A recipe for lightly sweetened lemonade to use for a lemonade stand.
#sponsored At last, we had the perfect combination of a sunny day and no scheduled appointments, play dates, or activities. It was time to finish the lemonade stand and make some money. In case you missed Part One and Two, here are the links: DIY Lemonade Stand – Part One: The Pre-Build DIY Lemonade Stand – Part Two: Shopping List and Painting While my nieces were away, I used a little No More Nails and some small screws to stick the four wooden crates together. Once they were secure, I attached the four caster wheels and side beams. The next morning I attached the top bar and added the hooks for the top bunting. The girls worked on the bunting for the top and the front of the stand, stirred up the pink and original lemonades, as well as baked some simple ‘just add water’ oatmeal cookies. The finished stand was wheeled to a nearby bike route where we were sure to sell lots. However, it looked like all the cyclists were either enjoying the long downhill, or puffing hard to get up the other way and had no intention of stopping for refreshments. After a few minutes of patiently waiting (or rolling around and doing cartwheels) we sold a few cups to some passers-by, as well as got lots of pointing and smiles from people in their cars. The girls seemed pretty proud of themselves for working so hard on their project, and I hope I earned some Uncle-points in the process. A huge thanks, again goes to Home Depot Canada for sponsoring this project and kicking off the summer with a fun way to get kids thinking about DIY, baking, making money, and rolling around in the grass. Have you ever hosted a lemonade stand? I never did as a child, but always wanted to. We live in a family-friendly neighborhood with great visibility. I decided it would be a fun afternoon activity …
There's not much that I love more than an icy cold glass of lemonade...any time of year! Add pink and yellow streamers and some pinwheels and I get all googly-eyed! This will be our second summer at Oxford Park, and this year Chloe has requested that we make a lemonade stand. Since we're behind a huge green park that often sports kid's soccer games during the spring and summer, Chloe figured it would be a great opportunity to set up a lemonade stand during the games! And who am I to resist a budding entrepreneur? SO cute! Am I right?! Seriously... ...friggin' adorable! I can't wait to get started! Now, another thing Chloe has recently asked for is a play kitchen. This totally surprised me! You've probably seen tons of variations of the old entertainment center turned play kitchen... ...and I totally considered trying my hand at a little DIY kitchenette a couple years ago... ...but Chloe didn't show much interest, and so I thought the time had passed... ...silly me! So, knowing that she wanted a play kitchen AND a lemonade stand, I thought, "Why not make the kitchen do double duty?" It could be a kitchen on the main side, and on the other, we could create a really cute walk-up lemonade stand! Then, of course, I found this image on Pinterest of a similar idea incorporating a vintage style diner... Fun, right?! I'm so excited about this project! Definitely more excited than a 35 week pregnant gal ought to be. ;) So now the search is on! Here's my top contender at the moment (found via KSL- local classifieds). It's a great price, but over an hour away, so...still debating. Now, I realize that this hunk of furniture isn't exactly portable, so taking it out once a week for soccer games might not be very fun for mom and dad. ;) The full plan will likely include a more mobile pop-up stand in addition to the more permanent kitchenette/lemonade stand we have planned for play time. After we have rehabilitated an old entertainment center by removing/adding shelves, swapping out hardware, painting, etc., we'll be prepping some details like these... Whew! I'd better get started! ******************************* I'd love to read your comments if you've made a play kitchen for your kiddos (or yourself, I won't judge), or if you've got any great ideas or links for fun and unique play food, I'd love to see!

DIY LEMONADE STAND So, I have been wanting to post photos of my lemonade stand for a while now, and today, I finally am! Yes... I made this in May, and it is now July - I have been a little busy! Everything you see, EVERYTHING, was from DI, with exception of the apron, which was an old curtain I got at Saver's, and the 1x4 side posts, which I had in my garage already. Wanna see how it all started? I got this table for $10, the plaques for $1 and $2 each, and the drawered shelf for $3. I had a vision! I took the scrolled piece off the back, and spray painted everything. Including the 1x4's from my garage, and the small plaque which I spray painted with chalk paint. The day I took pictures, it was raining, so I got a few shots in the garage. Do you like the candy jars? They were all from DI, and I didn't pay more than $1 each. The small ones were $.50. SO CUTE, right? I think they really make the whole thing! Okay, the jug was from Wal-mart, and I made the banner with paper and ribbon I already had... I forgot. Do you LOVE the apron? Like I mentioned, I made it out of an old curtain I bought from Saver's a long time ago. I love it when I buy something, not knowing why, and then end up using it for something fabulous! Here it is in action! Do you like the spelling on the chalkboard? I LOVE IT! A lemonade stand wouldn't be a lemonade stand without support from our darling neighbors! We love the Giles kids (and ALL our neighbors)! See the bar stools? They were $5 each at IKEA, and I got 3 of them! Moral of the blog post is... You should make your kids a lemonade stand! They will LOVE it, and it will entertain them for hours! It will be a fun memory, and your kids will think you are awesome! I made the whole thing, start to finish, in one day. Have a Happy and Creative Day! Risa
