The final Boeing 720 flight took place in 2010.
Boeing 720 used by the Bee gees for their Spirits Having Flown Tour. Scanned from an original slide in my collection but not my shot
Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 03-Oct-15. Named: "Jet Clipper Balboa" In 1970, the runway at Kingston, Jamaica, wasn't long enough or wide enough to take Pan-Am's new Boeing 747's, so they terminated at Montego Bay. This Boeing 720 was based at Kingston and operated daily shuttle services between Kingston and Montego Bay to connect with the Boeing 747's. I arrived in Kingston in Dec-70 and left again in Jan-71 on this aircraft. Originally delivered to Lufthansa as D-ABOM** in Jun-61, the aircraft was sold to Pan American World Airways in Jan-66 as N785PA. In Apr-73 Pan-Am sold it to Ariana Afghan Airlines as YA-HBA. It was operated by Ariana for 7 years until they sold to it International Air Leases in Mar-80 when it became N3746E. It was wet-leased, short-term, to Bergin Aviation, Turkey, between May/Jul-80. In Oct-80 IAL sold it to Aerotal Colombia as HK-2558. It was retired and stored at Miami, FL, USA, in Jul-83 and broken up there in 1984. ** The registration D-ABOM has been re-used and is currently (Aug-18) on a Condor Flugdienst B757-330/W.
Photographed by my late dad, Norman D. Zahn. Western Airlines was later acquired by Delta in the 1980s.
The shortened 707 derivative didn't follow Boeing's iconic 7X7 naming scheme.
A great American Airlines promotional video about the Boeing 720, the original fast short range jet airliner from the Seattle manufacturer.
