This is a very useful sheet for all GCSE students. It's a writing frame that should help you to structure the annotations you make in your sketchbooks. It's very important to explain each piece of artwork in your book with a small amount of writing, but it's easy to write the wrong things, and hard to use the right artistic language. Following the five headings and using the phrases on this sheet will make your annotations better, and help you gain marks. You can access the sheet online by clicking here. I hope you find it helpful!

With the invent of GPS technology and map applications, paper maps are waning in use - but they are an essential material to English artist Ed Fairburn, who uses them as the canvas of his detailed portraits. Fairburn's work is an imaginative incorporation of the human form and topography. He's used maps of places from all over the world. The winding layouts of streets and rivers are enhanced to form wrinkles, veins, and other features of his subjects' faces.
Italian artist Marco Mazzoni has used colored pencils in his work since he was very young. Although some abandon the medium as they get older, Mazzoni continued to hone his pencil technique into something truly spectacular. He fuses colors into smooth, silky blends that resemble oil paintings. Although Mazzoni depicts elements of beauty, his work...

In these works, hands and fingers are the protagonists — they have the power to make us squirm with discomfort and insecurity or long for a gentle caress. Thayer and Van Patten's compositions zoom in on various details of the body, presenting a form of intimacy that can be sensual and unsettling at the same time. Take a look at some of their artworks after the jump.

Richard Estes (1932) is an American painter. He studied Fine arts at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. He is one of the many photo-realist/ hyper-realist painters that emerged in the 1960s. He is actually considered to be one of the founders of the movement with which I came across when studying American Art. His meticulous paintings are a depiction of American popular culture; consisting usually of store fronts, the city itself and the landscape. He always chooses daytime settings with crisp images very clean so as not to deter the attention from the main focus. The vividness of his work feasts the eye and I feel that the polished background looks so peaceful. Hope the vibe gets you, too.
