Can two bold colors really work together to create a harmonious space? What if blending the calming tones of blue with the vibrant energy of yellow could bring a refreshing and lively vibe to your home? If you’re curious about how to balance these contrasting hues within a boho design, you’re in for a treat.
‘Protea Lady’ is part of a series of ‘wobbly lady’ prints that evolved from the idea of women and more specifically, mothers forever seeking to find balance in their lives. The shape of this lady is rounded at the bottom like a ‘roly poly’ baIance toy that never falls, but is in a constant state of balancing. ‘Protea Lady’ has beautiful protea flowers, vines and also a little bird featuring on her clothing. Her eyes are looking to the side which is a little reference to a beautiful painting by the Australian artist, Hilda Rix Nicholas called ‘Les Fleurs Dedaignees’, 1925. This is a limited edition of 20 prints in black ink. Each print has the edition number (ie 1/20), the title and my signature. Paper size is approximately 35.5 x 50cm, and the printed image is approximately 25 x 40.5cm. I began this artwork by creating a series of sketches in pencil and ink, and chose my favourite to develop into the final artwork. The drawing was then transferred onto the surface of the lino and was hand carved using specialized lino cutting tools. After the carving is complete, I hand mix and roll the ink onto the surface of the lino block, using a printmaking hand roller. Using my printing press in my studio at home, prints are made by placing the printmaking paper on top of the inked lino block and this ‘sandwich’ is hand pulled through the press to create the print. This artwork is printed on high quality white Rosapina Fabriano paper (220gsm, acid free, 100% cotton rag) and is printed with professional water based Graphic Chemical Company inks. (The absence of acid guarantees the inalterability over time of the paper.) ‘Protea Lady’ was printed on my printing press at home, and the ink was rolled onto the lino block by hand using a roller. Each piece of paper is cut by hand so there may be some slight variations in paper size, and you may have an unobtrusive ‘Fabriano’ watermark on the paper surface itself. I recommend waiting until you receive the print to organize framing. The paper itself is high quality and heavy weight, which gives the print a lovely feeling as an art object. I package my artworks with great care and always aim for happy customers. I carefully roll each artwork in tissue paper and butchers paper before placing securely inside a sturdy cardboard mailing tube. I aim to post items within two business days of receiving payment, and will post with Australia Post. Please get in touch if you have any questions, I would love to hear from you. Simple shapes, when deconstructed, can create surprising effects. Here, the simplest shape of all, the circle, is separated into four quarters. The choice of glaze colour (or no glaze) determines the contrast between shape and background and the quarters can be brought back together to be whole again or be left incomplete. The rhythm of […]
