If you scroll up it goes down and down goes up. I finally figured it out and then I had to use my old computer since some of my stuff is still saved on it. Now it's like - what way am I supposed to scroll . . . how hard can it be . . . I'm so confused :) ha ha. This was the first "savory" cornbread recipe I have ever attempted. The "savory" part is the cheese and jalapeños, but I still added plenty of sweetness to this recipe with brown sugar, sugar and honey! WOW, the honey flavor is my favorite mixed with the savory ingredients. I had no idea I would love this moist cornbread as much as I did. The flavor . . . holy cow - SO GOOD. It's not spicy at all, but the jalapenos give the bread the most amazing unique flavor. Enjoy plain or serve alongside: My go-to Chili Slow Cooker White Chicken Chili 30-Minute Green Enchilada Beef Two-Ingredient BBQ Chicken Jalapeno Cheddar Honey Cornbread From: Jenn@eatcakefordinner (Printable Recipe) or (Printable with Picture) 1 1/4 c. cornmeal 3/4 c. flour 3/4 tsp. baking soda 3/4 tsp. salt 1/4 c. light brown sugar 1/4 c. sugar 1 medium jalapeno, ribbed, seeded and finey chopped 1 1/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese 1/4 c. (4 Tbl.) unsalted butter, melted 1/4 c. honey 1 c. buttermilk 2 large eggs Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking soda, salt, brown sugar, sugar, chopped jalapeno and the grated cheese; set aside. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, honey, buttermilk and eggs. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir together just until combined. Pour into a greased 8x8-inch baking pan. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Tent with a piece of foil if it gets too brown (I usually do this about 25 minutes in). Linked up to Weekend Potluck!

Lisez toute la recette de cette crème renversée avant de commencer, notamment les étapes du caramel, qu’il faut enchaîner assez rapidement ! Je préfère utiliser un moule à cake antiadhésif pour cette recette ; la cuisson et le démoulage sont plus faciles à maîtriser. Et puis cette crème caramel à partager qui arrive sur la table du dessert… Ça en jette ! ;)

My friend Michelle finally gave me her treasured gingerbread cookie recipe (which I've been hounding her for for months now). These are the chewiest, most delicious gingerbread cookies imaginable! She's brought them into work a few times now, and we all go gaga over them. And every time someone tries them for the first time, they inevitably declare how these are the best gingerbread cookies they've ever tasted. So here it is for you to try. These kinds of recipes need to be shared... Best Ever Gingerbread Cookies 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 egg 1/4 cup molasses 1 3/4 cup flour 1 Tbsp cocoa powder 2 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground ginger 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the sugars, oil, egg and molasses until well-combined. Then using a wooden spoon, mix in the remaining ingredients until all the flour is absorbed. The dough will seem dry at first, but will come together. If necessary, add 1-2 tsp of water. Use your hands to roll the dough into 1.5 inch balls, then roll the balls in coarse sugar. Place balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet (no need to flatten them, they will spread out on their own), and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes *don't overbake these cookies! Max 1 extra minute... if you must ;) Allow the cookies to cool on their baking tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!!

I love the history behind this cake. I had never heard of a "Stack Cake". Here is a little history behind the "Stack Cake". Because cakes were so expensive back in the days of old. Whenever there was a gathering like a barn dance. Families would each prepare a layer of this special ginger and molasses cake to donate to the shindig. It is said that the number of layers in a cake was a measure of the popularity of the hosting family. Sometimes there would be as many as twelve layers!

Last week I was contacted by a very talented lady named Katy. She had seen my sons Tintin bookweek costume (over at my other blog) and wanted to share the absolutely fabulous Tintin party she and her husband had created for her sons eighth birthday party. I think you will agree that this is one very lucky boy. I think you will also agree that Katy and her husband clearly thoroughly enjoyed the task they set themselves! The Tintin 'wallpaper' idea was found by Katy on Pinterest apparently from a bookstore in Bath in the UK. They were very sad to take it down and I can see why. Its looks wonderful. I love the typewriter prop. These whoopie pies with the speech bubbles are so fun. Katy also made giant speech bubbles and stuck them up around the house. Katy's husband made the chocolate cigars from Cigars of the Pharoah and these sugar cookies are to die for. Katy took inspiration from Stephanies blog for this tempting stack of favour boxes. And look what was inside each one. Lucky party guests. Old tomato soup cans were cleaned and re wrapped with Crabe Extra labels. These served as a fun decoration but were also used as a game. *see the end of this post. I love the Tintin bunting. A party just has to have bunting to be a real party as far a I'm concerned. The cake is a work of art isnt it! Katy put a Tintin spin on some traditional games: *There is an old party game known as 'The Chocolate Game', which is played by sitting in a circle, tossing a dice and if you throw a double, running to a pile of clothing and getting on as many items as you can then eating as much as you can from a block of chocolate using a knife and fork. You do this until the next person rolls a double. In the Tintin version, the children had to dress as Tintin and instead of cutting into a block of chocolate, there was a box of Red Rackham's treasure in the centre ( chocolate gold coins). * Red Rackhams treasure had been 'discovered' during a treasure hunt game where the boys had to use balloons, scrolls and a map to seek it out. * The post-it note game where you have a character stuck to you forehead and ask everybody questions to try and guess who you are. They had Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock, Thompson and Thompson, Professor Calculus to name a few. * Tossing Snowys 'bone' at the pyramid, made from the cans of Crabe Extra, to knock them down. I think this party is absolutely fantastic. My Tintin enthusiasts have already put their party orders in. Well done Katy and thank you so much for sharing!
