Acts chapter 20 includes Paul preaching at Troas and Eutychus falling out of the window. Most of the worksheets have the teacher's answer sheets included. Most of the worksheets with scripture are paraphrased to fit the worksheet space. These Anchor Charts are included. The Concept Charts are designed to create deeper discussions, look up and review main points in each chapter. They are intentionally kept plain so they can be used to each classroom's needs. I have included the scriptures for these, though. Discuss Running the Christian race, it is more blessed to give than to receive and Paul's discussion with the elders of Ephesus. The girls can draw more hair on the runner if they don't like the picture! ☺ The first two were designed for those asking for cut & glue. Cut out the words and glue the verse in order. The students will write out the verse on the last two. This was a suggestion from a teacher. The first is like a Reader Worksheet but has pictures for the students to write the number under each to put them in order. The second worksheet is a chapter word search. The next worksheet is a fill in the blank. Instead of numbering these 1, 2, 3, etc., they are numbered with the verse to read first, then fill in the blanks using the Word Bank. The last worksheet is a Words & Meanings. It has assorted words used in the text in the Word Bank, and students will write the correct word in the box that has the definition of each word. The alphabet picture code and number code answers: Finish the race with joy. Acts 20:24 Jesus said, “It is better to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 Finish the race with joy. This is the last lesson for the book of Acts! This is a review of the life of Paul. There is a booklet that I have used and have the kids flip through the pages with me and as I am telling the Bible lesson, I hand out a little item that will hopefully remind them of that part of Paul's life. They put the items in their Fact Bags to take home. This is another of the kid's favorite lessons! I begin the lesson by using the printed book. First is some background about Paul. Page 2 talks about Paul being born in Tarsus, and page 3 talks about his family and his dad being a tentmaker. The string is for tent making. You can print a baby here. Page 4 discusses Paul going to school and the languages he learned. Then we begin reviewing what we studied. Stephen is first on page 5 and the book also talks about Paul getting permission to put the Christians in prison. I handed out backpack cutouts and you can print lips for the languages here. We were first introduced to Paul when Stephen was being stoned and Paul stood and watched. The people put their coats at Paul's feet. I handed out small rocks here. Paul received permission to go into people's houses and drag them to prison. Acts 8:3-4 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison. Paul approved of Stephen being stoned to death. Click here to print a letter. Paul was blinded by the light on his way from Jerusalem to Damascus. A loud voice said "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" After 3 days, when Paul had his sight back, he was baptized immediately, even before he ate! After 3 years, Paul returned to Damascus. There were some Jewish leaders that were now angry at Paul and planned to kill him. The Christians heard about their plans and Saul escaped in a basket down a wall. He left the city on foot. Print a basket here. Click here to download. Saul met with Barnabus, and they went together to strengthen a new church at Antioch. This is where the people noticed that there were differences in the people following Christ, and so they called them Christians. (Acts 11:26) They stayed there for a year. Paul and Barnabus traveled together teaching people about Jesus. They healed sick people. The people in Lystra thought they were gods because they could heal. They took Paul outside the city and stoned him. I handed out Band-Aids here. They worked with Timothy and met Lydia in Philippi. She made purple cloth. I handed out small pieces of purple cloth and shells here. When Paul and Silas were put in prison, they were singing and praying. At midnight, God made an earthquake shake the jail and their chains fell off! The guard took them home and his whole family were baptized! (The music notes are to represent Paul & Silas singing in prison. I found these at the local teacher's supply store.) In Corinth, Paul made tents with Aquila and Priscilla. Paul wrote his first letter there. It was 1 Thessalonians. Paul also wrote 2 Thessalonians and 1 & 2 Corinthians while he was there. I found the packs of money at Dollar General. While Paul was in Ephesus, there was a silversmith that used silver to make idols of Diana. What does God say about that? Thou shalt not! Demetrius was really angry because he made a lot of money selling them, and there was pandemonium in the city. The coins are at Party City in a big bag of 144 coins. When Paul was in Caesarea, a prophet named Agabus took Paul's belt and told him that if he went to Jerusalem, he would be taken prisoner. Did that stop him? Did that slow him down? Oh, no, he said that if that is God's will, he was more than happy to go to prison for God. I cut strips of fabric that wouldn't fray into strips. You can print a soldier here. Paul did go to Jerusalem, and the people got so angry at Paul, that the soldiers took him as a prisoner for his own safety. The wild mob was trying to beat him to death, so the soldiers took him to the barracks. Paul told them that he was a Roman citizen, so they knew they had to be careful. (Handout the above soldier picture here) There were 40 Jewish men that planned to kill Paul. When Paul's nephew heard the Jewish leaders talking about killing Paul, The soldiers took him to the Governor Felix during the night. He was in prison for 2 years until Festus took over. Festus heard Paul's case and then asked King Agrippa to hear Paul's story. (The crowns were at Dollar Tree, but crowns can be found at a teachers supply store.) King Agrippa said to Paul: "Almost you have persuaded me to be a Christian." Paul said "I appeal to Caesar." So Paul was put on a ship to Rome. Luke and some other friends traveled with Paul. The seas were really rough because it is autumn (fall). After 14 days of not seeing the sun during the day, or the stars at night, they saw land. Paul broke bread, said a prayer, and they ate to have the strength to swim to shore. (I hand out a boat here. [Next photo]) The ship hit a sandbar and the ship cracked in half. The soldiers unchained the prisoners and everyone swam to shore. The ones that couldn't swim, floated with a piece of the ship. They arrived on the island of Melita, now called Malta. The islanders built a bonfire to warm them. As the wood warmed up and Paul was gathering wood, a viper (poisonous snake) clamped on Paul's hand and he had to shake it off! The islanders couldn't believe that he wasn't showing any signs of snakebite! Paul healed people on the island, and after 3 months, the island people gave Paul a ship and everything they needed to finish their trip to Rome. (I hand out the vipers now in above photo) When Paul finally got to Rome, he had his own place, but had guards. Paul didn't get to plead his case to Caesar for 2 years, and while he waited, he wrote letters and told people about Jesus. I printed the scrolls on a granite type paper. I added dowel rod and ribbon to tie it after it is rolled up. You can print it here. This lesson will be effective to just use the booklet and not the handouts, but I this is what I like to do. As they fill the Fact Bag, they are reminded of each lesson they learned about Paul. When they go home and look through the Fact Bag, they should be able to remember and tell their parents what they studied. So, for each part of the lesson, you will see the visual picture and a picture of whatever I used to hand out. I either purchased it or printed it. Most of the printables will have links at the end of the corresponding paragraph. You can also put the items in the Fact Bag before class. This was a request, and everything is included in one download! The ACTS full-page letters can be used for bulletin boards or lesson visuals. The Flip Book is a two-page printable. Each letter needs to be cut out around the solid black rectangle line leaving the letter attached. Then layer and staple. This makes a fun book with an assortment of events in the book of Acts on the pages. There is space left open for any notes you want the students to write, scriptures, or drawing. The Flap Book is usually used in lapbooks or file folder games but can be used by itself as a fun worksheet. Fold in half on the dotted line and cut on the solid lines to separate each letter. We are coming the final (and interesting) lessons for the book of Acts and studying Paul. I have a simple Accordion for the kids to cut and fill in the blanks to review some of the people we have been studying. It is a great conversation starter and for remembering our study. Agabus warned Paul not to go to Jerusalem. When he did, Paul was beaten by the crowd and the chief Captain, Lysias, put him under protection. When Paul’s nephew heard that 40 of the Jewish men plotted to kill him, he went to the prison to tell Paul. When Paul’s nephew informed Lysias of the plot, Lysias told 2 centurions to gather 200 soldiers, 200 spearmen, 70 horsemen and a beast for Paul, probably a donkey, to ride. They left Jerusalem at about 9 P.M. and started to Caesarea which was a 60-mile trip. About halfway to Caesarea, the soldiers returned to Jerusalem and the horsemen continued with Paul. The soldiers thought Paul was far enough away from the angry Jews. Today's scripture is Acts 23:23-35; 24:1-27. When they arrived at Caesarea, the soldiers turned Paul over to Felix. He was the governor. They also gave Felix a letter from Lysias, explaining that Paul would have been killed and Lysias didn’t think Paul was worthy of death since he didn’t break any Jewish religious laws. Felix was dishonest and a lot of people detested him. He was cruel and was an unjust Roman ruler. After five days, the religious leaders came from Jerusalem. They brought a lawyer named Tertullus. He started his speech by saying things that made Felix feel good. He said that Paul had caused riots and violence. Paul said that what really happened was that he had gone to Jerusalem 12 days ago to worship. He didn’t preach in the temple or synagogue or anyplace in the city. “I did what God wanted me to do and was quietly worshipping God.” Felix knew Paul didn’t do anything worth punishing, but thought, maybe, he could use this to his advantage. So he didn’t release Paul. Felix turned Paul over to a centurion. Paul was still a prisoner, but Felix let Paul’s friends visit him. Paul was given some freedom, but the Roman custom was that food and personal needs were supplied from friends. Felix met with Paul and talked to him about God and sin, but Felix didn’t want to change how he lived, so he brushed aside what Paul told him. He thought he could get money from Paul’s followers, so he didn’t release him. He knew Paul was innocent, but wanted to keep the Jews happy, so he kept Paul in prison. After Paul was there for two years, Felix was sent to Rome and Festus took over. Since this is a shorter lesson, I like to spend some time reviewing some of the people that we have discussed in our study of the book of Acts. Stephen was a leader in the early church. We read about him in the Book of Acts. He was a servant and witness to Jesus, but when the Jewish leadership became angry with him, they stoned him. Paul was among those who wanted him dead.

This lesson is intended for preschool, but there are new printables here that could be used for early elementary also. Saul was not nice to the Christians. Saul was also called Paul and he grew up in Tarsus. He was a Jewish leader and was very smart. He was glad to see people being put in prison because they believed in Jesus. Saul was still following the Old Testament rules. Saul was in Jerusalem, and he went to the high priest. He wanted permission to bring back anyone that was teaching about Jesus. He wanted to make sure the Christians were in prison. Saul went from Jerusalem to Damascus. It would take Saul and the other men with him several days to arrive in Damascus. It was close to noon, and they were close to Damascus, when suddenly a light came shining around Saul from heaven. The light was brighter than the normal afternoon sun. Saul fell to the ground and Jesus said to him: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” And the Lord answered, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Saul was shaking! He was amazed and asked, “What do you want me to do?” He was told to get up and go into the city and then he would be told what to do. The men that were traveling with Saul just stood there speechless! They heard someone talking but couldn’t see anyone! Saul stood up and opened his eyes, but he couldn’t see anything. The other men led him by the hand and took him to Damascus. He was there for three days. He couldn’t see and he didn’t eat or drink anything. Saul did a lot of praying. He had some time to think about what he had been doing. There was a disciple named Ananias in Damascus and the Lord came to him and told Ananias to find Saul of Tarsus on Straight Street. He is praying and waiting for you to come. Ananias replied that he has heard of Saul of Tarsus! He is putting Christians in prison. Jesus told Ananias that He has picked Saul to tell others about Him. Ananias did what Jesus told him to. He went to see Saul. He laid his hands on Saul and told him that Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus and sent me to give your sight back to you. Immediately something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes and he could see. Saul immediately stood up and went to be baptized. Scripture for this lesson is Acts 8:3; 9:1-19. I knew I needed to make a map for this lesson, since the kids love them. The stand-ups are great to use for review also. The final lesson in our study of the book of Acts! Although, I have a review about Paul and then Peter. Review: We’ve been studying about Paul’s life. The last couple of weeks we talked about Paul being put on a ship and taken to Rome, but on the way, there was a storm and their boat hit a sandbar. They swam to the Island of Malta. Remember that a poisonous snake bit Paul when he was putting sticks onto a fire, but nothing happened to him. Paul healed the Island Governor's father and people came to him to be healed after they saw what Paul could do. The people on the island gave Paul and his companions everything they needed to continue their travel. They left the island after being there for three months. Lesson: Today's lesson is found in Acts 28:11-31. They stopped a couple of places on the way to Rome and they followed the south winds and landed in Puteoli. (Acts 28:13) They found the Christians there and stayed for seven days. They traveled and stopped two more places and when Paul saw the Christians from these other places, Paul was thankful to God, and it made him stronger to know that there were more Christians. When they arrived in Rome, the prisoners were handed over to the captain of the guard. Paul was allowed to stay by himself with a soldier to guard him. After three days, Paul called the chief of the Jews together. He explained what had happened to him, why he was a prisoner and how they should have let him go but didn’t. (Acts 28:18) He said they had examined him, they wanted to let him go because there wasn’t a reason to put him to death. Paul told them that he had appealed to Caesar. And now Paul has called for the Jews. He wanted to tell them why he was there and ask for help. They told Paul that they hadn’t received any letters about him, and they hadn’t heard anything bad about him either. They told Paul that they wanted to hear what he thought. They set up a day for the people to go to where Paul was staying. Paul talked about Moses and the old law and the Old Testament prophets. Paul explained to them about Jesus. A lot of people came to see Paul to hear what he had to say. Some of them believed and some did not. (Acts 28:24) After Paul talked to them, the Jews left and had great discussions about what Paul had told them. (Acts 28:29) Paul lived in a house that he rented for two years. Paul saw anyone who came to see him. He was vigilant teaching everyone he could about Jesus. (Acts 28:30-31) Paul stayed a prisoner in Rome for two more years and Paul hasn't even been charged with a crime! For two years, Paul lived in his own house, he was allowed to hire people and to live with him, but he was still a prisoner. He probably had help from his Roman friends at this point. People came to his house to listen to his instruction about Jesus. (Acts 28:30-31) And anyone who came to see Paul, Paul talked to about Jesus. (Paul's letters visual) Paul wrote the Books of Colossians, Philemon, Ephesians, and Philippians while he was a prisoner in Rome. These letters were written around A.D. 60 to 61. Today's project is another of my really different, really fun, and really old ideas that I have done for years. I have updated it for you, though. Before class prep: Cut out all the parts, glue the envelopes together and put each person's items in the envelope for easier handout. Including the 13 stamps. Kid's Project: Fold each 'letter from Paul' as I tell them something about each one. It might be a lesson we have coming up from that letter, where Paul was, who it is to, etc. You can see from the next photo; they will fold up the bottom (where it says from: Paul) and tuck it into the top flap. Once they have folded it, they put a stamp on the front and use the stampers I have and postmark them. Then they will put them all in their envelopes to take home. We will also talk about how Paul had to write the letters and have them delivered. I purchased stamps from the Post Office for them to use. (I usually buy 1 cent stamps, but they didn't have 200 of them, so I bought half 2 cent stamps/half 1 cent. Really cheap for a project, though... and it is sooo much fun for them!) The postmark wood stamper above is by All Night Media and is called Wish Postmark # 554E. I don't think it is produced anymore, but I purchase them on eBay. After King Solomon, the nation of Israel fell into a civil war and divided into the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judah (where Jerusalem was located). Israel (the Northern Kingdom) fell to the Assyrians around 722 B.C. while Judah continued for more than 120 years. The prophets warned Judah, however, that judgment was coming for their sin. Jeremiah was one of those prophets. He spoke for God and told them they would be conquered by the Babylonians and would be in exile for 70 years. “Exile is coming,” He declared! This was not a message the people wanted to hear, but it was true and in 587 B.C. Jerusalem and the temple were finally destroyed by the Babylonians and most of the people were deported to Babylon. I made all new bulletin boards and posters to go with Investigating Facts in Acts (IFA). I realize that investigating, detectives and secret agents are not a new concept, but I did use the graphics that I could find to create new ideas and printables for the book of Acts and Life of Paul. It all started when I found so many great items for sale this Spring for VBS that had to do with Investigators! I started at Hobby Lobby and my head just filled with all kinds of ideas! Then, Oriental Trading had a lot, so I had even more ideas in my head! Then, Lifeway had their VBS with the Agency D3, and I found some items in their store! Since I thought Investigating Bible Facts is a great idea anyway, I decided to teach the 30 weeks of Acts with this theme. I will have bulletin boards, worksheets and different ideas for this. This post is the bulletin boards and posters I created. While looking around the local teacher's store, I found this new set from Trend Enterprises called Passport To Learning (T-8296). Since I have used passports with Paul and his travels for at least 20 years (☺), I just had to have it! I used the nice title that came with the set and added labels to the passports of the different places that Paul traveled to in the book of Acts. These are the same places that are in the new passports. Some places are listed more than once, but there is just one passport for each. There are a couple of different options for printing for you. Both have extra printables to use for Paul's travels like a ship, Paul and a Roman Soldier, a Bible city, etc. Click here to download the set that is to use with the Trend set above. It includes the labels for the passports in the set. And, labels for the stampers that are inside. The other choice has passports for you to print. They are black & white so you can print onto color cardstock. Click here to download the passport set. This is a scripture Seek & Find. I used scriptures on the magnifying glasses that I refer to a lot while we study Acts. I used the plastic table cloth from Oriental Trading for the background (on top of the white). I like a nice plain background, but thought I'd try something new with this! There are footprints you can cut from black cardstock or construction paper to save ink. I put the IFA letters separate but can be used on the Bible or not at all. Click here to print the Seek & Find Bulletin Board. One of the bulletin boards I made is Who Did It? interactive bulletin board. I have file folders with a photo and the question on the front. There is a pocket glued on the back and a slit on the file folder to hold the answer which is on a notepad and the scripture is on a magnifying glass. There is also a border you can print for this, but I used the Investigating yellow tape I found at Oriental Trading as a border. I know it doesn't look like much from the picture, but the kids commented on this one and said they liked it! The pockets are easy enough to make, but there is a lot of cutting for this bulletin board. But, I will use it for over 30 weeks, and it is a great interactive board. Click here to print everything. This bulletin board is visuals with highlighters as accents. I have used scriptures that are found in Acts that is a repeating theme, and is suitable for early elementary. This is a poster I made that has 'SUSPECTS' that we will be studying about in the book of Acts. With each body shadow, there is the person's name and scripture. I used two poster boards, glued longwise to make one large, long poster. I used the duct tape I purchased at Oriental Trading around the edges. There is a lot of decorative duct tape, or you can use a stamp pad and make thumb prints around the edges. There is a title, center logo and corners for the poster, which can be used a small bulletin board also. Click here to print the Watch List for Acts. While I was making the above poster, I was reading through Acts to find the scriptures , and decided that the scriptures that Paul describes himself to others would make a great poster also. I decided to use the ribbon bulletin board border that I had purchased for a small bulletin board. I had seen this idea to make the ribbon design here, and also the bow design here. I think this ribbon border is pricey, but it was exactly what I was looking for, and I didn't see the price until I got home! So, I really wanted to get a lot of use from it! You can use a wide ribbon (at least 1" wide by 36" long) instead if you like this general idea. Click here to print the All about Paul posters. I also made these Wanted Posters. They are Paul and the men that traveled with him and taught others about Jesus. There is a set of small ones that I used to glue on the wanted poster that you see on the left. I like the Books of the New Testament pennants that I made for VBS this year, so I made Study of Paul in Acts pennants to add to all the new printables. I kept them plain without any extra logos. This week we discussed Lydia. I used bolts of different purple cloth for the visual, which the kids really liked. They took home purple cloth and shells. They also added purple cloth and shells to their IFA bags with the printable for today. We learned last week that Barnabas decided to take Mark and go a different direction to preach about Jesus. Paul took Silas and Timothy to travel to other churches and preach about Jesus. Timothy was younger, and his mother and Grandma taught him the Old Testament. Paul taught him about Jesus. Paul had a vision one night. The man in the vision begged Paul to come to help them in Macedonia, so they left for Macedonia the next day. Click here to download the poster. Then, Luke started traveling with Paul also. Read Acts 16:8 & 10 We also learned last week that when Luke is traveling with Paul, the Bible says we and us, but when Luke is not with Paul, Luke says them. Remember, we are studying from Acts and Luke wrote it. Our scripture is found in Acts 16:12-15. Now, Paul has Silas, Timothy & Luke traveling with him. They traveled 10 miles to Philippi. The Roman roads were paved here, and there are still parts of them there now! They had been in Philippi, which is in Macedonia, for some days. On the Sabbath day, they went out of the city gate to the riverside. People gathered together there to pray. The city of Philippi didn't have enough Jewish men to have a synagogue, so the people went to the river to worship. It was mostly women worshipping there. They would pray, study the Old Testament laws from scrolls and talk about what they had read. This would have been a great privilege to have a man there to teach them. After they had sat down, they talked to a woman they had met there. One of the women that was there worshipping was named Lydia. She already believed in God, and didn't worship idols. She sold purple fabric. Let's talk a little bit about how she made the purple fabric, and why it was so expensive. I have cut pieces of purple cloth and shells on the front table for the kids to pick up when they come in to class. They do their passports and pick up whatever I have for them so there is not any time wasted handing out things. And, if there are choices, like the shells, they can pick before class. And, first come, first picking! Purple cloth was very expensive. The reason it was so costly was that it was difficult to make. The dye for the cloth came from a shellfish. Purple dye had to be gathered drop by drop from the veins of certain shellfish found only in this area of the Mediterranean. The little bit of juice was white while it was in the veins of the fish, but when it was exposed to the sun, the liquid changed into bright purple and red colors. It took thousands of seashells to make a yard or two of purple cloth. It took a lot of work to catch enough shellfish to dye even one garment. It was a statement of status, power, and wealth in Roman times. The beautiful cloth was mainly used by members of the royal families and Roman senators who were required to have a purple band around the edge of their togas, or robes. (This info gathered over years of research, and I do not know exact origins.) Lydia listened to Paul. Lydia and her household were baptized, immediately, and then she begged Paul, Silas, Timothy and Luke to go to her house to stay. I also used these bolts of different shades and textures of purple fabric. I asked at Hancock Fabric if they were throwing the cardboards away, and they let me have them! Keep in mind, some stores keep them for reordering purposes, but it doesn't hurt to ask! It made for a nice visual. You only need a yard or two of fabric to look nice on these bolts. I have a really long piece of silky deep purple for the kids to touch in the front. This worksheet is a concept chart. As you are reading through Acts 16:11-15 with the students, they can fill in the facts that are stated. This includes the color (w/o logos), black & white and a teacher's answer sheet. These printables will be added inside a 6x9 Clasp Envelope. Have students fill in the blanks on the Profile Report. (The Profile Report can be used for any Bible person.)
