ike in calculus class I wasn't really paying attention when I started and before I knew it I was making enough dough for four loaves, instead of the one I had intended to make. This turned out to be fortunate because I realised the mistakes I made with my first two loaves and finally, on my fourth go, made one that I was somewhat happy with. The final result is an exercise in delicious maths-the bread is butter, sweet and light and the filling is the star with the bread encasing it and hold it together. And if you ever feel like pushing yourself and have some time on your hands or making something truly unique I urge you to give this a go-you will be rewarded with utter deliciousness.

Inspired by Giada De Laurentiis ** UPDATE: If you love an olive oil cake, I've since adapted this recipe to use olive oil in place of butter. It's also a one-bowl job: One-Bowl Orange-Ricotta Pound Cake (Simple substitute lemon zest for the orange zest and fresh lemon juice for the orange liqueur.)** Notes: Important: You must use a 9x5-inch loaf pan or 10x5-inch loaf pan or something larger for this recipe, or, two 8x4-inch loaf pans, otherwise the batter may spill over into your oven, and the cake will not bake evenly. If you only have an 8x4-inch loaf pan, I would recommend not filling it higher than 3/4 or even halfway to be safe. You can bake off the remaining batter in smaller pans or you can wait till your first loaf is done; then bake off the remaining batter in your cooled and cleaned loaf pan. I often use three mini loaf pans, because this is a great one for gifting.

When you think sourdough bread, you probably think an artisan loaf, one with a thick, chewy crust and coarse interior. These soft dinner rolls are at the opposite end of the texture spectrum. And, like a crescent roll, they're fun to unravel and enjoy bit by buttery bit!
