I recently posted (click here) a plea for information about a mystery artist and botanist called H.Isabel Adams, who produced some delightful wild flower illustrations in an old book that I'd bought. Thanks to the wonder of Twitter, and particularly to the following @HerbariumDonna @lukaslarge @SarahAMorrish @Haggewoods @mumblinglylow @botanicalmartin ... who pointed me in the right direction, I now have some biographical details. Her full name was Harriet Isabel Adams. She was born in 1863 and trained as an artist at Birmingham School of Art, before becoming a noted Arts and Crafts illustrator, although as far as I can ascertain she only published these wild flower books and a book of fairy tales. Apparently she produced some fine designs for ex libris book plates. She was a Fellow of the Linnaean Society and lived to the age of 89, dying in 1952. There don't seem to be many copies of her wild flower book available on the internet via Abe books but numerous mounted examples of the book plates are available, suggesting that many of the books were broken up for their plates. It's easy to see why - they are wonderfully stylish and elegant.

I made a new dark magic ingredient bottle for my ever growing collection of witchcraftian supplies. I thought the remains of a sunburned vampire would have to be needed in some necromancer's recipe. This was a really quick to create, prop making palette cleanser between projects. The only unique trick used on this one that I've never done before on other such bottles was scratching up the glass with heavy grit sandpaper so it felt more antique. I like the effect and will definitely do more often. Below is the label art I drew, scanned and finished in Photoshop. Feel free to use on your own prop if you want. Click to enlarge.

Made this goofy prop with leftover slime saved as a souvenir from this season's Brainsurge. The other materials are a used soda bottle, a cork and an old Halloween cupcake topper that niece Devin gave me last year. Actually Devin gave me the soda bottle as well last year, with a cute note to make something out of, but I never did. I kept safe though and will finally now find a place in my Halloween decor this October. Thought it fun to call it Voodoo Devin's in thanks to her contributions to the prop. The slime as well has a bit of connection, Devin came to visit her old uncle at work and be in the audience for a taping of Brainsurge this year. I designed the label to be intentionally less creepy and more lighthearted looking with an "old timey" grocery or pharmacy style. Feel free to use, but I'm keeping the slime recipe a closely guarded secret.

We have arrived at the 15th challenge for the Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge! I was especially excited to do this challenge as I LOVE Tim's Cabinet Cards! As many of you may know, I have already used them several times in past projects. This time we will be using them again, but also adding the extra dimension of a pocket. Here is my project: I wish I could claim these darling little girls as my own relatives, but, alas, they are Tim's Found Relatives. That is just fine with me as they are so precious and perfect for my piece! I had SO MUCH fun with this challenge! I love pulling out my stash of Tim's Idea-ology and playing around with it all until I have something I just love! I began by using a piece from my favorite Wallflower Paper Stash to go along with the Found Relatives inside the Cabinet Card. I also fussy cut some flowers and a butterfly from the same paper and added a small piece of butterfly Tissue Tape to the top left corner. I used a border from the Industrious Stickers on the edge of the photo. It looked like this: I continued to embellish the Cabinet Card by adding the word "Together" from the Alpha Parts Framed, another small piece of Wallpaper Stash behind a Book Plate, Remnant Rubs at the top of the photo and in the center of the Book Plate, a section of floral trimming on the left edge and a few extra small fussy cut flowers at the top left corner. To finish this project I created a large tag to fit into the back of the Cabinet Card. I added a large eyelet at the top center. I used Tim's Crinkle Ribbon dyed with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain to create a bow and threaded another dyed piece through the eyelet, tying it around the bow to secure it. Once again the finished piece looks like this: Now open up Tim's Compendium of Curiosities III book and study the Cabinet Card Pocket Technique on page 38. If you still don't have the book, it's not too late to order your autographed copy from Tim Holtz here. We have noticed some new artists playing along with us for the recent challenges and we are thrilled! There is so much talent out there! This challenge is sponsored by The Inspiration Emporium who are generously providing a $50.00 gift certificate. Tim and Mario have yet another fabulous prize for the winner of this challenge chosen by the Curiosity Crew. To be eligible to win, head on over to Linda Ledbetter's website to read up on the rules. It's easy and fun! I look forward to seeing all your wonderful creations! Susan

Hi everyone, Annie here, and welcome to the fourth of this month’s Destination Inspiration posts using our May recipe: Product: Any of Tim's dies with the word ‘Vintage’ in the title Colour: Stormy Sky Technique: Tissue Wrap Collage from Compendium of Curiosities (Vol. II page 38 ) Substrate: Cardstock Below is my finished make, using all of the items above, although I did have to improvise on the tissue wrap. As I did not have Tim Holtz tissue wrap in my stash I took some tissue paper and stamped on it using Tim's Paris Memoirs Stamp Set and Jet Black Archival Ink, which I heat dried. Then I was able to continue with Tim's Tissue Wrap Technique from CC2 as detailed above. Once the tissue paper was dry I chose Vintage Photo Distress Paint and Stormy Sky Distress Ink, which you can view in the background of the finished card. I then took Tim's Vintage Cabinet die and made a card. These TH Sizzix Bigz dies can cut two layers of card with ease. The folded edge of my card was placed slightly away from the left hand side of the die, enabling me to make my card shape. ( see below) I also took another die, which fits inside and cut 2 frames. I love Tim's Sizzix dies French Flight, which comprise of both stamps and dies and you can see the result above. One of the frames was inked with Stormy Sky and then layered flat on to the card. The Tissue wrap background was then placed within the arch. Both were adhered with Cosmic Shimmer Glue. Tissue tape was adhered to the second frame as you can see below. Distress Markers in Barn Door and Cracked Pistachio were applied to the butterflies. Tumbled Glass Distress Marker was used to colour in the word 'Paris'. Vintage Photo Distress Ink was then applied to all of the die cut stamped images, not forgetting to ink the edges :-) So that's the fourth May Recipe......wonder who will creating for next week!! Can you Guess ??? Until then.............................Crafty Hugs and keep inky Annie xx
