These naive folk-art Christmas decorations are of 600gsm smooth ivory uncoated duplexed card, printed on both sides in hand-mixed colours. Supplied as a sheet 297 x 420 mm, the decorations can be popped out from the sheet and strung with the thread, ribbon, yarn or string of your choice. Can be hung singly or strung as a garland. Like all their paper products, these decorations are designed, printed, cut and packaged in England with the minimum environmental impact on FSC-certified stock in ink that is friendly to the environment. We were immediately drawn to this characterful little portrait, something about the girls moody look endeared her to us. She doesn't look best pleased about having to sit for the artist, she probably would prefer to be out playing with her friends. This wonderful watercolour on paper was painted in England Circa 1840. The watercolour is on paper and features a full length portrait of a young girl. The girl can be seen wearing a white dress with a blue ribbon detailing. We love how the artist has painted the curls in her hair! The painting is housed behind glass old glass in its original moulded composition frame with rococo style detailing. This is a fabulous portrait painting in a decorative frame with a great naive/folk art look. Measuring: Frame width 8 ½ inch (22 cm) by height 10 ½ inch (26.5 cm). Aperture width 6 inch (15 cm) by height 7 7/8 inch (20 cm). Condition: Age darkening to the paper, and fading to the watercolor, particularly seen to her dress. . About The Artwork Working days are long in Tokyo. One need to end it with panache! Homemade silk screen on Japanese paper "shinbafun". 2019. Limited edition: 10. Numbered, dated, signed and stamped (seal). The original art is drawn by hand with ink on a fine paper that is later oiled to create the stencil. The screen is burnt under the natural light of the sun. The printing occurs one time only with a very limited number of prints (5 to 20). The original hand drawing is then destroyed. Bruno uses Japanese "washi" or "shinbafun" paper. All the prints have their own micro differences that make them unique. Super cute vintage style beetle reverse glass painting from India. This little picture has been hand painted on glass in a naive folk art style with lots of rustic charm. The technique – Verre Eglomise in Europe – is incredibly ancient and was hugely popular in India in the mid 19th century. Traditionally the subjects were portraits of wealthy noble men and women or religious scenes often highlighted with gold leaf. Each one is individually interpreted by incredibly skilled artisans painting directly onto the reverse of the glass which gives a wonderful vibrancy. The frame has been made from recycled antique wood and is a little uneven, damaged and marked. It has two small brass eye hooks and string on the reverse for hanging. Looks fantastic hanging as part of a gallery wall with similar pictures or hanging alone in a boho style interior. These naive folk style decorations are printed on thick 600gsm paper and are printed on both sides. There are 18 decorations on two sheets and they can be pushed out of the flat packed card sheet and then threaded with the string or twine of your choice and either hung individually or in a garland. The decorations are printed in two slightly different tones on each side - one is an orangey red and the other is more pink. This is a folk art landscape project using oil pastels and black ink. I have a soft spot for folk art landscapes; I find they are so charming and sweet and full of happiness and joy. Many 'folk' or 'naïve' artists were/are untrained and completely free in how they paint. Having gone to art school for four years, I was trained to do extensive rough sketches, thumbnails, practice, practice- get the perspective right, mix colours, blend, etc, etc, etc. So may rules and techniques- so now when I go to do my own art, I have all that 'information' in the back of my mind and it feels like I can't be completely free and uninhibited.... Anyway.... before this project, show students images from any folk artist you like- I chose the Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis. She's one of my favourite artists and I only chanced upon her work when I visited the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, in Halifax. I was in love. The gallery houses not only some of her paintings, but her famous tiny (one room) little painted house she lived in. Maud was crippled by childhood arthritis and lived in poverty most of her life, selling her paintings, at most, for between $5 - $15. Like many folk artists, she had never taken an art class and was self-taught. Watch as a woman buys her famous 3 black cats painting for $5!!!! So for this project, students first drew a simple landscape onto white construction paper (9 x 12"). They were encouraged to include a background, middle ground and foreground. The landscapes could be fanciful and imaginative- stylized tree, plants, buildings, etc. or more 'realistic'. Whatever worked for the students. I had on hand lots of illustrated children's books with landscape pictures and calendar landscape photos for students to refer to as well. Then, pass over all the pencil lines with a thick line of chalk. Use a light colour, like an off-white if possible. We only had yellow, and it tended to stain some of the white colours later on... The, colour the picture with a thick layer of oil pastels. Don't colour over the chalk lines. I encouraged students to colour in one direction and mix shades together. Then, using a damp sponge, wipe off all the chalk lines. The paper will probably warp a bit but no worries. Finally, using black watercolours or black ink (or even tempera watered down to an ink-like consistency), pass over all the black white lines with a soft round brush. If the pictures curl or warp, just flatten them overnight with a stack of heavy books. Grade 3/4 artwork- ta da!! Teacher sample below.... Detail
