Japanese bracelet of authentic Cloisonné beads, art of embossed chiselling, belonging to an ancient necklace, dating back to the 19th century. MEASURES Circumference: 18cm Stone caliber: 4/8 mm High quality elastic used in jewelry. The ancient beads are strung again and combined with modern spacers. Signs of wear consistent with the age and use of the ancient stones. Cloisonné, also called Byzantium lustre, is a technique of artistic enamel decoration, in which thin threads (filigrees) or strips or small metal partitions (usually copper), cells or alveoli (called cloisons in French), are welded or glued to a support slab of the work to be built; subsequently, in the areas raised by the metal, enamel is poured, thus obtaining a sort of mosaic whose tiles are exactly circumscribed by the metal strips. This technique is of the "additive" type of enamel material on metal, and is therefore not to be confused with the enamel decoration called champlevé, which, as the French name itself literally says (campo levava) is instead subtractive; in fact, in this last technique, the initial procedure is similar, but the alveoli where the enamel is housed are not added, but rather smoothed by hand and then finished.

The Comnenus mosaics date from 1122. The Virgin Mary is standing in the middle, depicted, as usual in Byzantine art, in a dark blue gown. She holds the child Christ on her lap. He gives his blessing with his right hand while holding a scroll in his left hand. The Hagia Sophia was the largest and most admired cathedral in Christianity for almost a thousand years. The current building was originally constructed between 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. The main dome collapsed during the earthquake of 558. It was rebuilt immediately, giving the building its current interior height of 55.6 meters (182 feet). The church was rededicated in 562. Over time, the Hagia Sophia suffered damage due to earthquakes, war, and neglect, and it was restored periodically. The famous mosaics were plastered over after the Ottoman conquest of 1453 and only recovered in the 20th century.
The Basilissa Eusebestatē Augusta Theodora, Empress of the Romans 527-548, Saint. Mosaic in the Basilica di San Vitale, Ravenna. Often, even in the theater, in the sight of all the people, she removed her costume and stood nude in their midst, except for a girdle about the groin: not that she was abashed at revealing that, too, to the audience, but because there was a law against appearing altogether naked on the stage, without at least this much of a fig-leaf. Covered thus with a ribbon, she would sink down to the stage floor and recline on her back. Slaves to whom the duty was entrusted would then scatter grains of barley from above into the calyx of this passion flower, whence geese, trained for the purpose, would next pick the grains one by one with their bills and eat.
