My youngest son was invited to a Lego Party the other week. It wasn't hard for me to work out what kind of card to make the 7 year old. I know there are a lot of these types of cards out there and this is my version. Hope you like it. So for this card I used Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight and Gumball Green (I'll be sad when this colour goes). I used the Dotted Embossing folder from the Sale-a-Brations Collection as a base plate. The blocks were punched out using the 1" Square Punch and the circle punch from the Itty Bitty pack. I made two layers of circles to give dimension and then I used the white Gel Pen to add highlights and more dimension. I just glued the dots on using a liquid glue which makes it easier to centre them against each other by moving them around till they look right. The Birthday Boy absolutely loved it and I was pretty pleased too. So easy and fairly quick to make as well.

This was a busy month in the card making department as we have six boy birthdays in our family. My three grandsons turned 11, my son's girlfriend's son turned 8 and two great nephews also were in the mix. I used the new stamp set Level Complete for all the cards in this post. The above cards were the cards I made for the grandsons. I found inspiration for my cards from Pinterest. First up was Cade. This one was pretty much a "case" on the outside. I just added the number 11 with our Alphabet A La Mode Dies. Belly band slides off. I added the little pop up trophy after I already had it signed (because his brothers had pop ups in theirs and well you know how that goes.) It was a good place to put some money. Reid's card again a pretty much "case" from Pinterest. I added stars and the 11 to outside. The dies used were from the Nested Essential Die Set. Inside I added a popup and stuck some money behind it also. Popups are so easy to make and really add an element of surprise to a card. Jace's card inspired by a stamp set (from a different company.) He always loves to fiddle with things so I added some of our retired 1/8" Black Cord. I also embossed the red part to give it texture using one of the folders from the Online Exclusive Basic 3D Embossing folder set. Inside of Jace's card has a little popup trophy as well. I added a few stars to one side to cover up the ink mark made on accident, oops! But they covered the boo-boos up nicely don't you think? Jackson's card, I love all the layers. yup you guess it another Pinterest idea. Don't you just love Pinterest? and a popup trophy for him as well. Great place to put money. This last two are gift / money holders for my great nephews. Super easy to make. I chose to stick some money in theirs. I hope you have enjoyed looking at the cards. I will add that I put the regular cards in the clear envelopes and taped them to the outside of their Birthday presents. They loved that they could see them ahead of time. Hello there! I wanted to pop in quick and share the birthday card I made for Gabe's 11th birthday-yes, 11th! Doesn't seem possible! I've been on several Pokemon hunts with him, so I thought he'd appreciate this:) I started with a Basic Black base, which I folded in half, and ran it through the Big Shot using the retired Circles Framelits. The dies in the current Layering Circles Framelits weren't big enough. I then cut a smaller circle out of Real Red and Whisper White Cardstock. I cut them in half and attached them to the base with Liquid Tombow. I then added a strip of Basic Black Cardstock over the seam. I cut out 2 more circles out of Basic Black and Whisper White Cardstock and layered them over the strip. I used the Large Numbers Framelits to cut out the '11' and attached the one on the circles with Liquid Tombow, and the other with Glue Dots, so they'd lay evenly. The sentiment is from the SAB set Tasty Trucks, using Memento Black ink. I used Daffodil Delight Cardstock, and used one of the dies from the circles framelits to cut out Pikachu's head. I used the Pyramid Pals Thinlits to cut out his ears and nose. I had to trim down his ears a bit because they were too big. I used the retired 1/4" Handheld Circle Punch for his eyes and cheeks. I used the current 1/8" Handheld Circle Punch for the white's of his eyes. I'm so mad! I forgot to color the tips of his ears black. That's what I get for waiting til the last minute to make his card:( Oh well, he probably got over it when he found the $50 inside:( ) Stop back tomorrow for another fun birthday card. I've been working on valentines and wanted to make something new and fun for a young recipient. Months ago--maybe even a year or two (I cannot remember)--I saw a puppy card where you pull the tongue and the ears flip up. So, this morning, after searching the internet, I saw a couple of options. Here's the pattern I found from mmmcrafts. Although I changed the size up a little but the pattern is basically the same. Out of respect for the original artist, please refer to the above link for the pattern. I did add the spot around the eye, made it into a valentine card, and changed the way the eyes look--all while using CTMH colors, of course. (I always like using their matching inks and cardstocks.) Cocoa, Cashmere, Champagne, Pacifica, and Ruby colors were used on this card. I also mounted the entire thing on white cardstock. I prefer the Georgie Pacific cardstock from Walmart. It's nice and thick and is easy on the pocketbook. :-) This is what the card front looks like when you pull on the tongue. The action of pulling the tongue makes the ears flip up and slightly in. Cute, yes? :-) The eyes were a new idea I came up with. They were made using two stamps using Cocoa and Cashmere ink. 1. First I stamped the outer circle with a round stamp from CTMH's "Connections" stamp set using Cocoa ink. 2. Then I stamped the sun burst stamp from "Dream Big" in Cashmere ink (just off center). 3. I finished the eye background by sponging Cocoa around the edges to hide the paper's white inner core. And I sponged around the eye ball to soften the lines made from the sun burst. 4. I punch each pupil out with a basic hole punch, sponged the circle to darken it, and made white marks with a white gel pen. Because I attempted a new-to-me pull card style and created a new eye look, I feel that qualifies me for the Heart 2 Heart Challenge for this week.
