The Deimel Bluestar is in some ways an extension of the Firestar, pulling inspiration from classic offset designs and expanding on those themes with a more expansive, modern-day approach to guitar building and design. This model marries some of our favorite concepts of electric guitar into one instrument, all while exuding its own powerful personality that is anything but derivative. Bluestar No. 023 is for the wood lover. Seeing these exquisite sets of tonewoods in their most natural state and experiencing their inherent resonant properties in a semi-hollow build is such a joy. The connection between player and instrument couldn't be more organic, and Deimel made sure to further solidify that quality with some excellent pickups and circuitry. A pair of handwound P90 pickups in raw nickel covers provide great balance and warmth in the neck position with more sizzle and attack in the bridge pickup. They do a fantastic job of translating the acoustic properties of the guitar into an equally dynamic and woody response that covers an impressive range of tones. A trio of slider switches on the treble side cutaway offer up some tonal tweaks that add some versatility and some of more exploratory features that are a signature of Deimel's builds. The top switch controls the onboard piezo body disc accentuates the guitar's acoustic properties into an electrified state - from subtle pseudo-resonator like sounds to howling feedback under gain, it adds a unique tonal layer to the instrument you're unlikely to find elsewhere. The middle and lower sliders focus more on the EQ manipulation of the instrument. The former is a series/parallel switch, which shifts allows for both a thicker, meatier tone to a brighter, leaner tone between the two settings. The latter is a bass cut, which is especially effective in a dense live or recording mix. It's also great for funk and R&B tones, especially with both pickups engaged! If you've handled the likes of a Huber, Ronin, or Koll, the playability will feel right at home. These guitars are incredibly well dialed-in, with expert fretwork and neck shaping along with a truly remarkable level of fit and finish. Top shelf hardware which includes Deimel's own Vibratone bridge and high quality electronics (CTS, Bourns) also help maintain that high level of playing experience and function. No stone is left unturned with these guitars. Even with an electric inventory as diverse and expansive as ours, Deimels stand in rarified air as perhaps the most forward-thinking and artisanal. If you can imagine it, Deimel can build it. This guitar is one of many ways they continue to prove that statement.
