A blackwork pattern by ShirleyStitcher of three pears for you to stitch. This embroidery uses some of the many traditional blackwork motifs to create an elegant composition of three pears. It uses four different blackwork patterns, carefully chosen to suit the arrangement of the pears. The design uses three different thicknesses of thread on Aida 18 fabric to achieve a 3D effect to the finished picture. It can also be worked on an evenweave linen if you prefer. A beautiful piece of textile art for you to reproduce. Clear diagrams of the motifs as well as photographs of the actual stitches. This is not presented as a grid as it is actually easier for you to place the motifs in the outline design yourself. The original drawing was made at an art workshop considering composition. I have since translated the original drawing into a painting and a coloured freestyle embroidery as well as this pleasing blackwork design. For the longest time I avoided counted thread techniques. I don't know if I was afraid of their constraints or what it was. I totally underestimated how much fun they are. My intense attention to detail loves the constraints of these techniques. It is so much fun having the patterns and then figuring out how to manipulate them. When I did my RSN Canvaswork piece, I fell in love with the texture of the counted technique and the larger scale of the stitches and threads used. For this module, we had to do samples experimenting with blackwork, pattern darning and canvaswork techniques. Blackwork Lily: Ground: linen Threads: silk 6-strand embroidery floss, super fine silk I'm pretty happy with this piece. I still need to work on getting my shading better but for the first try at a motif, I was pretty happy. It's only about 5"x7". I think I would like to try this again but at a larger scale to allow more room for shading. New old posts on hand embroidery essentials :) As I mentioned before, I'm planning to update some old posts because they are too outdated. I started with the essentials of starting and ending thread, so here are the posts for you to check out: 5 ways to start thread in hand embroidery How to finish thread in hand embroidery I didn't just update the pictures, but also added some new information and tips and cut out what the “me today” decided was insignificant. That's why I'm informing you here. Because some of the added tips might be of interest to you. For instance, previously there were just 3 ways of starting thread, but now there are 5. One of which is what I came up with myself in the time that passed since the post was published. As we gain more experience, we also gain more practical knowledge. I noticed that I too, invented in the recent time some new ways if starting and finishing thread. These methods aren't obvious for a beginner, because well, they aren't really shared on the net and in the books. At least, I have never come across that. But I also didn't want to make a new post about that, so I just updated the old ones, haha. So make sure to check them out! :) And the title picture here is a sneak peek to another version of a flower pattern from Amelia designs. Like I said, this one will feel a bit stricter and serious, but still just as charming. Love the combination of golden yellows with violet. Yummy! Look forward to it!
