My tatted cotter pin link tutorial is available as a free PDF. Click HERE to download the 2 page file. I hope you'll have fun with this technique! It's another idea to play with. My report on wearing the bracelet for awhile: Using a tatted ring as a toggle loop didn't work. The toggle bar fell out. So, I added a proper metal toggle clasp, which does work well. The tatting tends to lengthen with wearing, so for a bracelet make it just a little bit shorter than needed. It will stretch to a comfortable size. The tatted links hold their shape surprisingly well, considering that they're only fiber! My bracelet after wearing, with the finished clasp. Another tatted cotter pin bracelet.
I want to share a free tatting pattern, which I adapted from one of Priscilla Tatting Book No. 3's vintage patterns. It reminded me of puffy fluffy clouds, so I named it "Puffy Fluffy" Click on the picture and save it to see the full-size.

Well, I finally got around to taking photographs of my technique for adding a new thread when needle tatting. Nothing I hate worse than knots when you don't actually need them! I hope this helps someone esle out there who hates extra knots and is struggling with how to add new thread. I've used very large thread here so it photographs better, but I've used this method with thread as fine as sewing thread (size 120) Let me know if this works for you and how you like it. ;-)

This is what I like with tatting: thre is always something to discover, to test, to try. It is not only the calming effect. How many times did I curse when I did a mistake I could not undo?? The word would be challenging. And rewarding. You know, that moment when you make the last double stich and your eyes are searching for the scissors? And then the little pice of some centimeters square (your worked for it some good 40 mins if not longer) lays in your hand and you say to your self: "Yup! I made it!" So back to the bracelet I posted yesterday in Facebook... I played this time with a very basic edging, (what else?). Experimenting, tweaking, testing threads... It gave this: the white one were the first attemps, the black one has no picots for the exterior rings... It looks nicer, in my eyes. Both done in poliester thread Brildor 15. Then I thought, what would it be if I make it in 2 colors? I had, after all, a rest of some silver thread already on my bobbin (strand of 3) so I used as second color a thread from Brildor, the 40, strand of 3. Since the threads have different consistency, they behave differently and the effect surprised me: the lace has the stiffness I need and the white waves give a nice line. The result : I worked it with 2 shuttles. The pattern is easy to follow: All rings are 6-5-6, done with the silver metallic thread. All chains: 14, except the ends, white thread. Ring : 6-5-6, close, turn work Chain 14, turn work Ring 6 + 5 - 6, close, do not turn work Ring: 11 - 6, close, turn work Chain: 14, turn work... The only thing you have to take care of is to thake the right color for each element you will do. And, of course, not to rush, in order the make a neat colour transition. In my piece, I tried to carefully place the silver thread on the right side or on the wrong side of the lace when I started the next element. When you reached the needed lenght, then you use the following pattern: Chain 14 - 3 turn work Ring 6 + 6 (join to the join picot from the braid). Ring: 3 + 14 - 3, do not turn work Chain 3 +14. Of course, you may consider starting from the small 6-6 ring. Like this you can finish the lace with the 3+ 14 + 3 ring and hide the thread you will not need anymore. This would be it. Easy pattern for a newby... Just enjoy if you decide to work it and please let me know if there is something to improve.

I made colorful bracelets with simple geometric pattern. I like them so I made a free pattern:) Would you like to try it? You will need one or two colors of thread and toho beads. There will be needed some paperclips. You can work with two shuttles or just one. I made my bracelets with one shuttles, but it needed to twist thread during tatting middle false rings. Wykonałam kolorowe bransoletki wg prostego geometrycznego wzoru.
What could be a more special gift than a beautiful and delicate tatted cross? A display of many beautiful models from talented designers.

Well, this lesson was all about Cloverleafs or as some call them Trefoils...depending on the size of the Rings I guess. I call them all Cloverleafs, myself...lol 3 Rings all done, one right after another in a group, whatever you want to call them. We tried making the Rings the same size and then making the 1st and 3rd Ring smaller than the 2nd Ring. How does that affect the joining Chain? Very interesting lesson! Y'all ready for another one of my FREE Crochet Patterns? lol Well, this is a reall cutey and real fast and easy too. A self-closing mock ring (often abbreviated as SCMR) is actually a tatted chain with a loop left at the beginning. To add a bead in the center, tat to reach halfway around the bead, then slip the bead onto the loop. Here I've put the bead onto a small crochet hook and I'll use the hook to pull the loop through the bead, but there are other ways to do it, too. After the bead is placed onto the loop of thread, put the shuttle though the loop. A trick I like to use is to leave a paper clip in as a space saver, to make the final join easier. The paper clip is hanging between the start of the tatting and the bead, so it's sort of like holding a small picot temporarily. Continue by tightening the core (shuttle thread) around the bead. Here the bead is in place. Continue tatting the rest of the way around the bead. Now the paper clip is removed, showing the space it had been saving. This is where the crochet hook is inserted to pull the shuttle thread through. Finish with a lock join. Bead in center of completed mock ring. This is a technique I use often in my tatted jewelry. The pattern for the above example uses one shuttle and ball thread. Supplies: size 20 Lizbeth thread, an 8mm round bead, and 24 size 11 seed beads. (To use a different size thread or beads, the stitch counts will need to be adjusted to fit). String the 24 seed beads onto the ball thread, then wind just a small amount of thread onto the shuttle. The beads remain on the ball thread. SCMR 2, (bead picot with 3 beads, 2-2) 3 times, bead picot with 3 beads, 2. Place the round bead onto the loop that was left at the beginning, put the shuttle through the loop, and tighten around bead. Continue the SCMR with a picot at the end of the round bead, 2, (bead picot with 3 beads, 2-2) 3 times, bead picot with 3 beads, 2. Tighten, then lock join to base of round bead. This is how much I have shown in the photos. I hope this will give you an idea that you will enjoy using.
