Let's say you're flipping through a medieval Christian prayer book (as you do), and suddenly you come across a curious illustration amongst the prayers and psalms of something that looks unmistakably like female genitalia. A scolding voice in your head tells you to get your mind out of the gutter. B
Museums can be awesome. But let's face it, some of them can also be pretty dull. Which is why it's not surprising that some people get a little bored of them. After all, how many busts do you need to see (no jokes) before they all start to look the same? And frescoes are all well and good, but you can only see so many of them before neck cramp starts to set in.
This post is in response to a question I received about how to recover from religious wounding in Christianity, as I know many struggle with this.

The Original "Our Lady of Częstochowa -- Black Madonna" One of the great icons of Christendom, the Black Madonna of Częstochowa has been associated with many miracles and has survived for centuries. Originally a Byzantine icon from the early Middle Ages, (some even say painted by St. Luke), it was brought to Poland in the 14th Century. There it has been revered as the Queen and Protector of Poland. (For those unfamiliar with the Catholic faith, this is a title of Mary in Heaven for a role she plays, not the painting itself.) The scars on her cheek are purportedly the desecrations of a Hussite soldier’s sword. The legend is she is black because of smoke. There are many, many variations of Our Lady of Czestochowa, but this is the original. In Byzantium, this type of icon was known as "Hodegetria,”or "One Who Shows the Way." The Way is her Son. (source: Wikipedia) Add 2 prints of Madonna of Paczółtowice or Polish Saints St. Faustina, St. Maximilian Kolbe, or St. John Paul II for free shipping! ** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt. – Acid-free paper – Archival pigments, rated to last for generations. – Cardboard backer – Above story of the art – Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
