New York based artist Hope Gangloff paints expressive and visually striking portraits with emotional depth. First covered here, her portraits primarily depict family, friends and other artists in intimate, vaguely erotic and melancholy scenes. Gangloff has described her paintings as caricatures- rather than capturing her subjects' likeness, she focuses on their details separately and intensely, and exaggerates their features like hands and feet.

Seth Haverkamp has been drawing since forever. Even in his early school days Seth turned upon his desire to draw. One instance of note was a 5th grade science fair in which Seth turned in detailed drawings of hawks instead of a more typical (and acceptable) project.

Originally from Wrzburg, Bavaria, artist Joshua Bronaugh paints deeply emotive portraits that make you feel as though you're watching memories slip away.
Based in Oshawa, a suburb of Toronto, artist Toni Hamel (previously) is concerned with human morality—or lack thereof. In her subtly hued artworks, Hamel portrays subjects in the midst of futile and trivial pursuits: children pluck stars from the night sky, a couple attempts to reconstruct a flower after its petals have fallen, and a young family literally watches wet paint dry. Many of the satirical pieces consider socially accepted anthropocentrism and the relationship people have with the surrounding environment. More
Born in Tempe-Arizona, Johanna Harmon remembers being passionate about drawing from as early as seven years old. Unsure of how to apply her vast natural talent in her adult life, she went to work at a design and fabrication firm. In her mid-twenties she began taking numerous classes at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and would also attend workshops at the Denver Art Students League and the Fechin Art Institute in Taos.

Currently living in Colombia, John Barrios (previously covered here) portrays a surreal world rich with color and detail in his oil paintings. He strips down this world in his haunting black and white mixed media drawings. Barrios' drawings, a combination of Graph Gear 500 mechanical pencil and watercolor, look similar to the under layers of his painted works. Their soft shading and light values reflect on his fascination with the subtleties of light. See more after the jump.

My paintings are of the human form, the soft tenderness that it can transfer to the viewer; never the anger of the world but the peace and harmony that humans are capable of. I have been influenced by living in Belgium and painters of the Benelux countries and I try to show the placid side of the subject using light, the reflection of light and the shadows to emphasise the subjects form and curves. I never use colour but the subtleness of tone to achieve these effects. I try to achieve the smoothness of skin and the body so no brush strokes are visible to the viewer. I have developed this technique for painting the human body and have works in many collections.” Michael LUKASIEWICZ was born in Poland but has been living and working in Antwerp for over 15 years.

Artist Hope Gangloff captures the personalities of her friends and family in brightly colored large-scale portraits. Gangloff’s acrylic and collage paintings show her subjects in intimate settings—often domestic interiors—in poses of relaxation or quiet focus. The artist’s strong but gestural lines create defined shapes that are filled with repetitive marks and bright patterns. Gangloff gives equal textural attention to all areas of the painting, which draws the viewer’s eye to every detail and also contextualizes each portrait sitter in a unique set of surroundings. More
Milt Kobayashi is a sophisticated painter who demonstrates a consummate mastery of design and unsentimental curiosity about people. The fertile cross-currents of two great cultures have nurtured his art to a harmonious resolve of Western technique with Oriental color, pattern and spatial composition.
Admittedly, it may be a bit premature to label Bernard Dunstan as a “forgotten” artist as he is still alive and active. Nevertheless, this fine painter is certainly no household name. Indeed, I would have never come upon his work had I not been scouring the site devoted to the British Royal Academicians. Bernard Dunstan was born in Teddington, Middlesex, in 1920. He studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Dunstan taught at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, the Camberwell School of Art, the Byam Shaw School from 1953 to 1974, the Ravensbourne Art College, and the City Guilds of London Art School. In 1968 he was made a full member of the Royal Academy and is currently the longest serving Royal Academician. Dunstan’s paintings can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Collection, Windsor, and the Museum of London. Dunstan is known for his paintings of landscapes and interiors with figures… often nude. His work clearly continues in the tradition of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Among the several books Dunstan has penned is one entitled, Painting Methods of the Impressionists. His work is deeply indebted to the paintings of English artists Walter Sickert and Philip Wilson Steer, the Impressionists, and the “intimiste” tradition of French painting exemplified by the work of Degas, Renoir, Vuillard, Bonnard, and to an extent, Matisse. His paintings frequently focus upon the domestic interiors… the private, personal, and erotic lives of his subjects.
