From world-renowned artist Giovanni Civardi, this highly practical guide uses the traditional grid technique to make the process of creating a characterful portrait drawing both simple and accessible. Starting from a photograph, Civardi shows you how to create an accurate pencil sketch of the subject by overlaying a grid and transferring the image one square at a time. The drawing is then rendered in easy stages to create a finished portrait.

Art has no language, however, it speaks to us on many levels. When it comes to defining the word, ‘art’ people come up with their own subjective definitions.
A ray of light illuminates the Savior as he takes upon himself the sins of the world and pleads for our salvation. To avoid too much struggle in the Saviors face, the artist transposed the conflict and suffering to the tree branches at the upper right. This breathtaking piece was one of the first Jorge Cocco painted in this new style we call "sacro-cubism". The artist did not try to copy objects as the eye sees them anymore, but rather as they "perceived" them. It is a more expressive process and it reveals a lot more about the artist himself. This is how the artist "feels" about a subject matter. But cubism focused more on materializing objects and situations, or objectificating people, whereas Jorge Cocco used some of the elements of "cubism" to represent spiritual and sacred events. In a way Cocco revolutionized the concept and how sacred art may be appreciated.
