The shores of Michigan's lakes are loaded with some of the most beautiful rocks and beach pebbles you'll ever see! The variety of colours, shapes, sizes, textures and patterns is amazing. From granite in a whole rainbow of colours, to quartz, kona dolomite, and intricate fossils, (like our beloved petoskey stone) the diversity is truly inspiring. As a rock-lover, I spend many days at the beach, combing the shores for beautiful stones. I wash and sort them, and then use them to create maps, pictures, jewelry and mementos, which honor our wonderful lakes and our land's natural resources and history. Each map I make is created individually with whatever stones I have on hand from my most recent beach trips. I find and collect all of my stones myself. (I never buy any of them from other collectors or third party sellers!) Each map is different, because no two stones are the same, and each year brings varying amounts of different types of stones to the shore. However, I always put my maps together with an eye for as much variety as possible, working to ensure that each map contains a Lake Superior agate, quartz, granite, limestone, fossils (honeycomb, chain, colonized), sandstone, septarian nodules (lightening stones), leeland blue, unakite, and whatever other beautiful stones wash up on the beach. And I ALWAYS put a petoskey stone in every one of my Michigan maps. This Michigan map was made using beach pebbles I collected from Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. It contains a particularly beautiful agate and a small piece of native vein copper in the U.P. portion of the map, and a petoskey stone and a lovely big lightening stone in the lower peninsula portion. There's also blue and green beach glass in several shades throughout. The map is made using industrial-strength adhesive, so that the rocks are securely attached to the baseboard. They're also sealed with a high-gloss sealant to protect them and bring out their natural colours and patterns. This map is 11" x 14", with a white mat and base, and a wooden frame in a beautiful shade of aged grey, like driftwood, which offsets the gorgeous tones of the rocks. The shipping for this item is free within the continental US. CUSTOM STONE MAPS: I am happy to take orders for custom stone maps, whether it's a Michigan map with an emphasis on a particular place, a map made using stone YOU'VE collected and want included, or a map of another state that you love, I am happy to create one for you. If there are specific stones that you want in your Michigan map, please contact me before you order, so that I can look through my collection and make sure that I have what you want. Also, please contact me beforehand if you want a specific stone placed to mark a particular location (for example....the city where you live, or the town you grew up in.) I can also include heart shaped stones in your map to mark specific places if you want.

Hand crafted and painted barn quilt. I use milk paint on solid pine or red cedar wood, and a multi-step aging process to create the appearance of a time-worn heirloom. Each design is made to order. Please Note: This piece is finished with antiquing wax and is intended for display indoors only. Colors used in this piece include: Betsy ross red, parchment, french gray, navy, beachglass I offer this design in three different sizes. The barn quilt pictured in this listing measures 22" x 22". Heavy duty hanging hardware is included with each order. Over time, wood stabilizes with the moisture content of the room in which is it displayed. This process may result in some shrinkage along the face of each barn quilt plank. To minimize this effect, I allow time for the wood to stabilize before assembling the pieces to create the painting surface. Even so, there may be some additional movement in the wood over time as it acclimates to your home. Every barn quilt that I create is an unique piece of art, and I believe this stabilization process along with the natural variations in color and aging appearance adds to the intrinsic charm of these “aged” pieces. Thank you for visiting AgedByDesign!
