I definitely have some fountain pen mistakes and regrets but mostly interesting things that I've learned that I want to share with you.

Can you draw with a fountain pen? In a word, yes. As an artist, you can draw with anything you want to draw with. From crayons to pastels, to charcoal, to ballpoint pens, and yes, to fountain pens as well. While you can draw with just about anything, you were probably more interested in learning

While I've always been fascinated with fountain pens, I only got into the hobby in 2018. I know relatively little compared to longtime fountain pen collectors so I don't really call myself an expert. The things I write about here on Rediscover Analog are mostly based off the things that I've experienced and learned along the way. Luckily, I was able to team up with Emma from Invaluable so that she can share her knowledge of fine writing and fountain pens.

Featuring a special three-tined flex nib, the Triple Tail offers excellent line variation and a generous ink flow to keep up with the demands of flex nib calligraphy. It also features a handmade ebonite feed and a piston filling system that can be removed, letting you fill the entire barrel with ink. The pen can be completely disassembled by hand without any special tools, making it easy to clean and service as thoroughly as you want. Noodler's flex pens are ideal for fountain pen enthusiasts who enjoy tinkering with their pens. Don't be afraid to get ink on your fingers and adjust the nib and feed until you get the pen working just right for you. To enjoy the best experience possible, we recommend the following: Clean the pen thoroughly before using it for the first time. Use light pressure on your downstrokes to spread the tines of the nib and create line variation. Don't write too quickly when flexing the pen, or else the ink flow won't be able to keep up and the pen will stop writing. If the pen stops writing, let it sit for a few minutes so that the feed can recharge with ink. You can speed up the process by tapping the nib on a piece of scratch paper or using the piston mechanism to force more ink into the nib. If the pen's ink flow is too wet or dry for your taste, try adjusting how far the nib and feed are inserted into the grip section and how far back the nib is seated on the feed. The deeper the feed is inserted and the further back the nib is seated, the wetter the pen will tend to write. The Triple Tail is made with cotton butyrate resin, which has a much less noticeable odor than the vegetal resin used in other Noodler's pens like the Ahab and Konrad. Note: the insert shown in the photos no longer comes with the pen. We have included it here for your reference.

era tanto che progettavo questo argomento, ma mi è sempre mancato il tempo di strutturarlo bene.... quindi, dopo tanto tergiversare, ecco a voi... il FUOCO. Mi era stato chiesto da molto di farlo, ma il mio solito problema è che io, le cose, le faccio a sentimento, a occhio. non so come faccio, vado di prove e di solito ci azzecco, quindi la parte più complessa dei tutorial è sempre cercare di trovare un senso in quello che faccio e tradurlo in passaggi semplici: pertanto ho strutturato l'argomento in due fasi. In questo tutorial, studieremo la forma delle fiamme, ossia come disegnarle, gli strati di colore che le compongono e come queste reagiscono su fondo chiaro e fondo scuro. Il prossimo sarà più incentrato sulla magia, ossia come applicare le fiamme ad oggetti, fiamme in movimento, fiamme di diversi colori e i bagliori diffusi che generano sugli oggetti circostanti. Oggi mi avvalgo dell'aiuto di Horan, un mio personaggio originale, da Stone Motion! Il signorino qui, di fiamme se ne intende abbastanza, quindi sarà la mia adorata cav... *coff* il mio adorato assistente in questi due tutorial. allora... H: esattamente. A: capisco. Allora qui intervengo nello specificare che siamo abituati fin da bambini a vedere i fuochi stilizzati come grosse gocce rosse e arancioni frastagliate, (vedi sotto) quindi possiamo stabilire una forma generale a matita, leggera, prima, e poi segnare la direzione delle varie lingue. H: e poi si nota che le lingue sono separate, ma partono da un'unica base! quindi... Per un fattore estetico, soprattutto se il fuoco viene disegnato direttamente a copic, è importante che le linee NON SI INCROCINO MAI. far incrociare le lingue le fa sembrare sporche, pelose, e per niente fiammeggianti. se abbiamo dei punti di incontro o delle sovrapposizioni tra le linee di costruzione va bene, ma bisogna fare attenzione a ripassarle in modo da ottenere una sagoma unica e pulita. Piccolo appunto: una volta fatto qualche esercizio di solito si impara a disegnare le fiamme anche senza la costruzione, ma se le inchiostrate prima di colorarle e non vi sentite ancora sicuri, conviene farle a matita sotto. Tutto un altro paio di maniche è se invece volete una fiamma senza contorni, fatta direttamente a copic. in questo caso la matita non si può usare, perchè una volta che ci viene passato sopra il colore, l'alcol fissa la grafite al foglio e non si cancella più, lasciando tutti i segni grigi antiestetici sotto. In questo caso è meglio costruire le linee con un pastello colorato dello stesso tono, per esempio giallo o arancio leggero, in modo che non si intravvedano troppo. in alternativa, anche un copic molto molto chiaro può andare, come un YR30, o un Y00. H: *coff* ehi, riprendiamo? Perchè c'è poi da specificare che le fiamme piccine, come le candele, hanno una forma molto pulita e affusolata, mentre più la fiamma è grande, più il movimento dell'aria calda che sale le frastaglia, agitandola. A: ...l'avevo detto che se ne intendeva. <3 Questo per quanto riguarda la forma delle fiamme. la scelta di tracciare i contorni a matita, pastello colorato, a multiliner nero o colorato, o direttamente a copic è solo vostra e dipende dal tipo di disegno che fate e dal gusto per gli effetti particolari. Una cosa luminosa generalmente non ha contorni, ma un tipo di disegno molto semplice, per esempio, può stare bene con i bordi scuri. Un'immagine di stampo realistico o più curata nei dettagli della colorazione, invece rende meglio senza, con fuoco reso a colori direttamente. H: oh, è per questo che qui sotto, nel disegno di destra, la mia fiamma in certi punti è contornata col... coso... seppia? A: ...Multiliner, Horan. *sospira* Multiliner Sepia 1.0, per la precisione. H: ...Ecco, sì. Come dici tu. A: torniamo all'argomento, và... Per queste fiamme sono stati usati i seguenti copic: Y15 nella parte chiara, YR04 in quella più scura e un pò di Y38 per amalgamarli un pò. Ecco alcuni esempi tratti da manga shonen, (cioè per un pubblico maschile giovane) che sono quelli in cui le fiamme sono più semplici da trovare XD. Come vedete, alcune hanno forme curve e morbide, alcune quasi seghettate, alcune hanno i contorni, altre no. Ma i punti fondamentali ci sono tutti, e il modo in cui viene resa la consistenza della fiamma è solo una questione di gusto personale. Io, per esempio, le preferisco spigolose piuttosto che morbide e ondeggianti. Passiamo ai colori: Quante volte avete poeticamente sentito dire 'rosso fuoco'? ma il fuoco non è rosso. O almeno, in condizioni di luce normale, se notate i colori dominanti sono rosso, arancio, giallo e bianco. Rosso molto poco, a dire il vero. Questo colore è più facile trovarlo negli sfondi o nel bordo più esterno della fiamma,(nell'immagine sopra, il terzo esempio, delle Clamp) ma a farla da padrone sono giallo e arancio. Il bianco indica una forte luminosità e calore, come il magma, per intenderci. qui per esempio, il rosso è semplicemente il colore che collega l'arancio del magma al nero della roccia. come notate dagli esempi di autori famosi messi sopra, potete notare che sono ben distinguibili i tre strati di colore, col bianco al centro. Non è che ci sia una regola precisa, in fondo il manga tratta di stilizzazione, e il bianco al centro dà l'illusione di essere luminoso. C'è anche chi tiene il colore più scuro al centro, come si vede qui sotto. A: cos'è credevi di essere un personaggio originale, a infuocarti le mani? *lol* H: ... A: ti voglio bene lo stesso, tranquillo <3 Dopo aver demolito l'autostima di Horan, posso dire che la scelta dei colori è sempre personale, e io prediligo quelli brillanti e vivaci, quindi come colore luminoso un bel Y15, senza sfociare nei toni evidenziatore. Come tono intermedio un Y38, o comunque un arancio tendente al giallo, mentre per la parte scura un YR04, oppure un R22, che passato sopra all'arancio intermedio, lo scalda. Parto dal colore più scuro, R22, perchè mi dà la possibilità di delineare la forma delle fiamme, dato che non uso costruzione. Variando la pressione del pennello ottengo spessori disomogenei ed estremità appuntite tipiche della punta del Copic, che conferiscono alla fiamma la sua consistenza fluida e l'idea di un movimento costante. Passo Y38 su tutta la parte già ricoperta di R22, per poi sbordare verso il centro del fuoco con alcune pennellate appuntite, per riprendere il movimento ondulatorio. Ogni tanto faccio qualche piccolo trattino appuntito per non far sembrare il tutto una sagoma piatta, ma come se avesse dei punti più profondi di altri... come i buchi del formaggio o dei solchi nella pietra. l'importante è che ogni strato di colore tocchi solo il successivo, e non sconfini in un tono troppo più chiaro. faccio poi la stessa cosa con Y15, passandolo sopra aY38 e premendo in alcuni punti per scioglierlo e ottenere qualche piccola sfumatura. Per finire, come dettagli di finitura, qualche scintilla scoppiettante ottenuta con puntini bianchi di Molotow bianco e una sfumatura uniforme che ammorbidisce il contrasto tra Y15 e bianco. E' ottenuta con Y000, (ma anche Y00 bastava) tirata dal colore più intenso e pennellata verso il bianco sfumandola in quella direzione, ed ecco fatto! A questo punto avrei dovuto parlare di come i colori dello sfondo interagiscono con le fiamme per sovrapposizione, chiari e scuri, ma mi sono accorta che questo argomento è troppo legato alle luci e ai bagliori che genera il fuoco e che si riflettono sugli oggetti circostanti, che fa parte del secondo blocco, quindi mi ripropongo di trattarlo nella seconda parte del tutorial per una migliore comprensione!
