It was my first time alone in the studio with Keith. After a lon lunch with my family, he had to go prepare for an upcoming exhibition, and i just tagged along. He worked all afternoon, while i photog
Another brief excerpt from my forthcoming interview with Harry Ruhe: "From The Pop Shop in New York I have a fairly big bag completely filled with Keith Haring multiples. None of them are signed, but this bag, with at least thirty different multiples (radios, magnets, t-shirts, stickers, condoms) gives an idea as to how much Haring was interested in having his ideas and work distributed. Together, it makes a fantastic piece, and I like it much more than a single graphic by Haring. Some of those are fantastic, but then you just have one graphic and a signature. I prefer the bag."
Keith Haring was able to attract a wide audience and assure the accessibility and staying power of his imagery

Keith Haring art is dear to us at Vertu. Unlike early pop artists, Haring developed iconic figures and turned them into commercial art icons.

:) ENGLISH VERSION: I wanted to write this post on Sunday and I can just now! Yes, because I need to write about the documentary :The Universe of Keith Haring by Christina Clausen, distributed by Feltrinelli Real Music . It 's a 2007 documentary but I've only seen it on Saturday night, thanks to the Cinema at the MAXXI and now, I would like to see it again . Maybe because I 'm moved by everything, but this documentary is very special : it gets you into the artistic and private life of a boy, who with his passion for graffiti will grow up from subway walls to be called to draw on the walls of the big cities around the world, launching the simpler and stronger message that he could express : "that art is not an elitist activity reserved for the appreciation of a few, art is for everyone and I want to work for it. " Guys, Keith Haring was the most prolific of the entire twentieth century , if you asked him for a sign he made you a mural on the sheet of paper ... where each symbol is a message of love . There are his works everywhere, fortunately something in Italy: in Pisa there is super preserved the mural "Tuttomondo", a peace message, on the wall of the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate! In Rome, where we are very smarte..,there was a graffiti on the base of the Palace of Expositions, but it was canceled in 1992 to clean up the town for the usual political visits, and another one, 6 meters long on the stretch of the A line underground between Flaminio and Lepanto, when the train comes to the surface, on the transparent wall of the Ponte Pietro Nenni . What do you want treasure? Delete everything, isn'it!?! But that's another sad story . Now you just need to ... a good viewing! And you, what do you think ? :)
Keith Haring - adapted from the Deep Space Sparkle blog art lesson and The Keith Haring kids website by Pam Wilkinson Go over the Keith Haring biography http://www.haringkids.com/lessons/envs/live/htdocs/khbio.htm I added a few more facts. 1. Even at age 1 years old, Keith would draw with crayons. 2. Keith loved Walt Disney, Dr. Suess, and Charles Schultz's cartoons (especially Charlie Brown). 3. His subway drawings were done with chalk. He started with pyramids, flying saucers, human figures, winged figures, television sets, animals and babies. 4. Kieth would add rays all around with drawing figures. This became his signature. If possible, have the teacher go to the Keith Haring kids website, http://www.haringkids.com/master_k_life.htm and click on the art link to show some of his work (posters) and flipbooks (the kids loved this). Or go to http://www.keithharingart.com/ to print out some examples before the lesson or have the teacher show some work using their computer/overhead. You might also want to show the kids some picture of the artist http://www.haringkids.com/master_k_life.htm under the Keith link, snapshots/funny friends. Supplies- white paper and markers Using the example from Deep Space Sparkle blog, have the students create action figures drawing. Show them an example of creating the simple action figures. http://deepspacesparkle.blogspot.com/2008/04/keith-haring-rocks.html
