Teaching my children to read is one of my favorite parts about homeschooling. I love the look of joy and amazement on their little faces when they sound out their first word and read that
I saw these muffins awhile ago at An Edible Mosaic. I wasn't sure about the flavour combination but I absolutely loved Faith's pictures so I had pinned it right away. Everything I have tried over at An Edible Mosaic has turned out fantastic. Most recently I had made Saffron Rice with Golden Raisins and Pine Nuts. I have never been a big fan of coconut but lately I have been really enjoying it. These muffins were really good....they were so yummy and all the flavours worked so well together. I made a couple of changes to them. One of them was to leave out the coconut milk but this really was more of a mistake. After I had baked them I looked at the recipe and realized I had forgotten to add it. I have made 3 batches in the past week. Hasan loved them so much he had two in one sitting and he does not like kiwi at all! He kept asking what was in them and I avoided telling him until he was done. Hope you will give these a try! Kiwi, Coconut, and Lime Muffins Adapted from An Edible Mosaic Yield 9-10 muffins Note: Last two times came out very flat at the top. Last time used oil instead of coconut oil. 1 1/4 all-purpose flour 1 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut 3 tbsp coconut oil, room temperature 3/4 cup sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla bean paste Halal Vanilla Powder or Extract 2 kiwi, peeled and pureed zest of one lime extra shredded coconut for topping Preheat oven to 400 F. Line a muffin tray with 10 liners. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and coconut. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachement. Cream together coconut oil and sugar. Scrape down the bowl and add the egg. Mix until light and fluffy. Add the kiwi puree to a measuring cup and add enough water to make 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. Add the kiwi/water mixture, vanilla and lime zest to the mixer bowl. Stir until combined. Add in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fill prepared muffin tray and sprinkle each with some coconut. Bake for 14-16 minutes. Linking up here.

While I have not had the chance yet to meet Riel Nason in person, I have seen one of her quilts in real life - at Quilt Canada - and it was fantastic. Riel is creative and playful in her designs, and reading about them on her blog - The Q and the U - has always made me smile. Riel is a Canadian, living in a small town on Canada's east coast in New Brunswick. When Riel asked me if I would share a review of her new book, Modern Selvage Quilting - I jumped at the chance. Riel is not just a quilter, she is also a published fiction author too. Her quilting book is full of her own voice and her own stories. It is a pleasure to read and funny too. All the photos in this post are from the book. Riel points out that selvages are just another kind of fabric scrap. Modern Selvage Quilting provides you with advice on how to save your selvages and how to select and use them in projects. Riel provides three different methods for effectively piecing the selvages and each is clever, fully illustrated and easy to execute. There are instructions for several projects in the book as well, from pincushions to pillows to placemats to quilts. Riel shares many tips as well, all of which focus on using selvages easily and effectively. While Riel gave me a copy of her book for this review, I would have bought my own copy if she had not. If you are interested in selvage quilting, this is the book to get. Now I have to admit to not saving many selvages, although I have a few jars of the prettiest ones. But, armed with this new book, I might just have to change my practices - the projects are just so appealing. Riel asked me which quilt I would make if I had an unlimited supply of selvages. I have to say that I am in love with that giant star and it might just be the push I need to save my selvages. As part of the blog hop introducing Modern Selvage Quilting, I get to give away one copy of the book. If the winner is in the U.S.A. they will get a hard copy and if the winner is from the rest of the world they will receive an e-copy. To win, leave me one comment letting me know if you save your selvages or might start doing so and what you have or plan to make with them. The give away will be open to enter until 10 pm MDT on May 22 and I will draw a winner randomly after that. Please, please, if you want to win a copy of this lovely book, make sure that I can find you. If you are not sure that your email is connected to your comments, put it in the comment too, or your instagram handle or your blog location. If I can't find the winner I will draw again. You should check out the rest of the book reviews on the blog hop: May 10 Riel at C&T Publishing Blog May 11 Cindy at Live a Colorful Life May 12 Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl May 13 Diane at Butterfly Threads Quilting May 16 Krista at Poppyprint May 17 Casey at The Studiolo May 18 Leanne at She Can Quilt May 19 Sandy at Upstairs Hobby Room May 20 Mel at The Quilting Room with Mel May 21 Riel at The Q and the U Best, Leanne

*Disclosure: I was given a copy of Quiet Book Patterns: 25 Easy-to-Make Activities for Your Children for the purposes of this review. The opinions that I express are definitely my own. :) Hey everyone! Today is a very exciting day because it is the day of the Quiet Book Blog's first giveaway! A little while ago I was contacted by Amy Pincock from the popular craft blog Serving Pink Lemonade. She has recently published a book of quiet book patterns and instructions: Quiet Book Patterns: 25 Easy-to-Make Activities for Your Children. Not only is this book stinkin' cute, it's full of instructions of how to make a quiet book, has lots of pictures, instructions, and templates for twenty-five different pages, and comes with a CD with printable quiet book templates. (You can also access the templates online once you've purchased the book.) To try out the book I made two of the different pages: the "sock match" page and the "season tree" page. They were both pages that I've been wanting to make for a long time, but both seemed too complex for me to try making them. This book really simplified the process and made making them easy! Here's my sock match page: I really like how it turned out. I personalized it a little bit - did a tan hamper instead of gray, added a heart to the red sock - but for the huge majority of it just followed the template and instructions exactly. I used velcro to attach the socks with their partners, and instead of sewing the velcro on I just hot-glued it. Just as effective, and easier and faster. I was all about easy when making these pages. And here's my season tree page! I looove this page. Ever since I first saw it on Amy's blog, waaay back when I was gathering ideas for my first quiet book, I've wanted to make one. I just think it's such a fun page. But, like the sock page, I was intimidated by how hard it looked to make. Especially the tree trunk and branches - I pictured sewing that on and it was like, no way. Again, the book made this page so much easier. It still took a while to make - I had to cut out all the pieces and attach them together - but with the instructions on interfacing and the templates I could just print, it was a lot better than I was expecting. Here's the pocket for all the extra leaves: I used velcro again because it's easier for my daughter to use than snaps. I sewed the velcro on to the flowers and autumn leaves before it occurred to me I could just hot glue it on (I made this page before the sock one), so that's what I did for the rest of the leaves. Hot gluing from the start would have saved me a lot of time. I really like the way it turned out! I really like Amy's pattern book. It's both really cute and very useful. It would be a great starting point for someone who's never made a quiet book before; it starts on square one and tells you where to begin. It's also great for people who have made quiet books before (as I can testify); it helped me tackle some pages I've been wanting to make but thought would be too difficult. And I think it would be a great gift; I can think of a couple people I know who might be getting one from me in the future. To top it all off, it's super cheap. To find Amy's quiet book pattern book on Amazon, click here: Quiet Book Patterns: 25 Easy-to-Make Activities for Your Children (CD Included). So here's the super fun part for you: Amy is giving away a copy of her book to one Quiet Book Blog reader! The giveaway is open from today, March 10, and will close at midnight (Pacific Standard Time) on Monday, March 17. Be sure to enter every way you can, and you might win this book! Good luck! :D Quiet Book Patterns Book Giveaway

You will have to download your files via desktop. ••••••••••••••••••••••••• FAQ 1. Can I give away/use as lead magnet/sell the planners? Yes, but only in a finalized version such as PDF, PNG, or JPG, and after making changes to the design - you may NOT share the Canva link with anyone. 2. Am I allowed to sell these templates as is, without changing the design? No. If you want to sell these planners, you'll need to make major changes to the design. This can include but is not limited to font changes, colors, elements, styles, layouts, including some sheets of your own, replacing some sheets with others you have designed/bought, etc. Take note that the design cannot be copyrighted by you, even after making major changes, as the original design is still my own and is used as a tool to create sellable planners. 3. Am I allowed to sell the Canva link to the template, so that others can edit it? No, because it is copyrighted and the original design of the templates and their layouts are entirely my own. 4. Do you provide refunds or exchanges? Because of the nature of these digital products, they cannot be refunded or exchanged after purchase. Please read the description, view the images, and/or contact me via Etsy if you have questions, before making a purchase you are unsure of. ••••••••••••••••••••••••• ©TWCprintables

Recipe adapted from Gluten-Free Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and used with permission ©2014, Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François Makes eight ½-pound loaves. The recipe is easily doubled or halved. This beautiful and crispy loaf is the symbol of France. Our gluten-free version is just as gorgeous and delicious. We brush the top of the loaf with egg white wash to create a glossy crust, but in a pinch, water will do.
