Created in 2006 by multidisciplinary artist Kimsooja, To Breathe – A Mirror Woman was an elaborate installation at the Palacio de Cristal, Parque del Retiro, in Madrid. Originally built in the late 1880s to house a collection of flora and fauna from the Philippines, Kimsooja transformed the Palacio de Cristal into a multisensory sound and light experience. A special translucent diffraction film was used to cover the windows to create an array of naturally occurring rainbows which were in turn reflected by a mirrored surface that covered the entire floor. A while ago I shared a collection of architectural images, now let’s get a little more specific. Churches and places of worship are often well design, finely crafted, masterpieces of architecture. Let’s take a look at some great, ethereal images of churches, mosques, and other places of religious practice: Cathedral by Andrew Vasiliev on 500px […]

León Cathedral was designed without cloister, but eventually got up between the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century. This construction covered the northern entrance, since then, was guarded. This cloister is a square of side 30 meters, has 6 bays per side and 24 pillars in all, responding to the percentages set by the Cistercian cloisters. Around him are grouped various units, including the current Cathedral Museum. The pointed arches and spiers of the inner wall present biblical scenes and everyday life, showing again the dialogue of divine and human, typical of Gothic. The wall between the arches of the cloister were painted with scenes from the life of Christ by Nicolas French in the 60s of the fifteenth century, although some of them are later work of Lorenzo de Avila and others. In the early sixteenth century, Juan de Badajoz "the boy" remade the vaults of the cloister. He used canvas and mounted 28 arches and vaults and decorated complicated. Phylacteries and medallions have a complex iconographic program also linked with the Virgin of Regla. Under the arches can be seen a complete collection of graves that reveal the stages of sculptural activity cathedral, but still mostly works as both XIII century XIV century. In the center of the courtyard and various parts of the cloister are remains of the west and south gables, which were removed during the restorations of the nineteenth century by the architects "purifying" of the cathedral.
