When it comes to my craft, a question I’m often asked is: “how do I get started with hand embroidery?” While I could come up with an exhaustive list of all you could possibly invest in, I believe that overcomplicates things and can be a roadblock to stitching. There really are only a handful o

Sunday morning I played around with new stones thinking they were going to be grey but perhaps because it is the bleak mid-winter the stones turned a warmer colour. This piece is inspired by Mark's paintings of stones disappearing under water. He is brilliant at that. For both of us scenes like this bring up whisperings of summers spent on beautiful Georgean Bay. For those of you in Toronto don't forget The Artist Project at the Better Living Centre February 21-14, 2019 Mark Berens will be at Booth 506. Strips of plant dyed fabrics soon to become rocks. By Sunday evening I was happily couching away. I have based the background onto an old blanket and it is like stitching butter. The one thing about this kind of stitching is it allows for mind wandering and as I stitched these delicious rusts and browns my mind whispered memories of my beautiful Rusty Pups They are dearly missed As are their antics and adventures. And then as I prepared this post A photo demanded to be noticed So much like my new stones. I have a teacher who always says the piece you start next should always be informed by the last piece you did. Perhaps this means my next piece will have to be seaweed in the colours of my Georgean Bay stones. But I already have soooo many new beginnings just started! But my mind is flowing with ideas on how to go about a seaweed piece. It is so easy to have many ideas isn't it The days just aren't long enough for their execution! I hope you have a day rich in creative ideas.
Ways To Attach This Embroidered Patch To Your Garments ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How To Sew A Patch: ------------------------------ - STEP 1: Wash, dry, and iron your clothing before you begin just to remove any wrinkles. - STEP 2: Get sewing needle and thread, choose the colour of the edge of the patch.TIP look for a darker colour that's as close as possible OR you can also get a clear thread to make it less visible. - STEP 3: Position the patch in the correct placement - STEP 4: Secure your patch in place for sewing TIP. Use a safety pink or straight pink to hold the patchin place. - STEP 5: Cut the piece of thread no longer than 18 inches (45cm). Thread the needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread. - STEP 6: Begin threading the needle through your fabric and the patch, sew with a straight stitch pattern, Continue stitching the patch, - STEP 7: Knot the thread, when you have sewn all the way around the edge of the patch, loop the thread and pull the needle through to tie off your knot. How To Glue A Patch: ------------------------------ Types of glues you can use OR any waterproof fabric glue will work - Elmer’s E431 Crafting Glue - E6000 237032 Craft Adhesive - STEP 1: First, lay your fabric nice and flat. - STEP 2: Second, apply a layer of glue to the area of clothing you want to place the patch. Then apply a layer to the back of the patch. - STEP 3: Third, make sure when you put the patch on the fabric that all glue areas matchup and there is no cloth with glue sticking out from the patch. - STEP 4: Fourth, add weight. Make sure it is enough to press the patch and fabric together. You need firm pressure to make sure the glued areas adhere to each other - STEP 5: Fifth, let dry and do not wash for several days. To get the best bond you need to apply glue to both the patch and the fabric. Doing one side only may leave weak spots that your washing machine and dryer can exploit. TIP 6: Do not stretch the fabric that you are glueing to the patch too. If one little area of the fabric does stretch then you lose the look of the garment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIXX Starlight embroidered patches, sew on patches, patches for bags, patches, kpop patches, VIXX, kpop, patch, chingu embroidery patches

I spent a decent amount of time this fall teaching some kids to sew a bit. On paper and on fabric. Though the self portrait projects can be simply BEAUTIFUL, many students just weren't into it because it takes some perseverance. But, they did seem to enjoy creating a stuffed pillow shaped like a cute monster. They custom painted fabric, traced out what shape pillow they wanted, used some Heat N Bond to create iron on patches. They used those for eyes and whatever else they wanted. Much like any first run project, it had a few problems, but in general I'm really pleased. I'm looking forward to making this even better for my next group with more shape and embellishment choices. We didn't have a lot of time due to holiday schedules, so most only have the minimum required finshed, but a few kids were able to add a few extra details and new stitches. We're missing a few last minute ones in this photo above but we had 8 total, not including my sample. teacher sample This photo causes me lots of "cute aggression"

This top is knitted from the bottom up, in the round and seamlessly. We begin by knitting the bottom hem in garter stitch and then the body in embroidery stitch with 2 faux seams to accentuate the silhouette. At the armhole, we separate the work and work each part separately up to the shoulder. We knit back and forth with a yarn over selvage in the armhole and neckline for a perfect finish. At the end, the shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind-off and our top is ready. YARN: 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls of BEIJA-FLOR from Rosários4, color 04. Stunning 12 x 12 by Stephen Wilson Custom Lucite Shadowbox Some of Stephen’s favorite pieces are the ones that use very unique up-cycling techniques. Often the process consists of utilizing what some would view as disposable materials. He takes the scraps and restores them to their once luxurious status by making them into art. Each art piece begins with an up-cycled luxury bag, box, silk scarf or handbag. He then digitizes a custom embroidery design by hand, layering in each stitch individually. The boxes and bags are deconstructed, becoming the canvas for his creations. The embroidery then goes directly through his chosen medium and the visible texture begins to bring the piece to life. less
