THOMAS BLACKSHEAR II, the son of an Air Force captain, was born in Waco, Texas, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. "Drawing was all I ever liked to do," he says. "While all the other guys were playing baseball or basketball, I was in my house, drawing." He pursued an interest in art throughout high school, securing a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago. After a year there, he transferred to the nearby Academy of Art. While finishing his college education, he was recruited by Hallmark Cards and later became the apprentice of illustrator Mark English. Blackshear settled in Kansas City, where he became head illustrator at the prestigious Godbold/Richter Studio. A year later, he began a prosperous freelance career, illustrating many advertisements, several U.S. Postal Service stamp collections—one called "Black Heritage," another on classic movies, and a third on jazz musicians—and several series of Hamilton Group collector s plates featuring scenes from Star Wars, Star Trek, and The Wizard of Oz. Although he was successful, he was dissatisfied and decided to pursue a career in fine art. Blackshear has received many awards for his artwork, including the Society of Illustrators coveted Gold Medal. He was profiled on The Living Canvas, an art magazine of the airwaves that was shown on public television, and he has been featured on the Ebony/Jet Showcase and The 700 Club, and in The Saturday Evening Post. An exhibit of his original works for the Black Heritage stamp series premiered in 1992 at the Smithsonian s National Museum of American History and subsequently toured the United States. Browse and enjoy the great African American Art work from one of Today's most collected African American Artists, Thomas Blackshear..

Anna Sidi is commonly known to create digital paintings which feature the process of metamorphosis, allowing the viewer to break away from the traditional representation of various visual realities when creating the pieces of art. Her inspiration comes from the infinite, refreshing and everlasting water flow present in natural landscape. The artworks emphasize layers or texture as well as fluidity, creating a calming and relaxing effect and permitting the viewer to experience the painting's journey in their own way. Adam Lupton holds his Bachelors of Communication Design from Emily Carr University or Art and Design, having graduated in May 2010. As a Vancouverite, Lupton draws his interest from that which he has known his entire life: the vast austerity of the matrix through the city. Lupton’s broad and wide-ranging interests provides the root of his visually artistic ideation. Having a keen interest in sociology and psychology, he combines his passion for popular culture, typography, philosophy, science/religion, and society to form the basis of his descriptive works. Lupton’s gaze explores psychological and sociological struggles in modern society. Painting in oil, blurring lines between realism and expressionism helps Lupton probe the internal and external dialogue faced in his multi-directional narratives. His recent series, “What’s In Store for me in the Direction I Don’t Take?”, pits moments of choice against the visualization of their outcomes: temporal planes coexisting on a singular surface. With the notion of quantum mechanics having every possible outcome to a situation realized in splintered universes, he paints figures with varied levels of connection to reality. When every single direction exists in varying parallel lives, our process of free will as well as concepts of space, time, fate, and self come into question.

Plant-based soy “meat” cooked down in a rich and hearty tomato sauce with potatoes, carrots, and other vegetables. Kaldereta is traditionally cooked with goat meat (to make ‘kalderetang kambing’) and liver spread to get that textured sauce. Kaldereta but also come in different versions using beef, pork, and even chicken. This version is of course 100% vegan and instead of liver spread, I use a mix of peanut butter and miso paste for that extra kick of umami.

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!! I sure am happy it's Saturday..this was an exhausting, yet busy week! Today I'm linking up with Doodlebugs Teaching for her Five for Friday! We've been hard at work researching and taking notes for our big Endangered Species Research Project. The kids are SO Excited and get so upset as they are learning more about why these animals are critically endangered. If you're interested, you can find these note taking pages along with the booklet we plan to use to present our final project with in my TpT Store. We've also been working on linear measurements this week. Third graders are required to be able to measure object to the nearest one-fourth inch. We've been practicing a lot with worksheets and measuring things in the classroom…. BUT what better way to practice measurements than getting outside and having some fun?! I invited some 6th graders to come in and teach my class how to make paper airplanes. The kids were so excited and it was also a great way for them to practice their listening skills! We then headed out to fly our planes and measure the distance that it traveled! If you'd like to try these activities out with your students, you can click on the image below :) Be sure to follow me on Instagram or Facebook for more fun updates ;) Also got to take some time out for some fun this week! We got to meet up with some friends from Washington. They're visiting Hawaii so we met them for some Happy Hour :) She is a second grade teacher…our classes were pen pals last year! We're also continuing to work on poetry and figurative language. This is always a tough one but fun at the same time. So far, we've covered simile and metaphors, alliteration, idioms, and onomatopoeias. I'm kicking myself right now because as I'm scrolling through my photos I realized I only took pictures of our alliteration pages! Landan the Lizard lights a leaf Marry the monkey makes a monster with a magical science kit Emmeline the elephant loves to eat eggplants everyday. Ayven the alligator loves to eat apples any day he sees one. Jayde the jaguar got a job at the jungle's Jamba Juice. Pretty Pam made chicken pot pie with pickles and peas. We're also did a science experiment today. The kids were so excited learning about the scientific method. Thats my week in a nutshell! Hope you enjoy your weekend :) I'm off to finish some work I had started throughout the week…and hopefully get a new Facebook Fan Freebie posted for you all sometime this weekend ;)
