Ideal for topiaries, Baby Gem Boxwood is a garden designer's dream.
I'm so very excited to share today's real wedding with you. I LOVE a back garden wedding where a couple have the opportunity to choose every little detail and make their
Naturally architectural, Buxus sempervirens 'Dee Runk' (Boxwood) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub of elegant columnar habit with a soft and lush foliage of ovate, lustrous leaves. Its deep green foliage has shown good resistance to boxwood blight. Growing at a fast to medium rate, 3-6 in. per year (7-15 cm), this upright Boxwood is a real exclamation point in the garden, providing color year-round, as well as form, texture and contrast. Requiring little to no pruning, it is perfect as a specimen or for a narrow hedge. Great for small gardens.
Somewhere in the world, hopefully close to you, it’s spring and sunny. You likely are itching to get outside and spruce up your yard. If you’ve got a
One thing that my friends, family and house could tell you is this: I have quite a penchant for topiaries. I don't discriminate - real or artificial - I love them all. While the longest lifespan has only been about a year, they are always worth the effort. I will re-plant it, spray it with insect spray, douse it with soapy water, add fertilizer - or any combination of the above. The nice lady at the nursery told me to bring it into the shower with me once a month. (Don't judge me, I actually did it...) The first time I did, the poor thing's leaves drooped even worse than ever; it never did fully recover. I think it died of a mixture of fright and disgust. The next three pictures are of three of the five topiaries that are "lucky" enough to reside in my home. This little guy has had the pleasure of being a guest at Casa del Preppy Empty Nester for a mere 3 weeks... that's why he looks so great (and yes, I do personify my plants). He has no clue about my reputation in the topiary circle. Every time I walk past him, I give him a compliment and a thumbs up. Hopefully, this will work. The two on the left were my big finds at Homegoods. I literally got emotional and developed heart palpitations when I found them. The two adorable ones on the right were a birthday present from Sista last year. Lori designed the fireplace vignette. The Mister ordered these from Restoration Hardware as a surprise for me. I love them and the best part: I can't kill them! Pinterest Love these. They don't look like they would die on me, either. An herb/topiary garden. Could anything be sweeter? Elan Flowers This looks like the topiary that I have. Maybe if I put pretty flowers and candles around him, he will like me better. Salt Harbor Designs Simple elegance. Accent the party Cute idea. Pinterest Does the kitchen come with the topiaries? SOLD! The Autocrat Cute idea. Pinterest What time is it? Time to trim the clock. Pinterest Wow!! Pinterest This is me in my next life as an angel in topiary heaven. At least I'll have better hair - and bigger assets... Hope your Hump Day is a happy one!

Yesterday in a little break-from-winter look at garden styles we took a look at modern gardens. Now we’re going in what you would think is the opposite direction, to formal gardens, but really these two styles share more in common than you might think. F O R M A L G A R D E N S Even if you’re […]
Beautiful and fun doesn’t start to describe the splendor at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I thought going there would be sortof like walking through a park…it’s not. It’s way not. That would be like comparing Stefan Urquelle to Steve Urkel. Not the same. My sister agreed to go with me last minute. She told me later that this was ... Read More about Atlanta Botanical Gardens

The gardens of Hautefort have been designed in the French style, and give an important place to the art of topiary : sculpted boxwood forming real, natural labyrinths. "Hautefort" wallcovering is a jacquard that symbolises the aerial view of the gardens : in two colours, the raffia and cotton yarns intertwine to create a sophisticated geometric design in which we long to lose our way.

On Sunday I turned a wild hair and decided to lay a reclaimed brick patio. It took about ten hours, and three years, because we installed the MOT base shortly after our building work completed in spring 2016 and then left it sitting there looking hideous for months and months and months.
