This tree was one of my first subjects when I first bought my DSLR last year. After having purchased a ND1000 filter, I wanted to revisit it, contrasting stark shapes against blurred clouds. This is a 30 second exposure at midday, shooting almost straight upwards, converted into mono in several stages to preserve and contrast tones. A small aperture (F18) permitted both sufficient DoF and the long exposure. I spent rather a long time lying on my back shooting many of these. I wanted to combine the path of the clouds and sufficient direct sunshine to light the side of the tree. Some dodging and burning was used to further enhance this effect.

This is a haunting poem about the past.
