Here is a sub lesson adapted from a handout in Ande Cook's Art Starters book called "A Fun Game." Basically, the artist is being asked to draw their interpretations of several different things. It's fun! It's a Fun Game! I wrote out all the directions and everything a sub would need to know to teach this lesson. I used this for grades 2nd grade and up. The Ande Cook handouts were part of a SchoolArts subscription, or you can get her book: Art Starters

Our next project is a fun Halloween project. You will use the worksheets as a guide as you roll a die to randomly select the parts of a monster to draw. After you draw your monster you will need to color it in full color. You can also add extra details and textures to make your monster unique. Monsters need to be drawn on the provided paper and fill the page. (No tiny monsters!) You will create two monsters for this project. DIRECTIONS: There are 4 different options below. Choose 1 worksheet per monster and complete all the requested rolls for your monster. Roll the die and draw the corresponding shape that matches the number you land on to create your monster. After you draw the monster parts you rolled, you may add extra touches and color to your monster to make it your own! Virtual Dice OPTION 1 OPTION 2 OPTION 3 AR Standards: CR1.5.1 P5.5.1 CN10.5.1
I don't like to use up much time in class explaining things. I just don't. I would rather a mad frenzy than a bunch of yawns. I find it tricky to gets kids warmed up to the art classroom at the beginning of the year. At the grand opening of the Painting Center this year, we began work on a 100 Color Challenge. My hope is that by working with a partner in this color exploration my students will discover new ways to create colors and use these in their paintings throughout the year. So far they are having a blast!

Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing prefixes and suffixes. It helps students see base words and adding prefixes/suffixes to them. The pug puppy helps my students see the separation of the base words with their prefix/suffix and they have so much fun with it! It will be approximately 32 x 24 inches, and will be a copy of my original. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)

I was inspired the other day. Typically I have sub plans that I always pull out for students to work on; one of my favorites is design a fantasy locker – something I can go into another time…
This was a sub lesson, and suprisingly, turned out fantastic! I left lots of image examples, and written directions for the sub and for each student. here is the lesson, including student handout and sample images, and some examples of student work finished and in progress. PERSONAL COAT OF ARMS: STUDENT DIRECTIONS… 1. Take your sheet of paper and on the back in the upper left corner, write your first and last name, class hour and date. 2. Choose a shield shape from the shield packet, and trace it neatly on the paper. 3. The Shield should be divided into 4 equal sections, to add these 4 components; some could come from the coat of arms packet: a. A symbol/ picture to represent an important place to you. b. A symbol/ picture to represent a hobby or activity important to you. c. An animal that represents you. d. Any other symbol or picture that represents you. 4. Above the shield, add a personal motto (word or phrase that represents you). Put this in a banner. 5. You need to add your name on a banner below. 6. Color the design with bright colors. TRY YOUR BEST; YOU ARE BEING GRADED ON THE QUALITY OF THE DRAWING AND HOW WELL IT IS COLORED. We have printed a family crest/coat of arms for a future project. That is not to be used. Instead, students are creating an original design. They can use the packet for inspiration. Give each student a copy of the “Student directions” packet. It includes a template of a coat of arms. Give each a blank paper from off my desk (9x12). Make sure they put their names and info on the back. They are to trace a shield, and follow the directions to complete a design. You should show them the partially completed example clipped to this sheet. They are to color the designs they create with colored pencils and markers from their desks. Ask them to take a set, use a set, return them as a set. Try to keep them seated as much as possible, this helps with classroom discipline. Let them know they are being graded on quality, and getting all requirements. Poor quality drawings, poor coloring, will result in poor grade. Take your time, do a good job, get a better grade. Grading Rubric: 4 main components: 30 points Name and Motto: 10 points Coloring: 30points Craftsmanship: 30 points Total 100 points
