This tutorial is a long time coming! About two years ago, Becca Feeken at Spellbinders came out with these great Vignette dies where you die cut different layers of a scene and put them all together with a structure that you also die cut. These things BLEW MY MIND! I couldn't wait to get some of these dies. Everyone else felt the same way. These dies sold out very quickly! By the time I got to the website with my credit card, they were gone! I had no way of making an adorable vignette that would fold up, go in an envelope, and bring not only my good wishes but "ooos" and "ahhhhhs" from the recipient. Or did I? That's when I invented this card. But unfortunately, my life was so busy at that point (sole caregiver to my mother, who has dementia) that I didn't have time to make a tutorial. But now I do, and so here we go! Because I wanted this to be a springtime card, I chose to use a base of Stampin' Up's Mint Macaroon cardstock. I cut one piece of cardstock at 11" X 5-12," and cut another piece of cardstock into four pieces, each 4-1/4" X 5-1/2". If you want to make it easy on yourself, MAKE SURE THE 4-1/4" MEASUREMENTS MATCH! Each of those four pieces should be EXACTLY the same width. Stack them on top of each other, and if they are not EXACTLY the same width, trim them so they are. I sound like someone who didn't do this earlier, don't I? Mmmmhmmmm. Score the big piece of cardstock right down the middle at 5-1/2", and score each of the smaller pieces at 1/2" on both long edges (see diagram below). Remember: When you score cardstock, fold AWAY from the indentation, not with it. I know it's counter-intuitive, but if you fold away from the indented score line on the big piece, it's going to make one of the instructions further down make sense. Michelle Wright explains it well here. I bought these dies from Poppystamps specifically to create this technique. If you do not have these dies, you can use any nesting dies you have. You can use dies that are the same size for that matter. If you don't have dies at all, you can cut a tunnel in your cardstock with a paper trimmer or scissors. Heck, it's just paper! Play around with it! Here is the same cardstock after I die cut. (Okay, some of you have noticed that there are two right-side score lines on the bottom right-hand panel. I initially scored the wrong indentation. Whoops! That's why I designated this panel to be in the back. No one will notice.) I colored directly onto the trees and branches with the brush tip of a Copic W5 marker and airbrushed with some yellow-green Copics. I used the lightest marker for what's going to be the front panel and went gradually darker. However, I don't think that was necessary because you can always change how light or dark you go by airbrushing lighter or darker. (Eventually, I end up adding more color anyway, but at this point in the process, I didn't know I was going to do that yet.) Cut a contrasting panel (mine is yellow) at 5" X 3". This is going to go at the back of the tunnel, so I used a really bright panel. Then, after placing the tree panel with the smallest opening over top of the 3X5 panel so I would know where to stamp, I stamped the word "Spring." I also smeared some glue at the bottom and covered it with Flower Soft that I found in a drawer. The flower soft did not cover completely, so I added some light green glitter as well. It's like a meadow of flowers and glitter, like in real life. Now it's time to add our first windowed panel to the inside of the card. Start with the panel with the smallest opening. Add some Score-tape (or other adhesive; your choice) to the left flap of that panel. Because you have folded your 11" X 5-1/2" cardstock against the fold indentation, you should have a ridged score line on the inside of the card. Place the panel with the tree window on the right side of that ridge. Peel the Scor-Tape liner off, make sure everything is lined up, and close the front of the card. Now, when you open the card back up, you should see something like this. Take the panel with the second smallest opening, put some Scor-Tape (or other adhesive) on the left flap, and adhere it just above the panel you just did. Keep doing that until you have all four windowed panels stuck down evenly on the inside front of your card. I forgot to take a picture of it, but adhere the 3" X 5" panel (mine is yellow) to the inside back cover so you will be able to see it through the windows. Even though I forgot to photograph that part. You are very smart and will be able to figure out exactly where it goes. At this point in this particular card, I realized that just airbrushing some green around the tree tops was not going to make this a very woodsy card, so I took some distress ink and a sea sponge and sponged leaves on the various layers. It was extremely easy to mask off each layer by simply putting a half sheet of cardstock behind the panel I was working on and another half sheet to the left of that panel. I also took the opportunity to airbrush some moss or grass on the ground under the trees. And then I die cut some deer, and a bunny, and some birds. I believe these dies are from Impression Obsession. I sponged some ink on the edges to make them look more rounded and lifelike. This is a great time to add any critters or flowers or vines or whatever to your layers. So much harder after sticking the right side of the flaps together (voice of experience). I also realized I wanted to scatter some more Flower Soft at the bottom of each layer, so I did that too. Now cut one more piece of the green cardstock at 5-1/2" X 4-1/4" and score it lengthwise at 2". I went ahead and stamped mine with a wood background. The 2" part of the panel is going to be used to hold all four of the right-hand side flaps together, and the 2-1/4" part of that panel is going to get stuck to the right-hand inside of the card. Because you are sticking flaps together, on the back of that panel, run your adhesive horizontally. I used my wide Scor-Tape for this because . . . I really don't have a lot of other uses for tape that wide, and I have a whole roll. You can absolutely use adhesive that is narrower. Open up your card completely and press all those layers down. See how they line up nice and even? That's where the 2" part of the new panel is going to go! Take your Scor-Tape liners off, and stick it all together. I glued the 2-1/4" part to the back cover first, and then--while it was all still flat--glued the 2" side down. Open the close your card to make sure it all works. If you want to take another run at it, Scor-Tape can be loosened with your heat gun and the paper very gently pried apart again. Also feel free to use your scissors to trim anything that didn't quite fit. To finish up the inside of the card, I stamped this sentiment by Penny Black to the left of the trees. And this is how the tunnel looks all put together! Magical! Here is the entire inside of the card put together. Oh yeah, I need an outside of the card too! I used this die from Eutreec that I bought really reasonably from Amazon, and a wood-grain embossing folder from Stampin' Up. Here are a couple more samples I made: This one uses regular old nesting dies, and some very old but gorgeous paper from a company I don't even think is in business anymore. I can't remember what this paper is. I made the card two years ago. I have a thing for adding butterflies wherever I can. The nesting dies used here are Spellbinders, and the butterfly and plant dies are Cheery Lynn. And this one uses Spellbinders dies from the one and only Becca Feeken! Yes, the very dies I was looking for and couldn't get at the time, came back in stock and I bought them!!! And now I can use them in the Storybook Tunnel Card! I also got to use some very beautiful paper from Graphic 45 on this one. This card is made even more special with a door. The door opens and everything. Look! Another magical world inside! A message of thanks! And thanks to all of you who hung in there all the way to the end of this very long blog post. If you have made it all the way to the end, you have to click on this link and see the VERY GORGEOUS card made by my good friend, Shelly Hickox. Shelly is a genius with Graphic 45 (with anything really--very creative that one). Now go make one of your own! Cyndi
Hi there blog friends, I'm back with a card today. The occasion is one I don't want to trumpet but this the very reason we make cards, right? While I was away I learned of a death in the family of an acquaintance, so I took some time out to pay respects. At first I thought it might be crass to…
Hi there, my name is Becca Feeken. I’m a passionate creator and am tickled to introduce you to The Gilded Age. I have a romantic fascination with days gone by and the beautiful, fragile relics that survive to create our memories. The Gilded Age is a look back to a time when beautiful things were all around and each item had a story tied to it. Fineries were hard earned and treasured, garnered with much pride and bathed with love and sentimental value. Whether in art or clothes or architecture, the timeless glamour of the era thankfully punctuates our lives today. Gilding: the process of applying gold leaf or gold paint. It was an age where dreamers knew no bounds in decorating and inventing, paving the way for exquisite art, extravagant embellishment and a level of grandeur that defies simplicity. We’re fortunate that traces of the era live on. One of our present day methods of gilding comes in the way of foiling. Once only able to be carried out at prints shops, it was an expensive process that signaled exceptional taste; your eyes can’t help but be drawn to it. How lucky are we that present day gilding and foiling is so easy! It extends beyond paper and flows over onto other flat materials like fabric, leather, balsa wood, napkins, vellum and more. In my collection I’ve curated a couple of looks inspired from a ladies stationary desk. A desk where she might sit a compose “Thank You” notes with care and attention to detail using her coveted fineries of the day. Each plate in the collection delivers a mark that can be considered hallmarks of fine penmanship and papers. I’m convinced that each of us has a mark, an indelible mark – the tools are there, calling out for us to use them. For my must have desk items and decoration, I’ve curated the following: Gilded Nested Rectangle Die Set Buy Now This shape has always been a favorite of mine. It features clipped off corners and is a classic label shape. Just think about all the layering possibilities, especially with decorative corners and with existing rectangles. Nesting is a winner and just stacking them up gives you an attractive base for coloring, stamps or more dies. Gilded Nested Rectangle Glimmer Set Buy Now This glimmer set is the perfect companion to the Rectangle Die Set. If anything, it is understated, yet elegant. It’s a simple classic border that adds a polished touch to the edges while still leaving most of the real estate to what is yet to come within the framed border. Gilded Leaves Shaped Panel Buy Now Although it is hard to pick a favorite, I’m so stoked to have something different to offer in this collection. Most of the time our dies and markings sit on or within a cut piece of paper. I love it that this combo plates and die set creates classic, elegant shaped panels. At the same time it creates individual cascading leaves for use on other projects, for layering or simply alone. So many options and no fussy cutting will make me pick these up time and time again. Gilded Vines Buy Now As always, it’s a pleasure to have a design that does all the heavy lifting when I sit down to make a card or a decorative panel. Gilded Vines fits that bill to a “t”. With enough room to allow a word or a sentiment, the rest of the show is commanded by the filigree decoration that looks exquisite in gold. Even though it is quite dressy, it can be paired with anything – a sentiment, a stamped image, a monogram or even layered underneath some dies. Gilded Trimmings Buy Now How often have I wanted a straight-edged border to simply include on the bottom of a note card on along the side, just to spice up a panel of paper. I have it now!! This straight edge does double duty as a border, as a frame or repeated across a whole panel to make a background. To me, the decorating options are many, and this useful pattern will find its way on to boxes, frames and favors but it will be just as easily used for the clean and simple look of a foil patten alone. Lace Frippery Buy Now This design is as fun as its name. Lace Frippery is a light hearted airy border that would look at home at the top or bottom of your cards as well as the flap of an envelope. That kind of portability makes it perfect in creating ensembles. This is a majestic border, but I also I think it would be dreamy to isolate just the top or bottom and use just a portion like the bottom scallops. We go through life leaving our mark. It takes the form of ephemera, mementos, handwritten letters and the like. As a legacy creator I’m heartened by anything tangible that can be left behind for others to know our stories; they are breadcrumbs that let us search back along the path. I hope you’ve enjoyed looking through a small collection that is dear to my heart. I want to encourage you for when you create; I want to encourage you – leave your mark. Becca
Hello sweet friends!! Lol, I guess it would be ever so much an understatement that I've been slightly preoccupied. The days are rushing by and it seems like we 'just' turned the corner into the new year. As I was sitting at the craft table this evening I kept thinking there was something kind…

Welcome back friends! Today I’m excited to share the new Home Sweet Quilt Collection by Becca Feeken. The cozy quilt designs in this collection are perfect for sending warm hugs at any time of year! I used the new Layered Windmill Die Set to create this pretty winter card, but be sure to check out the additional springtime samples below. I started by cutting Indigo Cardstock using the outline, insert, and small flourished triangle dies from the Layered Windmill Die Set and white cardstock using only the outline die. Then I chose several patterned papers from the Snowed In 6x6 Paper Pad and cut them using the insert die from the set. Once I had adhered the Indigo outline to the white solid backer die-cut with liquid glue, I could just piece the patterned paper or solid cardstock pieces back in with more liquid glue. I embossed a piece of Raindrop Cardstock with the Orange Peel Quilt 3D Embossing Folder before adhering it to a top-folding 5.5-square white card base with tape runner. After adding the quilt piece on top with foam adhesive, I stamped a greeting from the Quilty Hugs Sentiment Stamp Set in blue ink and popped it up on top of the card along with a pretty flower cut with the Be Bold Blooms Die Set. And here are three more projects I made using some of the other quilt designs in the collection. For the first, I ink blended a panel before cutting it with the French Braid Panel Die Set and adding flowers cut with the Be Bold Blooms Die Set and a sentiment foiled with the Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments Plate Set. Next, I cut several different green and blue cardstocks using the Flower Mini Quilts Die Set and added it to a background embossed with the Orange Peel Quilt 3D Embossing Folder for a simple, more masculine friendship card. Lastly, I cut pretty patterned paper with the Patchwork Petals Die Set and added an embossed background (Loops Embossing Folder) and sweet sentiment from the Quilty Hugs Sentiments Stamp Set. You can find all of the details on these projects over on the Spellbinders Blog by clicking here! I hope you enjoyed these fun cards and thanks so much for stopping by today. Describe {Becca Feeken} in three words. Passionate, Romantic, Gifter What were some influences that helped shape the collection? Graceful Borders and Graceful Frame Maker were influenced by the polish and professionalism of a hung frames and prints and the glamour of ornate decorative edgings that surround them. From the wall to the page, I thought cards would be the perfect canvas for borders fashioned into frames – it’s the perfect way to highlight a sentiment or special memory. I start so many of my cards with a border, so mixing and matching and having a spread of options from simple to complex was my starting place! Vintage Elegance Love is in the details. Vintage Elegance is made of the tiny to the larger pieces that put a special touch on cards, gifts and ensembles. Ornate in design, Vintage Elegance lets you layer on love from the basic card to the addition of tags and pockets – it’s just the extras special little details that make handmade so heart-made. Where is your favorite place to create or get inspired? My favorite place to create and get inspired is right in my studio. It’s a living bulletin board where I pin whatever my latest fancy might be. I surround myself with the things I love and relish looking at them when I day dream. I am a collector of things – boxes, fabric, lace, fiber, vintage, angels, hands, tapes, buttons, clips, ephemera . . . anything romantic, and most definitely anything that evokes a warm smile. Just having these things to look at are an every day delight and inspiration. What are your favorite, “must have” pieces in your upcoming collection? Favorite piece from Graceful Borders and Graceful Framemaker is the frame maker die. With that one die, I feel like I can conquer the world~ Favorite piece from Vintage Elegance is the Mini Booklet Die – I’ve dreamed of this one for a long time and haven’t run out of ideas on the next booklet to make, yet. Hi there friends, Today is release day at Spellbinders! I was lucky enough to work with one of the new collections, 3D Vignettes by Becca Feeken! There's 4 die sets in this collection but I've only worked with two. I'll be honest, I was terrified at first haha! I never really create projects like these, so I thought I could just try working with two to start with! I'm happy to report that they are much easier than they look! Yes, there's a lot of teeny tiny die cuts in the sets, but there are instructions available for each set. I just followed those and I had no problems at all. I love love love the 3D projects, especially the TV! I will not go into step by step tutorials here, since I made a process video for all of today's projects - I'll just attach some photos! I'll link the video down below, if you're interested. You can also subscribe to my YouTube Channel and press the bell icon so you never miss a new video! You'll find all the supplies I've used linked in the description box of the video. Anyway, here are today's cards and projects: Here's the video (WARNING! It's super long!): That's it for today guys! I hope you love these new die sets as much as I do and I hope you won't be discouraged just because they look overwhelming. I felt the same way I swear! I'm so happy I accepted the challenge though, because it was pretty straightforward how the pieces come together and I love the final result as well! I hope I could inspire you in some small way! Thank you so much for stopping by! Have an amazing day! X

I am here with my second Amazing Paper Grace Guest DT project! You will be shocked to notice that my card is a STANDARD A2 size (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") and fits into a regular notecard envelope! Will wonders never cease?!? I am in love with BLUE just now, which is awesome because the Pantone Color Institute has announced that its 2020 Color of the Year is PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a deep blue shade that's at once "comforting and relatable." I created a card base from Flag Blue cardstock, then added a panel of blue and cream printed paper from the Graphic 45 Dreamland Collection. I added some silver Wink of Stella glitter pen around the edge of the paper. So sparkly! I used the Shapeabilities Double Halo Oval Dies (3D Mini Album Collection by Becca Feeken) for this card project. The set comes with four dies, a large decorative oval, a medium oval, a small decorative oval, and an accent piece. I cut the large decorative oval from Flag Blue cardstock. I then used the medium oval to cut out an image from the Dreamland paper. I added the large oval to the card with foam tape. I also added the image to the center of the decorative oval with foam tape. I love the dimension. I cut the decorative accent out of silver glitter paper and added one accent to the top of the large oval and one to the bottom. I added a lovely, blue bow made from metallic edge satin. The chipboard sentiment and the sliver pearls finish off the card. I hope you enjoyed my project! I will be back next week with another Amazing Paper Grace project! Good afternoon!! Hope you really are doing fine on this glorious day. I have a quick card to share and am working on some other things so I'm afraid this will be a short blurb. It is a simple card and the more I look at the more it looks like a variation of yesterday. Oh well, I think when I…
