Ok...bem sei que este assunto é velhinho...a mídia já explorou até não poder mais...sem falar dos 636,55 blogs aqui, ali, e acolá...mas, como é o meu mês...amo flores...(inclusive já falei sobre a exposição de vasos de flores na Espanha), e estamos com a companhia da "Prima Vera", nada melhor que relembrar um pouquinho. A última papoula foi plantada na terça-feira (11 de Novembro de 2014). A última, a número 888.246. Cada uma das papoulas de cerâmica representa um soldado britânico, ou originário das antigas colônias do império, morto durante a I Guerra Mundial, e estão dispostas em redor da Torre de Londres. 11 de Novembro, data da assinatura do armistício em 1918, foi o dia em que se completou a instalação Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, criada pelo artista plástico Paul Cummins com o cenógrafo Tom Piper para homenagear os homens caídos em combate na primeira grande guerra do século XX. O trabalho foi iniciado a 17 de Julho e foi revelado ao público a 5 de Agosto, dia que, há cem anos, assinalou a entrada do Reino Unido no conflito. A partir dessa data, com o auxílio de cerca de 17.500 voluntários, a relva em redor da Torre de Londres começou a cobrir-se do vermelho das papoulas criadas por 300 artesãos numa fábrica de cerâmica no Derbyshire. Em entrevista ao Art Newspaper, Paul Cummins justificou o recurso ao trabalho manual pela vontade de que “cada flor fosse única, cada uma representando um soldado”. Dia 12 de Novembro, as papoulas foram colhidas e vendidas, com os lucros a reverterem para instituições de caridade ligadas ao exército. Duas componentes da instalação, Wave, composta por 3200 papoulas no valor de 75 mil libras (96 mil euros), e Weeping window, um conjunto de duas mil papoulas, avaliada em 50 mil libras (64 mil euros), serão preservadas, “na esperança de encontrar um comprador com possibilidade de as colocar em exposição pública”, escreve o Arts Newspaper. O título Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, com a tradução livre “Sangue varreu terras e mares de vermelho”, foi retirado do poema de um soldado anônimo onde era relatado o horror da Grande Guerra. Depois de se deparar com os versos, Paul Cummins decidiu iniciar “um projecto baseado na visualização dos soldados que morreram, dado parecer um número tão imenso e incompreensível”. A entrada era gratuita, não era preciso entrar no prédio. Bastava caminhar em volta e se maravilhar com a vista. Muitas pessoas usam papoulas na lapela dos casacos para homenagear os soldados mortos nas guerras. As papoulas não são vendidas, mas doadas. A exposição da instalação de papoulas (ou poppy, como são chamadas por lá) terminou em 11 de Novembro, onde acontecera várias cerimônias em homenagem aos soldados mortos. Todas as florzinhas de cerâmicas foram vendidas e não é mais possível levar nenhuma para casa...buáá´!
