Die 8 fertigen Türme sind 120 m hoch und es werden insgesamt 14 Türme gebaut....die 12 Aposteltürme, der Marienturm und der Jesusturm. Der Jesusturm wird mit 170 m der höchste. Der Bau wurde in den 30er Jahren wegen des Bürgerkrieges unterbrochen und wurde erst 1965 wieder begonnen. Der erste Turm war 1926 fertig und kurz danach kam der Architekt und Schöpfer dieser Kirche, Antonio Gaudi, ums Leben, er wurde von einer Strassenbahn erfasst und überfahren.
