A lot of the younger couples at my church wanted to do quiet books. I know they were thinking cute felt activity books but there was no way we would have the time to finish even a page. I have made one. They take FOREVER! Searching on pinterest I came across these really cute pages from this company. Finch Family and Games. They have so many activity pages to put in a quiet book. The colored ones cost $1 to buy so I bought 5 different ones. It was hard to narrow it down to that. They are made to put in folders but I liked them in binders inside sheet protectors. I got some magnets from JoAnns and put them on the back paper under the sheet protector and then on the back of the laminated cut outs. They stick pretty well as long as you get the thicker magnets. Not the thin kind. I did a few extra things in my own binder for my girls and nephew who will be getting one of these in the mail for Christmas(shhh, don't tell him MW) I added a place to hold all the little cut outs. And then for my daughter I added a few coloring pages. I turned pictures I had taken into black and white sketch pictures and put them in a sheet protector. They she can use white board markers or white board crayons to color on top of the sheet protector and wipe off.

I was part of a quiet book swap in the fall with the BYU MBASA (MBA Spouse Association). My group made a "scripture" quiet book. We each signed up to make one page. It think there were 9 people (including me) in my group, so I made 9 of the same page. When we were all done we swapped our extra 8 pages for the other ones in our group. It was nice because I could buy my supplies in bulk for the 1 page. I think they all turned out really cute! Armor of God Joseph and the coat of many colors Liahona (the arrows spin) Tithing Noah's Ark With animal matching card game Lehi's Dream Ammon and the Lamanites with removable sheep (my page) Nephi's drought I have sewn a few of the pages together, but want to add a couple more. In an attempt to keep my children occupied with quiet activities while we are at church, travelling, etc. this week, I've been busy making these Quiet Books. My goal was to create something that could be easily added to/changed in order to keep it interesting for them and here's what I came up with: Sorry for not providing a full tutorial on this. It was one of those projects that I wanted to finish quickly but it wasn't difficult, so I'll try to be descriptive enough about what I did. For the covers of the books, I measured out my fabric (it's three layers thick) about 4 cm larger than the album refill pages on the inside (two of the polka dotted fabric, and one quilted polyester to give it a bit of added structure and heaviness). Then I sewed the layers (polka dots facing each other with quilted layer behind them) and left the bottom open. Flipped it right side out and topstitched/sewed the bottom closed. The binding is grosgrain ribbon threading through small buttonholes. For the personalized titles, I stamped ribbon with these letters using Tulip fabric markers. I used these album refill pages for the inside. This is favourite part because I can fill these pages with different activities, and the children can draw/write on them using dry erase markers. Stickers also remove and reapply easily. Here are the pages. You can see what my little ones are really into these days. With Tobias, it's all about Little Einsteins and Dot-to-Dots. I had intended for Tobias to match the letter to the animal sticker using markers, but he wanted to move them. Whatever, as long as he had fun! I got the idea for the gel filled bag from here. Anja loves animals and In the Night Garden. First thing in the morning, I couldn't wait to show Tobias & Anja their books...and they couldn't wait to use them!

I have a problem. I'm obsessed with these quiet book pages! I recruited 14 crafty ladies for aquiet book group here in St Louis in December, and LOVED the result. So much, in fact, that I organized another group with friends from college and we're exchanging those pages next month. I can't wait to add to the book! Here's what's been occupying my life, and dining room table for the last couple of weeks. A Peek-A-Boo page where you can switch out the pictures or flashcards in these vinyl pockets behind the shutters, chimney, windows, and door. For the detail stitching on the shutters, I found a quick method (since I ended up stitching horizontal lines across 40 of these bad boys): I fed each rectangle through the machine, one after another. The pic below shows how they're all in one long attached banner, and then I just trimmed the strings and detached them after. You have to be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of each line on each rectangle. I'm thinking of adding a little something to the door for a doorknob. Other than that, all 10 pages are finished! Now that these pages are complete, I can finally get back to focusing on St Patty's Day again!
