The next Heirloom Hearts quilt that I want to share with ya'll was actually the first version that I created! After making two test blocks, I got started with this version...I was just so excited to make it. It's no secret that I love simple, two-color quilts, and while this is *technically* three colors, it still fits the bill. :) . If you didn't catch my first blog post about Heirloom Hearts, you can find that here. As soon as Art Gallery Fabrics released the new Gingerbread solid, I was instantly OBSESSED. It's the perfect shade of that rusty pecan color that I love so much. When I initially design a pattern, I normally do so in a very simple color way first. I recently created a Vintage Lace quilt that used Macchiato as one of the Background fabrics (read about that quilt here) and I loved how vintage and home-y it felt. So I decided to mimic that with this quilt and use the Snow as an accent for the chain. We have quilt kits for this exact quilt in our shop! . . Once my quilt top was pieced, we took it out for photos and it just so happened that the leaves were also changing! We saw this gorgeous red tree while we were driving one day in Black Mountain and I immediately squealed and made Peter pull over for a photo. haha. People driving by probably thought we were crazy, but I'd say it was worth it. :) . I sent the quilt top to Ashley of Hen House Quilting. For a while now I've had my eye on the the

This transition has definitely been bittersweet, as I do miss my co-workers and my tiny patients in the NICU. Nursing has been a huge part of my life....so to let that go, even if it's in pursuit of something that I love, is still tough. My heart especially goes out to everyone on the front lines of this pandemic. In a way, I feel like I'm letting them down by walking away from nursing. I am so excited to introduce you guys to my favorite, most meaningful quilt pattern yet, Interwoven! I designed this quilt as a gift for my husband. He's been asking for a quilt of his own for the past several years. I've been hesitant to get started on such a project because well, I wanted it to be perfect. The colors, the design, the quilting, everything! If you've seen our home decor, you'd quickly pick up the fact that we love neutrals. Little pops of color here and there are nice, but overall, I love calm and soothing color palates for the majority of our decor. Sometimes grays feel a little too cool for me, but I really love the soft and warm tone of Kona Doeskin. I'd maybe call it more of a tan gray. I paired Doeskin with Kona Snow (always my go-to white), and I knew that I wanted his quilt to contain only these two colors. When brainstorming designs, I wanted to create something timeless. Block-based patterns are nice, but I just didn't picture that kind of quilt on Peter's recliner. I wanted something with depth and movement. Something that made you stop and stare. I love geometry and playing lines and shapes this was a fun challenge for me! I played around with these lines on my computer for several months before I was happy with the overall aesthetic of the quilt. I then turned my plans into action, and I ended up loving it even more than I originally did! And most importantly, he loves it too. :) While I am a huge fan of two color quilts, I know that many of you love color and gradients. I do too, in the right context :) So I decided to introduce a fun color option for this quilt. I toyed around with how to incorporate colors into the quilt. Alternating colors between the lines was an option, but that seemed too busy and circus-like to me. I finally decided on doing a gradient across the horizontal axis of the quilt to give it a entirely different look. Not only do your eyes move with the lines, they also move as the colors fade from top to bottom. Love it! This is such a fun quilt to use with color gradients! The throw size uses eleven colors while the crib size uses nine. I suggest choosing 1-3 colors, then build your various shades from those colors. Heirloom Hearts quilt pattern is now available!! . This pattern is been in the works for several years! It's actually a little strange how it came to be. I was playing around with a design that was inspired that a quilt that my grandmother made (an attic window quilt). I kept tweaking things and changing around different ideas until I eventually landed on a heart motif. From there, I started brainstorming different ideas to jazz it up a little. I toyed around with cornerstones and negative space, but ultimately, I landed on a classic Irish chain. ( I would show you a photo of said inspiration quilt, but it's all packed away because of the move! Once I unpack it I'll show ya!) While this quilt was ultimately a derivative of a quilt that my grandmother made, it felt a little too far from her work to include it in the Lois Quilt Collection. It's time my friends! the Valley Song Quilt Pattern is officially here! If you've been around a while...well, since 2017, you may recognize this design. If you're new around here, I'm excited to give you a glimpse of what started Lo & Behold Stitchery. Valley Song is a re-design of the very FIRST pattern I ever created...can you believe it? In 2017, life looked very different for us. I was a full time NICU nurse, Peter worked endless hours in hospitality, we lived in Raleigh, and Lo & Behold Stitchery was just something fun to do on my days off of work. I wanted to create meaningful quilts that not only stood the test of time, but also would be loved by others. I made a goal to design just a few quilts that I wanted to see in my home... I would have never dreamed that this little pattern would be the start of where we are today! It's actually kind of hard to believe that this was the first pattern I wrote! While Valley Song looks simple in construction, there is a lot of math and complexity that went into the different size blocks. Knowing what I now know about pattern design, I'm not really sure how I did it! The Valley Song pattern you see today looks completely different than it did 7 years ago, while still keeping the original design intact. CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE I wanted to make the construction of this quilt a little more simple than the original version, so as an advanced beginner pattern, it's all strips and HSTs. In the early stages of re-writing the pattern, it occurred to me that because of the HSTs, you can create different patterns and designs throughout the quilt. Fun, right?? While Valley Song just touches on a few of these, the possibilities with HSTs are nearly endless! To make this pattern beginner friendly, we went ahead and drafted three different variations of the HST rows and made this pattern what I like to call, a
