An enlightening, accessible, and highly entertaining guide to the guru-disciple relationship, the heart of Tibetan Buddhism The humility and compassionate activity of the Dalai Lama is something many people can connect with, but how can one understand the stories about some other Buddhist teachers’ unorthodox behavior? The centrality of and reliance on a guru is one of most misunderstood elements of Tibetan Buddhism—and one that is most often veiled in mystery. Because the guru can and will use whatever means it takes to wake us up, this relationship may require us to drop our most deeply held beliefs and expectations. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse addresses some of the most misunderstood aspects of this powerful relationship and gives practical advice on making the most of this precious opportunity for transformation. Through stories and classical examples, he shows how to walk the path with eyes wide open, with critical-thinking skills sharpened and equipped to analyze the guru, before taking the leap.

100% Pre-shrunk Cotton Weight: 160gsm Soft White t-shirt Available in white & black 1-colour screen-print Windhorse T-Shirts carry profound wisdom quotes and meditations from various spiritual traditions and teachers. The messages are translated into beautiful designs, screen-printed on 100% cotton, locally made t-shirts. Gautama Siddhartha, a.k.a. the Buddha, had a simple message. It was simply this: “You are all Buddhas. There is nothing you need to achieve. Just open your eyes.” Buddhism does not really teach truth but a method of realizing truth. The Buddha taught that we should believe only that which is true in the light of our own experience, that which conforms to reason and is conducive to the highest good and welfare of all beings. “Sentient beings are Buddhas, but they are temporarily obscured. Once their obscurations are removed, they are Buddha indeed.” --------- The shirts are all custom made and manufactured locally, in Cape Town South Africa. Each shirt is 100% cotton and has been pre-shrunk to ensure minimal shrinkage after you wash it. The neck has a raw edge finish and each shirt has a woven label on bottom left hem with words to live by. In addition, words of love and compassion printed on back inside label. There are two different styles: Men’s and Women’s. Windhorse women's T-shirts are custom designed and are made to be stylish and comfortable. The wide and low-ish neck collar has a distressed finish for down to earth aesthetics. Sleeves openings are cut wider, making these Windhorse women's shirts a little more comfortable and also a bit more stylish. So please check the size-guide! :D And please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Size Guide: (Inches): Small: Chest: 15.8" | Length: 25.6" | Waist: 14" | Hem: 15.8" Medium: Chest: 17.3" | Length: 26" | Waist: 16" | Hem: 17.3" Large: Chest: 18" | Length: 27.1" | Waist: 16.9" | Hem: 18" X-large: Chest: 19.3" | Length: 27.5" | Waist: 17.7" | Hem: 18.9" How to Measure: 1) Width (across the chest armpit to armpit), 2) Length (shoulder to hem) 3) Waist measurement in centimeters all the way around. 4) Hem measure from one side to the other. --------- About Windhorse Windhorse traditionally refers to what are known as Tibetan Prayer Flags. The wind horse, usually in pictorial form, occupies the center of this flag. As the prayer flags flutter in the wind, the words of wisdom and compassion printed on them are carried by the wind to all beings in all the directions. The Windhorse is an ancient symbol of the freedom and energy of our own intrinsic nature. This self-existing, intrinsic energy is called ‘Wind Horse’ (‘Lungta’ in Tibetan) and can also be thought of as the energy of basic goodness, one’s very life-force. Like the Prayer Flags, these words and their profound messages and meanings (“prayers”), are sent forth and offered indiscriminately throughout the day to all…bringing potential benefit and happiness to others and thereby, helping to ‘raise the Windhorse’. Buddhism’s Second Noble Truth talks a lot about the causes of suffering. An end to suffering is possible, but first, we must understand its root.
This is everything you need for your students to either take complete class notes on world religions or complete their own research. It includes a group project that could be completed either with a posterboard or a technological project and the group organization is flexible. I spent about a week teaching the religions and a second week on the project. Table of Contents 1. Title Page 2. Teacher Instructions 3. World Religions Map 4 - 6. World Religions Research/Note-taking Organizers 7. World Religions Review - worksheet, notes quiz, or quiz 8. Posterboard Project - Student Info 9. Technology Project - Student Info 10. Student Preference Sheet 11. Student Handout: Posterboard example 12. Sample Deadlines Schedule 13. - 15. Teacher Group Planning Grids 16. Student Research Handout 17. Suggested Resources 18. Venn Diagram - Two Circles 19. Venn Diagram - Three Circles 20. Student Participation - Evaluation From the teacher information included in the .pdf file: How I Used This Project: Initially we completed a map activity and watched short videos from United Streaming on each religion to complete the charts. We discussed these as a whole group. They completed the worksheets as homework for a grade. I envision that you could use these in that manner or form student “expert” groups to research a single religion and have them report back to their project groups. Going forward, I wanted a simple group project to tie it all together. I chose to complete a poster board project where each group had a theme (prayer, belief, etc.) and the individual group members had a religion. As much as possible, I honored their choices when I created the groups. This could easily be done as a technology project, but in my already technology heavy classroom, I wanted the students to interact with each other face to face when they put it together. They completed their individual work in a word processing program, printed it out and brought it to class to assemble. I also wanted to have them pull it all together so within their groups, after the project was complete, they gave a short oral presentation of their work and paired off in their groups to create a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast their findings. I also included the deadlines schedule that we used in my class; you will want to adapt to meet your own needs. I understand it’s not a true “Jigsaw” project the way I have done it, but it easily could be adapted that way. Information on a Jigsaw cooperative learning can be found at the link below. I also incorporated some ideas from the post “Taking the Struggle Out of Group Work.” I liked the ideas of using the phrasing “team” and to provide participation points and allow each student to “award” those points as contributions warrant. The post is quick, easy read and worth considering. Relevant links are included.

Major World Religions Card Sort Activity with Graphic Organizer by Miss Middle School Teacher This is a great introductory activity to the 5 major world religions. Students complete an anticipatory set card sort (trying to correctly place different characteristics of each of the 5 religions under the correct category) and finish by checking their work through the completion of a graphic organizer that correctly identifies those characteristics. We always have a discussion regarding observations we've made, similarities and differences we've noted, and questions we still have.We also fill out a 3-way venn diagram, choosing to compare any 3 of the 5 religions we've just discussed. This includes: 5 Major World religions graphic organizer (1 teacher key fully filled out and 1 partially filled out organizer for students to fill in the blanks), copy of 30 cards to sort with various information on the 5 major religions, and a copy of the student venn diagram. How I use the cards: Before we fill out the graphic organizer together as a class and have a discussion comparing the 5 belief systems, I have 6-7 sets of these cards printed on card stock and laminated. I put students into groups of 3-4 and ask them if they can sort the cards according to the beliefs/characteristics of the 5 major world religions (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism). It’s a great anticipatory set for students and gives them an opportunity to read through and discuss the information first. It really promotes a strong class discussion after. I then have them leave their sorted cards out on their tables/desks. I hand out the graphic organizer and we fill out the information together while students check for accuracy. It’s a great way for them to assess their prior knowledge. When discussing the religions, we look for similarities and differences between them. Sometimes we fill out a venn diagram (choosing 3 religions to compare). I am sure to note to students that this is not all encompassing and only provides a glimpse of the beliefs and tenants of each of these faiths.
