Elijah The Prophet 1 Kings 18 Sunday School Crossword Puzzles
This week we have a "NEW" Bible Lesson. Please remember, that each of my lessons last 2 weeks. The first week, I spend introducing the lesson, facts, places, etc. The next week we do a very detailed review...this gives me an opportunity to see if the KIDDOS missed something or if I forgot to share something the KIDDOS needed to know. I LOVE teaching this way. It has proven to be very beneficial to me and the KIDDOS. This is the card we will add to our "GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN" wall. This is my TIMELINE...it helps me show the KIDDOS when in Bible History the events took place....With the focus on the COMING of JESUS!! We will have a new WORD for our WORD WALL. Since we do not live in the time of animal sacrifices...I want to make sure the KIDDOS understand what an ALTAR is/was. For visuals, I decided to use the same Elijah that I used last week...I just printed and laminated a KING Ahab and a few of the Prophets of Baal. I also printed, laminated and constructed two altars. I made sure the altars looked different...and Elijah's has 12 stones! Our Memory Verse for this weeks comes directly from the Lesson Text. 1 Kings 18:39. We will be singing this to the Tune: "The Bear Went Over the Mountain." I have added Mount Carmel to our Map... We will be referring to Elijah's travels....After all, he has been to the Brook Cherith, Sidon and is now coming back to Israel to "meet up" with Ahab. The KIDDOS will be decorating a ROCK as their "TAKE HOME" activity. I have already coded the rocks with the words, "The Lord Is God!" The KIDDOS will use Sharpie Paint Pens to decorate their ROCK. They will add whatever decorations to the ROCK that they want...I will give them a few suggestions: HEARTS, FLOWERS, RAINBOWS, HAPPY FACES, ETC. But, ultimately it will be their choice. By the way, these ROCKS came from the Pacific Ocean. My family and I took a vacation to Ocean Side, California in 2011. I collected a bunch of rocks...(my father-in-law was convinced I was crazy.) I knew I would use some of those MANY rocks for Bible Class Projects. (So, even when on vacation---THINK ABOUT BIBLE CLASSES, LESSONS, STORIES, ETC.) Since the KIDDOS will be allowed to use MARKERS---they are going to be BEYOND excited. However, because these are PERMANENT Markers, I will quickly establish the RULES. #1 RULE: Do Not Color On Anything, But The Rock!!" :-) For our REVIEW GAME, we will be building an ALTAR. The KIDDOS will answer a question from the lesson. Then they will have the opportunity to set a stone in place. We are building Elijah's Altar---so, take notice, I have 12 Stones. (I paper mached these ROCKS a LOOONG time ago. I have used them in teaching so many different Bible Stories...if you have time and opportunity, I would suggest you make some ROCKS.) Next Week the KIDDOS will be making Elijah's Altar to add to their "EXPLORER JOURNAL." They will glue on a STONE for EACH TRIBE. This will be a great time to REVIEW the sons of Jacob.... They will also add the FLAMES. I just cut the FIRE area out of the paper...and we are gluing on SPARKLY paper in RED or YELLOW to the Back. (Since, my KIDDOS are small and DO NOT WRITE WELL----I have already written the names of each TRIBE on the STONES. If I was teaching this to older KIDDOS, I would let them WRITE the names of the TRIBES on the STONES. I will say, there is a LOT of ROCKS in this story...LOL But, KIDDOS really seem to LOVE ROCKS! Blessings, Ronda
I created this chart to help you keep straight the various rulers in the biblical books of Kings and Chronicles, especially because many have the same names. It’s color-coded to match my map …

Lesson 4 2. Abijam & 3. Asa 4. Jehoshaphat #2 - #4 Kings of Judah 1 Kings 14:31-15:24 & 22:41-51 2 Chronicles 13-20
VERSES: 1 Kings 16:29-34 MEMORY VERSE: 1 Kings 16:30 "And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him." BOOK TO REMEMBER: Ecclesiastes. Write "Ecclesiastes" on small slips of paper and hand out at the end of class. PRAYER: We pray for strong, Christian families who are raising their children in God's ways. SPECIAL SONG: The Family In God's Plan (see March - Songs We Sing in Bible Class #4 on this blog) VISUAL AID: Draw a large Activity (see Activity below) on the chalkboard or whiteboard LESSON POINTS: After many evil kings had ruled the Kingdom of Israel, some for longer periods than others, they were still doing wickedly and worshiping idols which displeased the LORD greatly. When the Bible says something, it is always important. God does not say things lightly or "just for fun." There was a king of Israel named Ahab that the Bible says in 1 Kings 16:30 "did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him," meaning of all the kings that had ever ruled Israel, Ahab was the most evil one. God always gives men choices and Ahab made very poor choices in God's eyes. To makes things even worse, Ahab married a woman named Jezebel who brought the idol named Baal for the children of Israel to worship. This idol, Baal, was even worse than the two golden calves that Jeroboam made for the people to worship at Bethel and Dan. Sometimes the women who the kings married brought idols to God's people from their countries and that's what happened in Ahab's case. There was nothing good about Jezebel. Ahab made an altar for Baal in the house of Baal that he had built in Samaria and he also made a grove which was also a wicked thing to do. Ahab did more to make God angry than all the kings of Israel that ruled before him. Ahab was very wicked indeed. We will study more about this wicked king, so that we can learn lessons that will help us in our lives. "Older Student" Tips: Before marrying someone, always make sure that the person you are marrying loves the LORD. Two people working together for the LORD can do much good. It will be and is very difficult for a Christian to remain a strong, faithful Christian if they marry someone who is not a Christian. The LORD needs men and women who love Him with their whole hearts. ACTIVITY: Ahab and Jezebel Materials needed: 9" x 12" white construction paper, crayons. Hand out white paper. Fold paper with two edges meeting in the middle. On the outside flaps, draw Ahab and Jezebel. Explain that we REALLY don't know what they looked like, so they can be creative. They should not look too kindly. Write "Ahab" above Ahab's picture and "Jezebel" above Jezebel's picture. Open paper. On the left side, write "Ahab did evil in the sight of the LORD." In the middle, draw Baal's altar with an unhappy face above it and write "House of Baal' below it. Write "1 Kings 16:30" at the bottom of the middle. Draw a picture of trees on the right side. On the right side, write "grove" at the bottom.
Lesson 1 The Divided Kingdom: Rehoboam First King of Judah 1 Kings 11:243-12:19-1 Kings 14:31 & 2 Chronicles 9:31-12:14 The first three kings were Saul, David and his son Solomon. They were each a king for 40 years. The divided kingdoms begin in 1 Kings 11. Rehoboam was Solomon’s son and he became the next king when Solomon died. All the people gathered at Shechem to make Rehoboam the king. The people sent word to Jeroboam who was still in Egypt, and when he heard the news, he went to Shechem also. The people complained to Rehoboam that Solomon had made their lives hard and they wanted him to make changes to lighten their burdens. Rehoboam told the people to come back in three days. King Rehoboam asked the elders “What should we do about the people’s request?” They told him if he would serve them and say the right things, then the people would continue being his servants. But, Rehoboam didn’t take their advice and asked his young friends that he grew up with the same question. They suggested that he tell them that he would make it even harder on the people. (His friend's opinions were worth more than the elders'.) Everyone gathered together on the third day and Rehoboam repeated what his friends suggested. The people were not happy and went to their tents. Rehoboam went to Jerusalem and found men from the tribes of Judah and Benjamin who were fighting men. He picked 180, 000 men to restore his kingdom. God told Shemaiah not to fight and to return home. This was God’s plan and they obeyed Him. Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built defense cities in the lands of Judah and Benjamin. He built up the strongholds, supplied food and weapons, and put captains in charge. The priests and Levites moved to Jerusalem and they were faithful to God for three years. Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines. They had 28 sons and 60 daughters. He sent his sons throughout the land to every fortified city. He provided plenty of supplies and found wives for them. Once Rehoboam had established his kingdom, he didn’t follow God’s laws anymore. They were worse than his ancestors had been. They built idols on every ‘high hill and under every green tree.’ The people were corrupt. During his fifth year, Shishak king of Egypt attacked and took over the cities of Judah. Shemaiah the prophet told Rehoboam that he had forsaken God. Rehoboam and the leaders humbled themselves and said “The Lord is righteous.” So, God let the Egyptians take the treasures in Jerusalem. They took the gold shields that Solomon had made and Rehoboam made bronze ones to replace them. Rehoboam stayed in Jerusalem. He was 41 years old when he became king and reigned for 17 years. He did evil and didn’t seek the Lord. His son Abijah became the next king of Judah. This is one of the few kings lessons in this series to have this type of worksheet. Christina Barkley sent me the questions and answers and I created the worksheet. The answers are: 1. friends 2. better 3. three 4. young men 5. scourges 6. ten 7. scared Click here to download. Our continuing Exploration through the Life of Jesus Has brought us to the time when Jesus performs another miracle. This time Jesus heals Jarius' Daughter. We added NEW CARDS to our DO You Know? Wall. My Expectation is for the KIDDOS to be able to answer each of these by the end of the lesson. We had three new words to add to our WORD WALL. I chose TALITHA CUMI, MOURNER and SYNAGOGUE. Those are important words for the KIDDOS to understand for this lesson to make more sense to them. We Added a NEW Card to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN Timeline!! Our MEMORY VERSE was Mark 5:26! To hear the MEMORY VERSE song click on this link. Memory Verse Song Mark 5:26 This is the SONG we learned with this lesson. It is a short and simple song to learn. The song can be heard by clicking the following link. Jarius' Daughter....Song By Ronda Duvall Our VISUAL Aid for this lesson was a picture for a set of visual aid cards I purchased several years ago. I really like this picture...It had all the people that were in the house with Jesus represented and if you look through the window you will see the mourners outside! The Kiddo's TAKE-HOME project was a 3D bed with a little girl on it that they were able to make "RISE" when we practiced saying, "TALITHA CUMI." I designed the bed on my computer. Then, using various clip art I have access to I gave it a WOOD look and a quilted top. I drew the little girl a LOOOOOONG time ago...my wonderful husband scanned several of my drawings into the computer. This allows me to manipulate them for size, color, etc. If you would like to see how this TAKE HOME "works" please click on the following link. Clicking on the picture will NOT open the video. Jesus Says, "Talitha Cumi"..."Little Girl Arise." This weeks REVIEW Game was a fun BOARD GAME. We all worked together to get JESUS from the Sea of Galilee to Jarius' house. The KIDDOS answer a question from the lesson, roll a die and then move "Jesus" the number of spaces the die tells them. There are a few "bumps" in the way as Jesus makes His way to Jarius' house. As you know, the second week of the LESSON is when we REVIEW. It gives me opportunity to correct any misunderstandings. It also, gives opportunities for the KIDDOS who missed class the first week to "CATCH UP." This is the Week we SAY our MEMORY VERSE from MEMORY and We do an ACTIVITY we add to our EXPLORER JOURNAL. This LESSON'S EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY was a POCKET "BED" and a two LITTLE GIRL...The KIDDOS colored the area around the pillow and both the front and back of the little girl. They love making her get out of bed, flip around so she is smiling and then say, "give her something to eat." I am loving teaching the LESSONS on the LIFE OF JESUS. I feel like I am learning more and more!! I enjoy writing, coming up with the crafts, activities, games, etc. It can be challenging at times....but, it is always worth it when I see the KIDDOS enjoying learning events from the LIFE of JESUS!! Blessings, Ronda
Elijah The Prophet 1 Kings 18 Sunday School Crossword Puzzles
A set of posters for the prophets was requested by a reader. I haven’t added any specific lessons for the prophets (except for the main men) because there are not any visuals to use. So, I designed the posters like the ones for the kings. Simple with a picture and some additional details about each prophet. The four that are shown above are the major prophets and the minor prophets have the same concept. These additional posters are included in the poster pack. Click here to download the posters. I decided to add a matching lapbook too! This can also be used for a journal or notebook, if you prefer. There is a cover for both (above picture). Click here to see how to create a lapbook. See a free video here on how to create an interactive notebook or journal. Add the pages to a composition notebook. Dollar Tree or Wal Mart or Target or Amazon. The inside pieces are blank lift-the-flap’s so students can write whatever you decide to study about each prophet. Cut out on solid lines and fold on the dotted lines. These extra mini posters are included. There are some extra graphics that can be added to the notebooks or journals for a couple of the prophets. Click here to download the lapbook, interactive notebook or journal printables.
This game is free, however it is only to be used for classroom and personal use. It may not be published on any websites or other electronic media, or distributed in newsletters, bulletins, or any other form or sold for profit. Reproduction or retransmission of any materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, is not permitted. All graphics/images/clipart etc. used on this game are not my own. I adapted a version of this game: Passages of the Prophets The Prophets Game: The object of the game is to be the first player to go from square number 1 to square number 80. Age 5 to adult. Need: Playing piece for each player 1 die Question Cards Game Board Set Up: Place your game pieces near square number one. Shuffle the deck and place it face down in a small basket near the game board. Put an empty basket nearby for the discards. Rules: Basically the game is like Chutes and Ladders. Roll the die and move the corresponding number of squares. Each player gets one roll each turn. If you land on a square with an arrow on it, follow the arrow to where it ends. Arrows can go up or down. If you land on a prophet square, the person on your right picks up a Question Card and reads it out loud (if they cannot read it, someone else can read it for them). On each card is a question about a prophet from the Bible. If you answer correctly, you get to take an extra turn. If not, the game moves on to the next player. (For younger students they do not have to answer a question, they get to take an extra turn.) The first player to square #80 is the winner. You must land there by exact count. If your roll takes you past square #80, don’t move. Try again on your next turn. The Prophets Game- Directions, Game Board, Question Cards
Our NEW LESSON for this week is about the prophet JEREMIAH!!! I LOVE Jeremiah. He is a WONDERFUL EXAMPLE for all of us---but, especially for young people!! I am excited about teaching this LESSON. I love how the KIDDOS seem to connect with the YOUNG people in the Bible. They seem so excited when they find out that YOUNG people can and did do GREAT THINGS for GOD!!! This is our Do You Know Wall? I feel if the KIDDOS can answer these questions they UNDERSTAND what they have learned!! We have some NEW information on our ever growing Bulletin Board. WE have added JEREMIAH the PROPHET!!! Currently he is placed by the crown of Josiah. Remember, Josiah was KING when GOD CALLED JEREMIAH to be HIS Prophet. We have also added a PROPHET CARD to the PROPHET LINE under the Bulletin Board. We have added Jeremiah the Prophet to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN for MAN, TIMELINE!!! The KIDDOS will have two new words to add to the WORD WALL. PUNISH and AFRAID. Although I am sure they KNOW the basic meaning to these WORDS I want to make sure they understand HOW these WORDS are important parts of this story. (Truly the KIDDOS will be able to RELATE to these two WORDS.) This weeks Memory Verse comes directly from the TEXT. It is GOD'S promise to Jeremiah. I LOVE the comfort and strength found in this verse!! If you want to hear the tune we will be singing this Memory Verse to, just click this link below. It will open up the Facebook Page for HOBT. Jeremiah 1:9 Memory Verse Tune by Ronda L. Duvall The KIDDOS will be learning this song during this lesson. I feel this is a VERY catchy song....so, hopefully they will be singing it throughout the next two weeks. :-) I hope their parents do not mind. If you would like to hear this song click on the link below. It will open up the Facebook Page for HOBT. Jeremiah Was a Young Man...by: Ronda Duvall. I would open the FB page and let it play as you read the words from this page...for some reason my video on FB is NOT very good quality. The KIDDOS will be making a Jeremiah The Prophet Puppet as their TAKE HOME project. These are made from Brown Paper Lunch Size Bags. I did draw the FACE, MOUTH, ETC. Then I Copied them onto CARD STOCK paper for stability purposes. I HOPE he looks YOUNG!! By the way, I am going to have the KIDDOS carefully WRITE the MEMORY VERSE inside Jeremiah's Mouth. I just realized I had not shown you our VISUAL. I am still using the PICTURE frame to HOLD up this weeks VISUAL. I decided to go with a POSTER style VISUAL since we are making PUPPETS. After we get the PUPPETS made, I am going to have the KIDDOS help me "RETELL" the story. OUR review game is similar to games we have played in the past....AS the KIDDOS answer a question from the story they will get to help "OPEN" Jeremiah's Mouth. To simply say it, they will remove a piece of the PUZZLE. Under the PUZZLE PIECES it reads, "I HAVE PUT MY WORDS IN YOUR MOUTH." Next week will be our REVIEW WEEK. During this CLASS time the KIDDOS will make their "EXPLORER JOURNAL" project. I know they will be EXCITED about this one! The KIDDOS will get to glue on a "BIG" 3-D hand coming out of COTTON BALL clouds and touching Jeremiah's mouth. After all the Bible tells us, "Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth..." Jeremiah 1:9a I bought the hands at the DOLLAR TREE. They were in the teacher/school supply area. They are originally pointers. However, with a gentle twist the hand popped right off. The only dilemma ---NOW, I am wondering what I am going to do with all those POINTER RODS. LOL. I hope you have enjoyed seeing what the KIDDOS will be doing during Bible Class on Sunday. I LOVE seeing how excited they get---WE WANT THEM EXCITED!!!! After all, they are learning LIFE CHANGING and SOUL SAVING Lessons. Blessings, Ronda
This is lesson nine in a 13-week series that I used in my class. I wanted one quarter to introduce the Old Testament with a basic timeline of the people and events. The students can learn what happened in the Old Testament and how those events lead to Jesus. These lessons are a combination of the Life Overview Series and other lessons. I will show you what I used to blend several posts into 13 lessons. You can change any to fit your needs. This lesson teaches about the Prophets. The lesson continues to explain the Big Picture. I discussed the prophets’ divisions and keyed in on Elijah and Elisha with their basic highlights. Keep in mind these lessons are slightly longer with very different application reviews. The visuals for this series have had a major update. These are some of the new Anchor Charts that are in the application pack. Some have been updated and are not exactly as shown. This Match-It application is easy but fun to use as a discussion review. The left is the answer base and on the right are the event cards. Print one as an answer sheet. The cards can be cut out and stored in a sandwich bag or envelope. Students will lay the event card on the correct person. Click here to download the lesson, Anchor Charts and application. I also used the first puzzle for added review. They are in the Life Overview pack found here. I also used this Bible Timeline File Folder Game. I made the pictures into stickers (which they love!) and the students added to it each week. Even though we studied Jesus and Acts after this quarter, rather than removing any pictures, I printed those pictures already on the page along with a couple that we wouldn't have as it's own lesson. Click here if you want to print the one I used with some of the pictures already in place. This includes the completed teacher's visual also. The original file has a teacher's visual completed. and a student file folder without any pictures on the timeline. All pictures will need to be cut and glued or made into stickers to use.
