In 1998, I revisited Rome for the specific purpose of photographing the Bernini sculptures that I had photographed in 1979. Museum policies had changed and I found out before the trip that the recently renovated Borghese Gallery no longer allowed cameras. I set out on a long path to get permission. After many calls and a connection to the American Embassy in Rome, I set off on my journey. The process continued to be complicated in Rome but I was determined because I have such a passion for his work. I was granted permission to photograph the sculptures before hours. I was instructed to go to a side door of the museum before 8 a.m. and knock. A guard came and opened the museum for me and my mother, who was traveling with me. The guard stayed with me the entire time and I was given one and a half hours to get my photography completed. I got home, filed the work, and am just beginning to rediscover the black and white and transparencies from that experience. I hope this is now enjoyed by many. The original negative has been scanned and is printed on archival matte inkjet paper. Glossy non-archival paper is available upon request. Original fine art photograph signed on the back of the print. Size: 8X10 paper with full frame image size 5.5X9 centered with white border ready for matting. 'Button Dress' V&A Portfolio Limited Edition print A model wearing an evening dress, John French (1907-66), London, 1960s © Victoria and Albert Museum, London Fashion Photography. Beautiful Extra Large 24x20 inches paper size silver gelatin fibre print Unframed. Limited edition to 100. From the V&A PORTFOLIO. A stunning visual archive of over 200 images selected from the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. Certificate of authenticity provided. About John French : John French was an English fashion and portrait photographer. He was born in Edmonton, London, in 1907. French originally trained and worked as a commercial artist, becoming a photographic director in an advertising studio just before World War II, during which he served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards. In 1948 he founded his own photography studio. Working originally with the Daily Express he pioneered a new form of fashion photography suited to reproduction in newsprint, involving where possible reflected natural light and low contrast. He also undertook portrait photography. French was one of London’s top fashion photographers of the 1950s and 1960s. He devoted much attention to the set and posing of his models, but left the actual triggering of the shutter to assistants, amongst whom were Terence Donovan and David Bailey. The models he worked with included the most famous of the time and many were debutantes who went on to become well-known society figures. John persuaded the art editors of the national press to use his flawlessly lit images of top models and his work appeared in virtually every newspaper and magazine. After his death the John French's archive was donated by his wife, the fashion journalist Vere Denning, to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He was once described as "the man who brought a new glamour to fashion photography". John French essentially captured elegance. Unlike other photographers of the early 1960s he had a certain magic, incorporating both a sense of 1950s refinement whilst also showcasing contemporary 1960s style and muses - Jean Shrimpton being just one. Through photography of French, fashion is free of static poses, imposed by the clichés of the time dictated by Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, to focus on freedom of expression and on the naturalness of the shots. His images are characterized by a compositional research tending to perfection, with an obvious care and attention to detail and the poses of the models within the structure. Using a black and white sweet, the British photographer invents an innovative style and fresh that exploits the natural lights to create structured lines essential that emphasize the contrasts and chiaroscuro. The V & A Portfolio A stunning visual archive of over 200 images selected from the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. The V&A holds around 500,000 photographic works in its collections. Seller has showcased a selection taken across fashion, architecture, theatre and performance. Uniquely produced as black and white silver gelatin, and archival pigment prints, premium quality prints are made using a selection of very high quality paper and outstanding framing materials.

This cranberry tone on yellowish cornsilk Chinoiserie is a screen print on 100% Mid Weight upholstery grade cotton. Sold by the yard with up to 9 yards currently available. This chinoiserie pattern was likely taken from older extant examples. A classic chinoiserie perfect for grandmillennial and traditional projects. COLOR NOTE: This is the second time taking photos of this piece as it is very difficult to photograph. The background is definitely a warm, yellowish cornsilk type color. The print is a dark cranberry. See the picture with a white piece of paper next to it for an accurate gauge of the yellow background. The paler pics are not accurate to the color, it is definitely yellow. Cover art by Barry Windsor-Smith, script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Barry Windsor-Smith, inks by Dan Adkins "The Black Hound of Vengeance!": Conan looks for his friend Fafnir after the city of Makkalet is taken. Fafnir has been dragged from the water, but has lost an arm, and Conan keeps vigil over his friend's sleeping body. This is interrupted, however, with a mission from Balthaz, who takes Conan and a few others into the town. A few random encounters with guards hinders their progress towards the temple, but they finally make it inside. Conan is separated from the Turanians, and while he roams the hallways, Balthaz and his men make their way to the roof and light a signal for Yezdigerd. However, Balthaz's men are suddenly and mysteriously slaughtered. Meanwhile, Conan encounters a young woman, who calls herself Caissa, inside the temple, as well as Kharam-Akkad, who lets loose a skeletal warrior after Conan. The battle carries outside the room, and Conan realizes smashing a mirror will destroy the beast, as he knows from the previous day's battle the wizard Kharam-Akkad's use of mirrors in his magics. Inside the room, however, it is revealed that Caissia is queen of Makkalet, and she begins to berate Kharam for hiding the statue of Tarim, the object of worship Yezdigerd desperately wants. Conan finds a mirrored room containing the statue, but falls through a trapdoor and confronts the Black Hound. Conan manages to choke the great beast with its own chains and kills the creature. Conan stumbles away, weak and injured, back to the ships of Yezdigerd, only to find that Balthaz has already fled back and ordered all the dead, including Fafnir, who Balthaz knew was not deceased, thrown overboard. Conan calmly walks over to the arrogant Balthaz, and swiftly pulls out Balthaz's sword and stabs him in the heart. Yezdigerd calls for Conan's death, but the Cimmerian slaughters a good portion of the army before he gets to the prince himself, and slashes at him, scarring the royal face, before diving into the ocean. Notes: Cover art and story colors by Smith (per Windsor-Smith in Spectrum Super Special #3). 1st printing. Comic is complete with cover and all pages attached. The painting is signed on the bottom left: MGordigiani. It can be added to his mature production, as we can deduce from the clear Macchiaioli and Paris avant-guard influences, and with the stylistic affinity with the draft of the portrait of the Queen Margherita of Savoy, of which our work seems coeval. It's charcaterized by a certain compositional sweetness and elegance (the chignon, the shiny fabric, the jewellery) that, however, don't hide the complexity of the human mind showed in the enquirying and deep glance (the painting technique highlights this aspect, too, as we can see by the major definition of the face respect to the rest) . The V&A Portfolio A stunning visual archive of over 200 images selected from the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. The V&A holds around 500,000 photographic works in its collections. Uniquely produced as black and white silver gelatin, and archival pigment prints, premium quality prints are made using a selection of very high quality paper and outstanding framing materials.
