Durante un tiempo siguió dibujando Blueberry para Pilote, mientras ampliaba su campo de acción con publicaciones diversas, ya con su nuevo seudónimo, en Charlie Mensuel, en la Editorial Opta etc. En 1974 fundó el grupo Humanoides Asociados con otros autores como Phillippe Druillet, Jean-Pierre Dionnet y Bernard Farkas. Juntos editarían una revista mítica: Métal Hurlant. En ella Giraud publicaría múltiples relatos de ciencia-ficción y fantasía, algunos tan claves en su obra como la historia en cinco versiones de Arzach o The long Tomorrow.
