Hi friends! I love when a new fabric comes out for the kiddos because it makes me want to make all of the baby shower gifts. This is a revamp of my favorite bib pattern that I make for craft shows and for baby shower gifts. I added a color block front, that would usually combine two different solid fabrics to make a bold statement. Grab some of your favorite fabrics and let's get started! Materials Needed 2 fat quarters of fabric Fusible fleece Coordinating thread Bib template Plastic Kam snaps or velcro General sewing tools: sewing machine, scissors, rotary cutter and mat, straight pins, iron. Fabrics used on this project are by Timeless Treasures - Camp Cricket Directions Print bib template making sure to print at 100% size. Cut out the template and line up folded edge of pieces A + B. Tape along line to join pieces together. Trace shape on a heavier cardstock for tracing multiple bibs. For color block bib front, cut a piece of fabric measuring 4.5” x 10” for the bottom of the bib, and a piece measuring 10” x 10”. Sew the two pieces together using a ¼” seam allowance taking extra care if using a directional print fabric. For the backing of your bib, cut a piece of fabric measuring 10” x 14”. Fold your bib front and back fabric in half lengthwise. Place template fold along the fold of your fabric. Trace shape using fabric pen and cut out shape. Place your bib front on your fusible fleece rough side up. Trace and cut around the edges matching the bib. Iron bib front wrongside to fusible side of fleece. At your machine, stitch along each side of seam of the color block section on bib. Place fused bib front right side down on bib backing that is facing up. Pin around perimeter of bib with straight pins. At your machine, start sewing at one side. Back stitch at beginning to make opening of bib more stable when turning right side out. Stitch around the perimeter of the bib taking your time around the sharp curves at neckline. Stop stitching about 3” from starting point, back stitching to end. Slowly flip the bib right side out through the opening. Use a pointy object like a knitting needle or chopstick to help poke out corners. Iron the bib flat, carefully turning in opening. Top stitch around bib, starting at the opening. Sew close to the edge for a clean look. Attach Kam snap as instructed or cut a small square of velcro and sew at top of bib neckline. Here are a few pictures of the entire set - you can coordinate your fabric choices to match a baby shower theme, nursery decor or seasonal! Thanks for stopping by the blog today. Happy Sewing friends! Nicole

I have a Baby Shower to go to later this month. It has been YEARS since I have been to a baby shower <3. It is for a sister of a close friend. I am very excited to sew gifts for the baby. Of course, knowing if it is a girl or a boy would be MOST helpful - but the mother-to-be has decided to not find out. I did my best on fabric selections. Green and yellow are nice - but there has to be SOME pink right? I searched long and hard for the gifts that I thought would be useful and easy to complete but look like high end gifts. I found three. Here is the first of the projects I have completed. I used the tutorial I found here for Baby Burp Cloths at A Chelsea Morning. The only change I made was I used flannel for the inserts. I had a September baby and the thought of warm cozy burp clothes made of flannel just felt right. I started with the cutting of the flannel and ribbons (following the tutorial) and spent the majority of my time pinning it all together. It was a lot thicker than I anticipated. I really need some GOOD quality heavy gauge pins! Then Elizabeth (my machine) and I got to work. As I mentioned it was thick - so I went slow. But she never failed me! I thought for sure I would break a needle. Helpful Hint: I used a whole bobbin for this project. But once they were done they look so soft and snugly! I think they will wrap up nicely for presentation. I can already hear the 'ohhhhs' and 'ahhhhs' from the crowd! Now I am off to start project #2... which is MUCH bigger! As I mentioned in an earlier post, my daughter Keira was born with acid reflux. If you've never seen a child with it, it's gross. She threw up all day every day until she was 1 1/2. It was projectile vomit and often times covered the person holding her, the floor and any nearby furniture. She would go through multiple outfits a day because she would stink so bad and had 2 baths a day. She was on medication but it didn't help with the throwing up part, just the buring part. She is such a sweet girl though, I couldn't help but love her even though she was gross. :) With that in mind, preparing for my next daughter I wanted to have a lot of good burp rags on hand. My other burp rags are rough now and faded and honestly didn't do a whole lot for cleaning up puke. She would go through a whole stack in a day. I read online different types of tutorials and honestly wasn't impressed. Most would say things like you need to buy a package of Gerber cloth diapers but don't buy them from walmart because they come from China. You need to buy them from Target. We don't have a target and the cloth diapers alone cost $13.00 for 8 of them. I looked at the Walmart kind and they are more cheesecloth than diapers. so I had another idea!!!! At Joanns WITHOUT a coupon you can buy chenille for $14.00 a yard. With a yard of fabric you can make a good dozen burp rags. I used scrap fabric or bought end of bolt deals or I found cute fabric and bought 11 inches of it. (that usually came out to be about $1.45 per fabric. with 11 inches you can make 2 burp rags) NOTE: pre wash your chenille and fabric and dry it before using it!!! I prewash everything I use besides minkee and it blows my mind when people don't because you end up with a messed up product in the end if you don't. The dimensions of rectangles you need of chenille and cotton or flannel are: 9 1/2" wide and 17" long I use a rotary cutter and mat to make sure my pieces are square. Also, I often times find the measurements and tear the fabric (don't tear chenille- it won't be straight) because it stays with the right dimensions. once my rectangles are cut, place them right sides together and pin. Sew around them at a 1/4" leaving about a 2 1/2" opening and clip corners Turn right sides out through the opening use the tip of a pencil or your scisors to carefully make sure the corners are poked out. now top stitch a little less than 1/4" around the burp rag making sure the opening is tucked in to be flush with the rest of the burp rag. YOU'RE DONE! I could make these all day. they are fast and easy and turn out so nice and will be AMAZING to use. And oh so absorbant and soft for baby to lay her head on! :) BIBS: For the bibs I used a bib I liked when Keira was using them and traced around it adding 1/4" for seam allowance. cut one out of fabric (cotton or flannel) one out of chenille or minkee. Place right sides together and pin Sew around the entire bib leaving an opening in the bottom for turning Clip corners, neckline and curved edges turn inside out topstitch at a little less than 1/4" (again to avoid having to hand sew-you may want to anyway) attatch velcro YOU'RE DONE! Easy and cute! I used these all the time and I would have made more but I ran out of chenille and minkee. :)
